  1. We had been planning to replace our old desktop with a laptop that the kids could share to do homework, etc. It would be so much easier and portable and pretty much does everything the desktop did.....and our laptops are newer and faster. I had considered getting my son an ereader or ereader/tablet since he reads on his ipod so much and the screen is so small. Now after reading so much about tablets, I'm wishing i could afford a decent tablet. We can't really swing both and have both a decent laptop AND tablet. My question now is......how close are tablets to laptops now as far as function? I know that tablets don't have cdrom drives but we really don't need them often except to load new programs initially. I assume thumb drives could be used with tablets but I just don't know enough. I have been thinking of tablets more as big phones not smaller laptops. I'm not sure if that is an accurate description, though. Would my kids be able to do their homework on a tablet? maybe one of the 10" tablets? They mostly surf for information and photos for projects, use word for papers and use the computer for online textbooks. And could they print from the tablet with a wifi printer? Just wondering which is the better choice for a 15 yo and 12 yo mainly for homework but also some online gaming....and maybe facebook at some point. Also, is anyone familiar with the Lenovo® IdeaPad Tablet K1, 32GB that Office Depot has? it sounds similar to the Xoom to me as well as I think the Asus but I'm not sure. Thanks for your input.
  2. I just bought my dd12 a nice pair of boots with the sale price ( more than 50% off) for $15 plus free shipping to my home. Too bad the shopping passes were not good on footwear. You should be able to use the passes in addition to the deals that are special for the 6-9 time frame except on excluded items.
  3. if you cannot swing the 32g the 8g really can be an option. My dd12 has had hers a year and has not filled it up. She loves it. You can load movies then delete once they have watched them. You don't HAVE to keep everything stored on them. You can save apps and songs in itunes and delete and redownload whenever you want to. There are some good deals on the 8g for BF....and make sure to watch Amazon's BF sales because I got dd's ipod last year when it was just out for a very good price plus no tax or shipping. Look for the 32 but don't feel bad if you can only swing the 8g.
  4. Is anyone familiar with any of the NextBooks? My friend just told me she loves hers but I have never heard of them and I see there are several versions at varying prices. Just wondering how well they work in comarison to other readers and tablets discussed. I'm looking for teens and need to stay under $150...actually the less $ the better but I don't want something that doesn't work. Thanks.
  5. I agree with this. I just posted something similar. However, ipod touches break when dropped. Not sure about ereaders durability. Make sure you get a great protective case and still he needs to be careful.
  6. I'm just a parent, not and expert of any kind, and I'm not an Apple groupie. However, both my 15 yo son and my 12 yo daughter love their ipod touches! It is their prize posessions. There are many many games and apps, not just a few. They have access to the full itunes selection of games and useful apps. They have free texting apps to text all of their friends who have smartphones or touches. Some apps even allow you to make calls while on wifi. I think the thing my kids love, too, is that it goes anywhere they go in their backpocket! So there are many positives to the touch especially if all theeir friends have Apple products...iphones, etc. Just my thought from my kids perspective. I have an Android phone I love..not an iphone...but they get the cool apps first...the ones all their friends have.
  7. I've been reading all the posts and think it is very exciting all the new advances. I am trying to figure out a good gift for my 15 y/o son. He has an ipod touch 3rd gen that he uses on wifi for email, games, music and he reads on it all the time. So far he only reads free books from different apps including the Kindle app. I think the fact that it is backlit works better for him then the e-ink would since he reads at night. I think the ipod touch is awfully small to be a reader but then I'm 44 and it IS small for me. I'm just wondering if getting a Kindle Fire or Nook Color is going to be redundant since the ipod touch already does a lot. Or would it be so much nicer to have a bigger screen that he would appreciate it. I'm just not sure. I'm not springing for an iPad. We don't have that kind of budget. if we got the Nook or Fire, it would his main gift. So trying to make sure it would be a good gift. We are hoping to replace our desk top with a lap top that both kids can use, so he can do homework, etc. on the lap top, too. Any thoughts?
  8. My daughter wanted the same one and there are none in OK City Metor area. Some of our Justice stores did not even get any, the ones that did sold out immediately and they are not online. Made me mad. I have seen the same thing but with black feet instead of pink at all of our malls for about $20 at kiosks. That isn't what she wanted, though, so she won't be getting one it doesn't look like. She is 11, though, and hopefully will understand. I got her a white soft puppy about the same size with pink belly from Justice. it is not a Pillow Pet but about the same size and very soft. Good luck. I hope you have better luck than we have.
  9. yes. He cannot have a camera at school. Otherwise, he can use to help organizeand as a reminder.
