Perimeter Perusing at Target (Target Clearance Deals) - 2009
lovetoshopCA replied to Brad's topic in Offline Hot Deals
The Thomas toys that were clearance went 75% yesterday. I was pretty sure they would, so I just moved what I wanted to another shelf in the department, and they were still there when I returned. Also, forgot to mention that there was an entire box of Hot Wheels Valentines in a go-backs cart in the aisle next to Vday stuff. I dumped it straight into my cart. I cut the tops off and just leave the car for bday goodie bags. -

They've already put bulk items in again here. The Home Design Event will probably go to more patio/summer stuff. -

Found quite a few of the Color Wonder mini sets for $1.49 in the regular aisles. Of course I put quite a few of them there before leaving for vacation on the 13th, but they were still there today! Lots of Color Explosion too, but I don't like them. The Color Wonder sets are $1.24, by the way. Found a few pink Domos and a single Kelly doll. Also found 2 of the Hello Kitty Pez sets. -

They won't take them if they are much out of date. At least that is the case here. I bought the Teddy Grahams and had the same problem. The Oreos stopped going for awhile, but DS came back to them recently. But I am stuck with the TGs. -

Yeah, they have had a lot less in general, but I got lucky this year and one store had quite a bit that they put out after the first day of clearance, so I got plenty. The candy can last a little too long...Last year for New Year's Eve I cleaned out all the assorted candy and snacks and hauled it down the street to our neighbors whose kids & relatives were camping out for the Rose Parade. We used to live 1/2 block from the route, so they would camp out every year and give us seats in the morning. Figured the least I could do was provide some fuel for their night. The junk food was all gone by morning. :) -

Maybe you'll be lucky and it'll be there tomorrow. I had a hectic day and didn't get down to check the quilts and stuff. I just ran in and checked the Global Bazaar because I knew there were sheets I wanted. The markdown team was done for the day at 1:30 because they were checking out with me! -

Are you serious!?!? :eyepoppin That is so funny! I am using Halloween & Christmas napkins interchangeably right now. Whichever happen to come up from the basement when we run out. I use Christmas or Halloween Ziplocs & plastic containers year round. I have been using Christmas Glad trash bags in my bathrooms for 2 years now with all the small boxes I got 2 years ago at 90% off. I could not possibly care less as it all ends up in the trash anyway. :g_shrug: -

bummer. ours was still 50% off this afternoon at 1:30, and both boys have no school tomorrow, so it will be hard to go. Ugh! I just want some of the sheets. -

Had to get at it through the main listing of the set, then clicking on the size. Here is that link so you can figure it out for future reference. http://www.target.com/Simply-Shabby-Chic-Fairytale-Collection/dp/B000LAVJYK/sr=1-4/qid=1234471229/ref=sr_1_4/178-9642111-3670422?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k%3Ashabby%20chic%20fairytale&page=1 Twin: DPCI: 097-02-0474 Full/Queen: DPCI: 097-02-0475 -

CHeck the target.com website to see if it is there. The DPCI can be found under the Additional Information tab if it is. -

Just in time is terrable for us!!! This means they order product from their distributers as they need it. They will not be stocking or over buying. My company started this several years ago to cut down on inventory, even when the economy was good. Once this starts it will not stop. Yep, but I don't think they did it for all departments. We were specifically talking about the candles & candle holders that day. They certainly haven't done it in all departments, and not all manufacturers (stores the size of Target tend to buy direct from the manufacturer rather than middle-men) are set up for it, so it won't be throughout the whole store. They have had this in place for stuff like bread and soda for some time, basically those are stocked by jobbers from the manufacturers already. Some stuff doesn't lend itself to JIT, though.... -

Yup. I have to agree. Seems like in some ways they are doing a better job ordering (from the business perspective) because they are selling out before having to overly discount it. In the long run, that is good for the business, and while it is painful for us bargain shoppers, it will ensure the long-term health of the company. And that means that when the economy turns around and they start over-ordering again, then it will be good for us. At least let's hope so. However, I was talking to one of the guys I know at the store who shoots outs for them, and he was saying they've switched to a "Just in Time" system recently, so there is a lot less back stock. And that is not good for us... -

Nope, not a chance. They take advantage of the last minute people who need a gift. I've never seen it drop before Vday. It is such a bummer that I'm traveling this year for the after Vday sale!! I am not going to get to go at all. Ugh. I am going to be in Manhattan and without a vehicle, not that I'd know where the Targets are in the NYC area anyway... -

No, it works. It works to get something that is full price at one store and 75% off at another. However, you run the risk of an employee taking it. If you do it, you will want to buy a few of the item you want and either return it to a store you know does restocking very, very quickly, and you have time to hang around a bit. Or do it at close to closing, and come back in the morning hoping it was restocked overnight. I agree with atn1275 that it has to be worth the driving. Here I have half a dozen stores within spitting distance and another 10 or so with a little drive. Not everyone does. But you can easily avoid the problem of the 50% off buyer by simply waiting till it goes down and returning more than one. I did this recently. The only problem I had was that not everything came out to the floor right away so I had to watch for it. -

