Fry's Electronics

Fry's is a very large electronics store. In my opinion, they have better deals all year round ompared to Best Buy. Best Buy's BF is marginally better.

They are actually few, and far between. I think in the "Others" section would work fine for them, as they aren't everywhere as the other stores listed.

The problem with Frys is:

1. Their ad is VERY regional. What we get for Indiana might not be the same for California. Heck, I would look up the Northern California and Southern California ads and there would be different pricing.

2. It is very rarely, if ever released early. We might get it a day early at most. Fry's doesn't have a national base, so they print their ads in local newspapers, on the back of say, the business section or a separate 8 page ad on Friday.

I absolutely, positively love Fry's though. They have great deals literally year round. Black Friday is absolutely INSANE there, all day and into the next day. The best days are when they'd have 25 cent hot dogs and cokes (which I think are now 50 cents, sigh) and 99 cent six packs of Coca-Cola. Man those were the days.

Not that I'm biased... I worked there after I turned 18 and until I went off to college. Their discount was great (the Circuit City one was better though...)

last year was the first time I had ever gone to Frys on BF. as much as I normally love this store, its just not appealing to me for BF.

we went later in the day, around noon, so we def were not expecting great selection of what was left. more just perusing for some random stuff.

the store we went to is right off the freeway, with the parking lot entrance at the end of the off ramp. traffic was backup on the freeway a couple hundred meters. once on the off ramp, it was total gridlock at the entrance. people were parking on the other side of the freeway, at the next exit, and walking over. at least a 1/2 mile walk. after 40 minutes and finally finding a parking spot in a dirt lot we got to walk in there.

for those who have not been to a Frys, it is hard to explain. sort of like a Best Buy, CompUSA, Radio Shack on steroids, PC Club all in one. and the check out process is equally as large. you get in one line, and at the head of it an employee directs you where to go. the stores have dozens of cashier stations, some even close to 100. when a cashier is available to help somebody, they raise a sign with a number on it. then the director at the head of the line directs you which one to go to. it seems complex at first, but it always seems to go quickly.

but not on BF. the line stretched around the store, up and down aisles, back and forth. you literally could not go more than 30 feet and not run into the line. although there were still some deals to be had, it just wasnt worth it. I wasnt going to make the gf and her daughter wait in what was a 3+ hour line. sadly, we left empty handed.

The Fry brothers I think used to own the grocery stores, and then they spun them off.

Fry's is a store where you can buy everything - from the tiniest battery to porn to Doritos. Everything any geek needs.

Thankfully, the Fry's up here finally switched over to the red light/green light system of calling customers instead of the paddles. I hated the paddles. It's amazing that 60 registers can be open and the line will still snake through the store. And I usually go the "big daddy" of the Fry's in the SF Bay Area.

Still, I got a case for 4.99 AR one BF. It still works great.

Last year was the first time we got in line at Fry's. We thought they would not have enough items, and no organization to what happened in the store when the doors opened. So we never came here on BF. Based on the lines for their other sales, including Fridays, we knew to get there early. Fry's actual ad does not come out until Friday morning. So you need printouts, and lists. We picked up copies of the actual ad from down the street before the doors opened. The Thanksgiving Day 3-pages are not all the items they will have.

We arrived at 10 P.M. Thanksgiving Day with our travel trailer in tow. By now the line was 1/2 way around the building. If you know how big the stores are, you know how far away we were. We were directly in the center of the rear of the store.

Several people had projectors and played movies on the building walls. Others smoked a large hookah, rode skateboards, slept on carts, and played computer games. We made our pizzas and had a bathroom in the trailer to use.

We got our shopping carts when we arrived. We are very well acquainted with the store layout. Since there were 3 of us, we split the store into 3 sections. Each had a list of items to get, even if they did not want the item, but someone in the group did. Remember, for computers and monitors, motherboards, processors, and memory and cameras you will have to get in a line. Also for major appliances (which we did not need). Most of the TV's were stacked in aisles. We had to get in all 3 of these lines and did this first, routing our way to these lines down aisles that had other grab on the way items on our lists. Then we met in the center aisle to divvy up the stuff. Once inside we were able to spend thousands of dollars, get all the items on our lists, and get out of the store in less than an hour.

Fry's had such a large quantity of all their "Doorbusters" that as long as you got in the store in the first 2 waves of people you were almost assured of getting all the stuff on your list. Police and employees stopped line jumpers.

Fry's prices are lower than BB and CC, their quantity of items cannot be beat, their 100+ checkouts allow for speedy exit. You are able to get to your next stop and get all of the stuff you did not buy here (tools and garage door opener).

If you don't go before they open, don't bother. They may have what you want, but do you want to wait 3+ hours to check out?

One last observation, If you can't find what you want, you may find it while in line. I found stuff that I hesitated to get that people changed their minds on and just abandoned it on the way to the checkout. Keep your eyes open!

My whole bf attack is practically mapped out. But can finalize a thing till I see Fry's ad since they ALMOST ALWAYS beat everyone else. They do have tonssssss of registers but the check out line is never ending! Lol. I've waited in some long lines over the years but last years Fry's checkout line was CRAZYYYYYY. Its like a maze going through the entire store!

Two problems with Fry's, IMHO. If I was pining on being out early on BF, this would be worse. Nothing I need and not much extra cash due to the economy.

First: Their ad is regional. That usually means no leaks.

Second: Their ad does not come out in the Thanksgiving Day paper. You have to get the paper on BF in order to get the ad. The paper in Atlanta is delivered to stores around 5:30am (I looked one year when I woke up early). By that time, you're SOL if you are wanting to get a doorbuster. I wish they would put the BF ad out on Thanksgiving like everyone else so I could plan a strategy. But they stick to their big ad on Friday policy.

I wish someone could get a hold of at least one region. It would give us an idea of what they are thinking as far as deals.

They do put out 2 or 3 pages of the ad in the Thanksgiving Day paper.

It is on inside pages and not consecutive ones. Nor is it on back covers.

You must turn every page of the paper to see them.

There will be enough terrific deals on those pages to entice you to wait

in line Wednesday night.

But the whole ad is not available till Friday. And then usually another ad on Saturday

On some web sites they are reporting a one page ad for Friday, and an 8 page ad for Saturday, Sunday. And also some are saying a one page ad on each of the three days.

We have 2 in Georgia? I thought there was just one over in Gwinnett or somewhere around there?

There is one up in Alpharetta too, on Old Alpharetta Parkway, I think. That's the only one I've ever been to, it's so beautiful inside.

I've never been in a place that big. When they were first building it, I thought it was like a 20-screen movie theater
