The processor doesn't make noise - it depends on how you cool it (usually the heatsink/fan). I have no idea what the popular choice(s) are for A64 HSFs these days. I'm sure someone on here does. The fans that come with these boxed processors are usually middle-of-the road from what I remember.

That is an option, but a lot of people have Socket A systems that they may want to upgrade without having to get a new MB (and possibly new RAM, etc...) Plus last time I checked there were not many microATX Socket 939 boards and a lot of people (myself included) need uATX boards. But it's still something to think of. If you are building a new system, then A64 is probably the way to go.

Even with tax this is an extremely hot deal. You won't find a better 19" LCD for anywhere near this price. You can usually get the barebones Acer/Princeton/BenQ models for $300 after rebates, but this model blows those away. And no rebate hassle either.

Yeah for some reason they took away free shipping, which made a lot of today's coupons less hot.

The Rebel XT is probably the more "rare" of the 2 deals. The 2005FPW was just a coupole bucks more a few days before, so that deal will come back. I don't know if this Rebel deal will be back, as the $90 coupon is very rare.

Lowering the resolution will make things a little more blurry (as it does on nearl all LCD monitors when you go lower than the native res) but it is by no means unusable. To be honest, if you plan on using it at a lower resolution then you might want to consider a different model as the nice screen is one of the main benefits of the 700m.

For what you need, the 700m is a good choice as Ross mentioned. I got mine for $800 ($500 coupon and $200 rebate cut the price down from $1500). The regular battery is not that great, so as Ross suggested, I'd get the extended battery. The keyboard is fine - although it is somewhat small because of the overall small size of the laptop. The screen is absolutely beautiful and is extremely bright and the high resolution on the 12" screen makes everything very sharp. Just my impressions from ~6 months of using it.

We have a Toshiba DVD/VCR that's about 2 1/2 years old now. Bought it when they were going for $200. Never had a problem. Looks like the reviews on Amazon on this particular model are mixed. I heard that Toshiba is using lower-quality components for some of their cheaper models now (basically relying on their brand name to sell them), but I don't know if this is the case with it or not.