If it is on a shelf with a sign in front of it, legally, they are required to sell it to you for that price here. I'm in LA. If there is only one, then it is even more of a case that they should do so. That does not mean that you will win, but if you get a good manager, they'll honor it. That is why I always grab an employee to witness it. It is also why it is good to get to know who the store manager is. I had this argument at Christmas with another manager because an item was misplaced and the shelf tag it was with was even similar in name. There were 3 of them there. It was the Eyeclops Night Vision Goggles, $69 at the time, and stocked at a spot that said something like Spy Goggles and $14.99. I pushed, but the manager refused, so I called the county Weights & Measures office. They did an undercover sting, but it had already been fixed. 2 days later I approached the store manager and told him the story and that if that was the way they wanted to run things, I'd simply start calling Weights & Measures first. The manager said, "no, no, we don't need to do that." And I ended up getting the toy for the $14.99 price. He introduced me to his assistant manager and told me to call him anytime I needed assistance. They make a point of asking me about pricing now. They know I shop there 5-6 days a week, and that I spend a fortune there for both regular & clearance merchandise. So, it pays to argue and to develop relationships with the employees. -

See, now the way I do it is first to make sure it isn't just an oddball that a customer might have moved. If it is, then it is unreasonable to expect to get the extra discount. Then I grab an employee and say, "you see this? It is clearly sitting here under a 75% off sign. You see it sitting there?" Then I get their name and haul it up front and argue at the register and have them call employee 1 on the walkie talkie to confirm it. That's my method. -

No on both counts, I would think. I don't know about everywhere, but here the linens just went 50% last week, so they should not drop again until next week. -

The home design event is completely isolated from the standard bedding stuff. It is a section over near the garden furniture in most stores. -

Probably. I used the Wet Ones coupons on the travel size packs yesterday and they weren't supposed to be used for them. I'm traveling to NY Saturday, and I want wipes for the plane. I have never been a germ phobe, but I have been so sick this fall (despite my flu shot, I just haven't had the flu!), and they don't clean the planes anymore. I want wipes to wipe down everything! My girlfriend's husband got an infection in his elbow from the arm rest last summer and ended up needing surgery for it!! FYI, a LOT of the trial size stuff is clearance. I noticed it yesterday when I was cruising for trip items. -

If you return it, be sure to check back within a day. If they salvaged it, which means they sent it to a salvage company that will unload it. They do sometimes sell directly to Salvation Army, Goodwill or other smaller charitable organizations who buy salvage merchandise to resell in their thrift stores, but a lot of it goes to salvage houses that sell it in large auctions and on sites like http://www.liquidation.com Anyway, check back because items that have been salvaged often go back to the sales floor anyway and ring up Not of File or Item not Found. If you get a young, inexperienced cashier (usually male), they will probably ask you if you know the price, and you can tell them.... -

Since they are not treating it like seasonal merchandise, I have serious doubts about it going 90% this year. I sure wouldn't count on it. It isn't likely to go 75% until at least next week since they advertised it 50% off in this week's flyer. Which is a bummer since I wanted to get some sheets and will be in New York the first half of next week when they'll probably drop it. -

It is one of those things that they probably won't cooperate with you on. But if you had done it immediately you might have gotten somewhere. On the other hand, if you are going to ask, I'd first try to get the store manager, and make sure it isn't just the manager on duty. I'd also make it clear that Target has become famous for it's video surveillance on all these news programs and their write-up last year in Fortune magazine. In other words, if you are going to raise a stink, try to think it through and do it right. Get the main guy who can make that kind of decision, and let them know that you know how they work. Also, try to find out what the weights & measures law is in your county. There will likely be a sticker at every register with the county phone number on it regarding reporting scanner overcharges. Call them and ask. Or go online and find out. -

The 30% signs say "and up" most of the time. If they see it on the 75% off shelf, they will generally honor it. They are legally supposed to in most areas. I just got some pink Domos from the Valentines section yesterday because they had it in a $1.99 spot. For future reference, I always grab an employee to witness it and confirm it if I know the price is going to vary from the shelf and there is only one. In this case I might have told them to check the security footage. They might not do it, but they might. They are easily able to do it for checkout to see if a cashier gave you all your items or your cash back, and they have them set for all the expensive items, so you might have had some luck. I'd certainly have asked for the store manager. Speaking of store managers, Targets are especially hard to pin down to figure out who the overall store manager is. But if you can do that, it is particularly helpful. If you ask the cashier's or someone you have gotten to know a bit in the store, you can usually get the manager's first name and eventually have someone point them out. Then, if you have a problem down the road, you can ask for them by name. They aren't always in the store, but I have found that I get what I want more often with the store manager than just a front end manager. They claim to all have equal authority, but it is clearly untrue. -
