  1. To add to this, I went to my local Chick-fil-a and asked if you could use the card right away. They said "sure, no problem". So instead of just paying for my food (family of four comes to about $19) I bought a card, got a free calendar and then used the card to pay for my food!
  2. I did just that the night before! I was buying a tea jug that was on clearance. It rang up at $4.99 which I knew was the wrong price. But I was not sure what the right one was, just that it was something less than $4.99. So I checked out, went back and checked the price ($4.01) went to the service desk and... FREE tea jug!
  3. Okay so last week Kroger had a deal where you buy four boxes of cereal you get $4 off. Most of the boxes were priced (before $4 discount) at four for ten dollars. So after the discount that made the cereal $1.50 a box. Good Deal! :) However, our local Krogers (more than one had this) had Frosted Flakes four for eight dollars. After discount that would be four for four dollars or a dollar a box. Better Deal! In addition I had two coupons for $1 off two boxes of Kellogs cereal. Therefore buy four boxes of Frosted Flakes (4 for $8) get discount (now 4 for $4) use TWO coupons on four boxes (NOW four BOXES FOR $2!) GREAT DEAL So how does a great deal become an amazing deal? Well first it has to become a bad deal and it works something like this. As I rang up my order (U-Scan) the register wanted to charge me $2.50 a box (four for ten). It gave me the four dollar discount but this brought it down to only $6 instead of $4 as it should. I pointed this out to the cashier and even walked with her over to the cereal isle and showed her the price tag. She agreed that was this price but refused to fix it on the register! She even called the service desk and confirmed they absolutely would not sell it any cheaper than what had rung up (not the stated price on the shelf!) Fed up I was ready to leave without the cereal (had made a special stop just to get it). But then I asked if it was the manager she had talked to, she said no it was the service desk. But then the manager happened to walk by at that exact time. She knew I was going to ask she called him over. I showed him the price and he agreed with me. This is where it gets GOOD. Not only did the manager make them give me the cereal at four for eight dollars (as they should have) he made them give me one box free! So now the deal goes something like this BUY four boxes of Frosted Flakes for eight dollars. Get four dollars off (now $4 for four boxes). Get one box free NOW $2. Use two one dollar coupons. Final price 5 cents (tax) for four boxes of Frosted Flakes! AMAZING DEAL! To top it off after I proudly deposited my dime into the U-Scan machine I looked in the little cup for my change and there with my nickel was a quarter someone else had left behind! So I actually made 20 cents off the deal! Now the question is why did the cashier have to get so defensive? It's not like they work on a commission. This is not the first time a cashier has gotten upset over giving me a really good deal. I know if I was the cashier all I would want to know is where to get the coupons and go get the deal myself!
  4. The price matching policy is very similar to price matching policies elsewhere. They don't honor BOGO because there is no way to tell what the regular price was if the ad just says bogo and lists no price. Let's say Kroger has Coke BOGO for $4.99 but WM has it for $2.50. Should WM do BOGO? At what price? I don't know of any brick and mortar stores that price match online prices. What I did not know until recently is that WM will price match their store brand for a competitors store brand. So if Kroger brand cereal is on sale you can get the WM equivalent for the same price. I agree with JeffPerk why all the Wal-Mart haters? It certainly seems the 'in' thing to do. They must be doing something right however!
  5. I am in charge of technology at a local elementary school. I also am in charge of the school's yearbook. We have five or six different brands and models of cameras including Kodaks. I have no proprietary software installed for any of them. I agree with the people who say you shouldn't need to install any software. MOST digital cameras (also mp3 players) function as external drives. You should be able to just plug it in and look under 'my computer'. It should show up there as a camera or perhaps something like 'drive G'. Then you click on it and go. To me the error sounds like there is something wrong with the camera or the USB cable. WM should exchange it for you. If not contact the manufacturer. In the meantime, if you have photos you need to get off the camera buy a card reader. Or if you have a MP3 player or other similar device that uses the same size card you can just put the card in there. I hope you get it to work.
  6. Oh, sorry I forgot the price. The games were 19.99. Not a 'HUGE' deal but you are getting the game and the accessory for less than just the game. Yes it is the official game it was the accessory that was the knock off. As pretty cool knock off however. It has a built in ruble pack and laser pointer. The game packs were behind the customer service counter BTW.