  10. Best Buy had a great deal on them last week but I did not act quickly enough. Now I cannot find one except used off Craigs List or eBay. Does anybody know where i can get a new one? Ds 14 will use it for school. I already got one of the new ones on sale for little sister ( shhh) but can't give to her if we don't find him one. He cannot have the camera ipod at school. Thanks,
  11. Well, I thought my hubby and I were both going to target by 2 am. however, he wouldn't wake up so I left late and alone. There seemed to be 1000s of folks in line already at 3 when I got there but I stuck around. We have a huge Target and we were wrapped completely aoround the outside of the building and it was 25 degrees. lol However, our Target did hand out tickets for all teh tvs. All that was left for us was a 46" tv which was not on my list. I must say they did an excellent job at crowd control outside and we got in quickly and with buggies if needed once the doors opened. Only problem was knowing where to find things. I knew I would not get an ipod there so I grabbed my Dyson vacuum first. Looked for the iTune cards but they had put them behind counter in electronics so you had to go through that line. However the other items I needed were in a pharmacy line. So..not itunes cards there, but I did wait in teh pharmacy line for about an hour and got the Tom Tom xl 350 gps with lifetime maps and teh 1 TB element external hardrvie for hubby for $79 and $ 69 respectively plus I got two $10 gift cards. Not too bad. Bought a couple of things at Academy Sports at 5;30...no lines. Then to the mall by 6;15. Stopped at Aeropostale where I got a pair of jeans for my son for less than $20 ( that fit him!! woohoo!) and 2 nice zip hoodies for about $20 each. JcPenny lines were too long so skipped. Bought daugher a pair of dress shoes at Justice. Not a great sale but they had her size and were about $15 and....she likes them! Got a few other things at the mall but nothing major. Tired. Went home, ate and got hubby. Out to the Air force exchange where we found very little. We missed getting a scratch card so hubby will stop before work at 6 am tomorrow to get a card. We hope to get video games there. No good deals really so far on what my kids want. Left Kohls becasue I found very little and lines were outrageous. One game at Bust Buy. Thursday I did some online shopping. Got some really good deals for son at AE Outfitters. Had been waiting for a decent sale for a while. 4 nice long sleeve pullover shirts, 2 pairs of jeans, and 2 hoodies for daughter shipped and tax for about $130. Today,Ordered the $50 iTunes card for $40 with free shipping to my home from Best Buy! Best deal by far: Amazon--ipod touch 4th gen 8gb AND a $25 Amazon gift card for $199 out the door ( so to speak). No tax or shipping so....really $174 for the ipod touch and no waiting in line for it! Tires and ready to sleep! :-)
  12. I got the DC 17 at target this morning. My hubby did not want the ball and this one seemes to suit. I guess time will tell. Thanks for the info.
  13. Just ordered....FINALLY! Got two pairs of jeans for my son from 77 Kids ( he is still too small at 14 for AE jeans but 77kids look like AE), 5 shirts for him from AE and 2 hoodies from 77 for my daughter for $130 out the door. Not too bad! He really needed clothes and it is cold here today so not a min too soon. The 25% code worked fine on everything.
  14. So sad....I was hoping there would be no tax or shipping, but I have to pay both.
  15. I have been trying for several hours to order some things off of 77 kids and AE with no luck. Still getting the "come back later message". I almost got to order earlier. Got all teh way to clicking to finalize and it quit working. Sigh.....
  16. We used go phones for several years. They worked better for us then tracfone. I saw an LG Prime touch phone for $59 at Bestbuy on BF that I am thinking of getting for my 14 yr old. You can also put them on your plan if you decide to use a regular cell phone plan with ATT at some point.
  17. Thanks. I did see today that it is in the TArget ad. I would also love to get online but I will go out if i have to. We are going out just wasn't shopping for the vacuum.
  18. We are considering getting my 14 yr old son a 3rd gen touch so he can use it to organize at school. My biggest concern is that he doesn't empty his pockets or remember to charge our third phone when he uses it. Two phones have been washed. I think he is going to sell his dsi and some games to pay for part of a 32gb 3rd gen touch. We will probably get it from Best Buy. i hope since he will be paying for half, he will value it more and take care of it. He is very ADD, though, and it is tough. However, he is in HS now and needs to take responsibility to organize himself. He still does not have a cell phone. I have lots of issues with the way I have seen kids use phones so for now, we have a third phone on our plan called, " the kids' phone". ( My daughter is 11) They can take it to golf or dance or use it in the mall if they are not with us but they are not allowed to give out their numbers to all their friends or call anyone we have not pre-authorized. I ck their phone and view calls on our bill. It works for us for now. I anticipate getting him a phone at 16 when he starts driving but I am not at all sure it will have texting. My husband has been hit twice this year by kids texting while driving. I just want it so he can call if he runs out of gas or breaks down. I guess I'm old-fashioned but.... Of course, my daughter wants an ipod, too. She would probably take bettercare of it. Worst thing would be that it might get lost in her room. I don't really like them having unsupervised internet but she has done well with internet priveleges so far. They are just so expensive. Not sure if she will get one this year. Good luck with your decisions!
  19. I am looking for a bargain on a Dyson vacuum cleaner. I don't think I want a refurbished one. We do have pets but a pet vacuum is not a must. What is the best deal you have seen. Thanks.
  20. I am also wondering if Academy Sports will have a BF ad. I am looking for golf stuff mainly. Anybody know. I got a sales ad today but it didn't seem like a BF ad and i found no dates.
  21. I was referring to the 8g refurb ipod touch. They were out when I posted but I saw some today.
  22. Does anyone know if there will be anything other than the 40% off on BF?
  23. I don't see it on their website anymore. Did you buy them all?
