yummy mummy
we're in Canada but used to live literally 5 mins away from the MI border and i used to LOVE meijers! it was one of my fave stores! used to do almost all of my grocery shopping there! now that we moved, the closest border town to us is buffalo, NY and no meijers to be found in that part of the country
mcwalker
we will most likely be in NY so sadly, no Meijers big lots sounds good though!!! haven't been to one of those in awhile! If you will be in New York City, skip the T-Day shopping and go see the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in the morning! You can still pick up some NY souvenirs for the stockings! (Note: Macy's is definitely closed as many of the employees are out guiding balloons :greenappland have the rest of the day off.) JohnnyLaRue
GameCrazy is open that day. My friend used to work there every holiday and hated it. Although he did get triple time for pay.
elena_398
I usually got to Kmart and only buy a couple things... Wait in line... then home early. I mainly go for the fun of it and sport. (literally as last year there was pushing and shoving for the Wii even though they gave out tickets! People acted like they wouldn't honor the tickets they had in hand. chilimak
Our wal mart is open on Thanksgiving. The only day our wal mart closes is Christmas. I love it because we don't have to wait outside in the cold on BF morning. We just walk right into the store, walk around and get a "lay of the land" so to speak, then plant ourselves near what we want the most and when they cut the tape, go for it, lol. Plus, our wal mart is in a rather small town, so it isn't overly crowded or crazy. Its a lot of fun.
biggerbear16
I usually don't like to go shopping on TG (like to save energy for BF), but last year was my first time as I needed to get a Wii, so I waited in line a Kmart from like 3am-7am TG day so I could get the wii, and then had to do it all over again the next day... Not something I will do again unless I have to!
MikeyBFTrooper
I keep getting so tempted to stop at KMart on my way to my parents place each year, cause I leave so early I usually end up passing by two different Kmarts about an hour or so before they open on TG. And one that is right off the 99 freeway. I have yet to see what the crowds look like there on TG though, may be worth it, may be a bust who knows. But I do get that itchy feeling when I see that big red K closing in on me as I am flyin down the freeway. This might be the year!

This might be the year!Well the kmart I was at didn't have a large line (I was first at 3am) but people who got there an hour or two before they opened even got the 32" HDTV last year for 499, which was what most of the people came for. So, I would say if there's something you want in their ad, you probably have a good shot at it.
ashemgra
No stores in Maine open on Turkey Day! So we get to shop the thanksgiving day sale on Wednesday!

Well the good thing is I usually go for small items, dvds/cds/games etc. and whatever other random item catches my eye, which seems to happen alot on this day. But thanks for the info though, sounds like it ain't too bad at all. I will mark that as +1 in the "reasons to go" column.
elena_398
I must live by die hards for shopping deals, because if you aren't line line by at least by midnight, you will be about 10++ inline. Its insane
KittySkyfish
I only hit Garden Ridge just to get out of the house and stretch my legs. IIRC they do their 72-hour marathons starting Thanksgiving Day.
suzi1975
If I see something in a thanksgiving day ad that I really have to have or something that the kids really have to have then I go to wal-mart and price match it to skip the long lines. Mugglemom
My Kmart doesn't really have a line on TG day either. Last year we went for the disney digital cameras. Waited in line for about 30 minutes. They started passing out tickets for all the big stuff like the Wii's and the big Tv's. We asked if we needed tickets for the camera's and the girl was like, " oh those, we didn't get those in." I threw a hissy fit, we bolted to the car and made it to the other Kmart about 20 minutes away and just made it in the store. Happy ending, they had the cameras and I was over my fit! Bursley2010
Meijer can't be beat...if we go out at all, we usually check out Meijer and Kmart on TG to stretch our legs and walk off that big meal. If the deal is good enough, then someone will head out early morning and make it back in time to catch up on that sleep while the Turkey is cooking.