  7. Look at their website under trade in values. It gives you an idea of what you can get for some games. Keep in mind these are their top 10 games and they are only offering $20 at most for those. I used to trade a lot there but if Goozex works out for me I won't be trading at GS again. If you are determined to trade at GS however there is another deal you should be aware of. You can buy a card ($10 I believe) with that you get a subscription to Game Informer and an extra 10 percent on all your trade ins PLUS a discount on purchases of new games.
  8. Our local Kroger stores are selling Wii gift packs. They feature a game and an accessory. Such as a game and a steering wheel, game and zapper, game and golf club. These are not the official Wii accessories however. It does seem like a good deal though. I bought Ghost Squad just for the zapper. I looked the game up on Amazon just out of curiosity and it is $22 for just the game.
  9. Have you checked out Goozex? I just started so I can't recommend or not recommend But my BIL has been using it for awhile and loves it. You get a much better value for your games. For example: I just traded Animal Crossing: City Folk (BORING!). If I took it to Game Stop I would have gotten MAYBE $20 for it. Probably less. Now let's say I wanted to buy the new Zelda game. Used at GS it would be right at $45. So I would have to pay another $25 on top of my trade in. Now on Goozex I just mailed off Animal Crossing. When it is received I will get 900 points (aprox. value $45). I can use that 900 points to buy get Zelda which is only 750 points. I will still have 150 points left which is enough for a Game Cube game. You do have to pay $1 per trade but that is all!
  10. Sears may not have filed for bankruptcy yet. But with service like this it could be just around the corner. Just in our area we have lost (or are losing) in the last month- Steve and Barry's, Goody's, Circuit City. Macy's and GAP in bordering towns are closing. It's a tough time to keep a business afloat. You have to do a VERY good job.
  11. Well the heat finally got fixed on Thursday. The guy was there first thing in the morning, very nice and accommodating. Again my problem has never really been with the techs (except maybe the one guy that was late without a call, never found out that story). So the repairman showed up and installed the new circuit board and it immediately burned up. He said it was literally smoking. So he had to shut the whole thing down. He found the problem, a different faulty part that was burning out the first part. Now we are currently having the coldest weather our area of the country has experienced in years so no heat at all was going to be a MAJOR problem. However this technician didn't leave us out in the cold. When the Sears warehouse failed to have the correct part (big surprise- they never do!) he called around town until he found one, drove to the store and came back and fixed our heat! So happy since it is currently -2 Fahrenheit outside! (I know some of you from up north probably think that's a heat wave!) Anyway, I think I am going to call and get his name and technician's number. Then I am calling corporate. First I am going to compliment the technician. Then I am going to tell them all my problems with my equipment and the service I received from the phone/ scheduling department. I am seriously considering asking for a whole new system, if this thing was smoking who knows what other damage was done. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!
  12. No service again today. Talked to the technician at 11:45 and he admitted it would be another hour. I am not at all blaming this technician however. At least not this one (don't know about the one from Friday, it was the same moron who installed the wrong size fuse). He was the original guy out to my house and I really like him. He had promised to look into what was causing the boards to burn up and not just replace it and leave. When I talked to him he said that he told dispatch that his appointments would not start that day until 11:00. He also never received a message to call me 'first thing'. His schedule showed that he was supposed to be at my house around 1:15 PM. I talked to csr's, floor managers and someone from the 'executive office' today (yes I have names). None of them shared this with me though they were bound to have it. Rescheduled for Thursday (I can't do tomorrow or Wednesday) and was told by both the floor manager and the person from the 'executive office' that they could not guarantee me the first appointment. When I asked the person in the 'executive office' for her supervisors name and number she said the next step up was the corporate office. However she could only give me the address of the corporate office and not the number. I assured her that I was sure I could find the number for myself and she told me that was 'fine' but she was not allowed to give it to me. Thanks to a nice GD person I did not have to look far!
  13. Amazon did not specify any games. The poster earlier who posted games was merely guessing which games the 'clues' referred to. Though I have to say I like the guesses much better than the results!
  14. Thanks everyone for your replys. Just to clear up a point so you don't feel too bad for us. We did have heat over the holidays. This is the supplemental heat that is out. It only kicks in when it gets really cold and the heatpump can't keep up. It was in the mid 50's here at Christmas. As of today, Monday, I was told that they were going to call me 'first thing'. Well it is 9:50 AM and I have heard nothing. Getting ready to call back. Good advice everyone. Thanks!
  15. Okay, I need some advice on what to do here. I purchased a new heat pump/ central air unit from Sears in 2005. Since then it has had nothing but problems. Fortunately I paid for the extended service plan (10 years). Unfortunately my latest attempts to get the system repaired have been very frustrating. The main problem with the pump is the circuit board that runs the supplemental heat. This is what kicks in when it is very cold and the heat pump can't keep up. Two years ago it burnt out and had to be replaced. Last year it quit again. This time it was the fuse. The fuse was replaced. Then on Dec 22 we woke up to a cold house. It was out again. December 23rd the repairman came out and checked the circuit board. He said it was burnt out again, this time because the previous repairman had put in the wrong size fuse. Of course the part had to be ordered. Being December 23rd the part could not be delivered until Friday. The repairman made an appointment to come back on Monday (December 29th). Friday and Saturday came, no part. So on Sunday I called and they said the part was still at the warehouse. It would be shipped out Monday or Tuesday. The part had not even been shipped! So they rescheduled the appointment for Friday (January 2nd). My wife and I were both off work that day so we sat around and waited. The technician was supposed to come between 8:00-12:00. We waited around all morning. By 11:30 I called to see where he was. I was told that I didn't have an appointment and that they showed we were still waiting for the part. The part had been delivered on Tuesday of that week and was sitting right there on my counter (Sears ships the part to you instead of the repair center). I asked at that time to be transferred to a supervisor. I was on hold for 5 or more minutes before I was disconnected. Frustrated that we had wasted our last day of vacation waiting around the house I decided to go on and take the kids down the road and deal with it on Monday. So earlier this week I called again and scheduled someone to come out yesterday, Friday (January 9). Again the repairman was supposed to some between 8:00-12:00. My wife stayed home and waited. When 11:00 came and there was no call and no repairman I called again. They said they would send a message to the repair man asking him to call and let us know when he was coming. By 11:55 I had received no call. I called the 800 number back and was told the repairman was one stop away and would call me. Around 12:30 I got a call saying he was about 30 minutes away. My wife had to leave for work at 1:30 so there was no way he would be able to get there in time to fix it. I called and complained, talk to a supervisor and AGAIN rescheduled the appointment for this Monday (January 12) (8:00-12:00). So I just got a voice mail this afternoon saying that the technician may be running 30 minutes late on Monday. I called back to ask why this was and after being on hold for 10+ minutes I talked to a supervisor and was disconnected mid conversation. Called back and held another 10 minutes to talk to a different supervisor. They first said they had no idea why I got a call that the technician was going to be late as they would not know that until the actual day of service. When I gave them the name of the person who called and the time they decided to ask the routing department. The person I talked to came back and said that though there was a slight possibility the technician would be late he probably wouldn't and he would call me early in the morning to confirm that he was coming. So my situation is this. I basically have no recourse with these people. I can't ask for a credit because the heat pump is long since paid for and I am paying nothing for the service due to the extended warranty. I can't take my business elsewhere, again due to the extended warranty. Any advice on what I could do here? If this was the cable company I would (and have) asked for a credit. I feel a lot of my time has been wasted here and I have been very inconvenienced but I don't know what to do about it.
  16. Wow! I just came on here 5 minutes ago to see if someone had posted the story. I didn't see anything so I went to find the news article, came back and you had beat me to the scoop! Here's the story by the way: http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articles/djf500/200901061504DOWJONESDJONLINE000501_FORTUNE5.htm There is one mall in our hometown that was already hurting. Then they laded a big store and made a come back. That store? Steve and Barry's. So that went away and what was left? Well there WAS a Goody's, now that is going too!
  17. Many of these services are available from the same companies online. The website versions of the software are often cheaper or even free. If you go through the IRS website and choose Free File it will give you a list of options. The IRS requires companies to provide Free Filing services to those under a certain income however many companies have either no income restrictions or fairly high ones. Just watch what you are doing they constantly try to upgrade you to the pay service throughout.
  18. I don't necessarily blame Walmart but rather the general stupidity of the masses. This could just have easily (and has!) happened at any other number of establishments. Just think of the number of times this has happened: your order rings up to $20.15 you hand the cashier $25 and then after she punched it into the register you hand her another 15 cents you just found in your pocket. THEN you get nothing but a blank stare because the register has already told her what the change should be and YOU just screwed it up!
  19. Thanks! I got mine. Lucky too. Went to electronics didn't see any movies with a $5 GC and didn't see ANY Tinkerbells. Asked and the associate went right over and picked up one from a stack of various DVD's on the counter. It was the last one! THEN I went to check out. I told the cashier that I wanted to price match the Toys R Us ad and showed her the price. She tells me "We can't do percents off"! If you look at the ad in addition to the 9.95 price it says "50 percent off". I tried to tell her that this did not make any sense since ANY sale is a percent off. TRU just decided to make a point of how much you were getting off. In other words if it had just said 9.95 she wouldn't have had a problem giving it to me, but because it said 50 percent off above that it was a problem. Anyway she called the CSM over and the CSM AGREED with her. Again I pointed out that ALL sales were by their nature a percent off SOMETHING. The cashier then says "well I guess we can call toys r us and see what their regular price is"! What?! What does that have to do with anything? And if 9.95 is 50% off doesn't it stand to reason that the regular price was ummm... I don't know.... DOUBLE that? So I asked to speak to a manager. The manager was very nice and actually intelligent. She explained to the cashier and CSM that it was okay, they couldn't give 50% off only if there was no price listed in the ad. So she price matched the 9.95, gave me the GC, when I handed her the coupon she looked agitated (what are they working on commission now?) but gave it to me anyway. I don't understand what the deal with not wanting to give coupons is anyway. Coupons are reimbursed by the manufacturer so they don't cost the store money. Oh well, got a deal in the end. Later, I did notice on mine that the actual gift card is inside the shrink wrap. Not sure how the cashier was supposed to activate that. She just gave me one she had by the register.
  20. FYI for anyone interested in alot of these. With the discount this is like buy 4 get one free. The cost of buying 5 with the discount is the same as 4 without. 10 with discount is the same as 8 without.
  21. http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/09/64/13/29/0009641329144_150X150.jpg LOL! I tried to buy this on Black Friday. 10 days later they emailed me and said they couldn't fill the order. They sent me a $10 gift card (plus refund) "for my trouble". I went on a couple days later and saw it on sale for $5. I added to my cart figuring hey it was only a dollar more and I did get the $10 card. I reorderd it. It has now been under my orders as processingfor 7 days. Things I have ordered since then have shipped. I am beginning to wonder if they might cancel it again and send me another $10! Now I see it on here. I have to figure out if $1 is wort the trouble of asking CS to adjust the price!
  22. I like so many people thought about the "Horse Fiasco" from last year. Actually I didn't follow the drama last year, but after reading about it in another thread I looked it up. I sat there and read most of the 100's of posts from a year old thread! Honestly this incident is referred to so often on this board I think it needs an official name. My nominations: The Great Horse Fiasco of '07 The Butterscotch Follies The Butterscotch Incident Hope it works out for your cat so we don't have another story... The Kitty Conundrum of 2008! Or maybe the Great Cat-tastrophie! Okay, I need to go to bed!
  23. Okay, so I ordered this (again) almost a week ago and it is till saying 'processing'. Other things I have ordered since then have shipped. I think it would be too funny if they cancel it again and send me another $10!
  24. Okay... so I am a bit confused. A day after my order was canceled and I got the $10 GC I went on the hunt for a replacement hoodie. Went to the Wal-mart website and what do you know? There was the very same hoodie and it was available! It was $5 instead of $4. But still... now I am still getting the hoodie before Christmas and I basically got a $10 GC for $1! That is unless they cancel it again and send me another $10!
