lincolndog Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 how much do you pay a teenager weekly to watch an eight and six year old from 8:00 - 5:00. Thanks have no idea
Sue-Z-Q Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 You are going to get some very different amounts here. It depends on your area. In my area, and unlicensed day care provider would be $150.-$175.-ish. Maybe you could call a few day care centers in your area and get an idea of the going rate for your area.
KBsDarling Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 lol my adult friend does that time mon-fri and its 60$ a week so yeah i think this is gonna be a huge swing
erinplus3 Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 In the summer I watch my friend's two kids and she pays me $45 a day, which works out to $225 a week. I have no idea what the going rate is where I live, I mostly do it as a favor to her and to make a little extra money in the summer. I would call around to local providers in your area and find out what they charge and set it from that. It's so interesting to hear how big a range there is in childcare costs.
guilliam Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Our local daycare is $68 a week for school aged kids during the summer. Last summer we paid ds17 $50 a week to watch his little brother. Of course, he thought he was getting ripped off LOL but we told him he either did that, or got a real summer job (he wanted $$ to buy something)So he did it. The way I see it, what other job would he get where he got to be at home playing his video games and using the computer all day? Plus, it ended up costing us the same because daycare would have provided ds5's lunch, with ds17 watching him, we had to buy food for their lunch. So it's not like we saved any $$
conj Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 if the teenager can not drive I would pay them $100. If they were taking the kids places, I would up it.
citrixgirl Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 for my babysitting i pay 6 bucks as hour... Dang jersey is expensive.
noehlp Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Daycare costs here very greatly. $2 per hour for 1st child, and $1 per hour more for each additional child - I have a friend that does this for me on the rare occasion that I go do something, so it's not a regular basis. And this is very inexpensive Now full-time per week, I think the cheapest around here is $100/week, but that is usually for just 1 child. Hth
alora7 Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 I know I got paid $100 a week when I was 15 to watch 2 kids for 40 hours a week. That was also 8 years ago so I don't know what it would be now. We live in a small town in OK so regular day care is really cheap, the couple I did it for just didn't want their kids in day care. I think they also gave me and extra $30-40 a week for ordering pizza and rewarding the kids if they were good with a goody from the ice cream truck. The extra money was never part of my pay necessarily, just extra to pay for treats or if we wanted pizza for lunch so whatever was left over was given back to them. They also paid for the groceries for 1-2 meals a day for me while I was there. I would figure out how much you can afford and put an ad in the paper advertising it and see who you get. If you don't like the people that will do it for that price then you may have to up the price a little to get better people. I did it for a friend of my mom and she liked that she knew me and that my mom was only a few blocks away if things got out of control. Hope that helps!
jazzy442 Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 If you have a craigslist in your area check it out and see what the sitters are advertising for their rates in your area.
katiesmommy01 Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 I found my sitter on craigslist (she came with child abuse clearances and first aid certification, I also copied her license). Just be careful doing it this way to make sure who you get is "ok"...I pay her $10 an hour (bargained down from $15). However she is a grad student. Our old sitters were 18 and 19 and lived in our neighborhood (they have since moved)...I knew their family ahead of time and knew the girls as well. I paid them $7-8 per hour (and they were thrilled with that!) lol...so it differs alot. I would also try looking at local colleges for kids who are majoring in early childhood education...they usually want to pick up sitting jobs and are good with kids/responsible. good luck!
nnmfam Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 My son babysits developmentally disabled kids he gets 10 -12 an hour so all day and 2 kids I would say at least 120. Saying you provided gas if they were going anywhere and meals and snacks
Tracy72 Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 personally for me I would not allow a teenager that is watching my children be allowed to leave my home with them....that is just me though....unless you absolutely know for sure they are a respossible driver...then it would only be emergency and not because they want to run and shop or something like that
JennaBug's Mom Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I was paid $100 a week to watch 2 kids (ages 1 & 7) but that was 10 years ago (OMG lol). Anyway, around here it would probably be at least $175-$200 for 2 kids. I pay $175 now for just one in daycare/preschool!! It's almost not worth it to work! I agree that you should call around and check rates in your area and then deduct some from that for meals and such.
veronicalfb Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 i used to babysit every weekend in high school (about 4 years ago) and was paid $8/hour on average...i work as a nanny now for one 18 month old boy and get $11.50/hr it depends where you live, how many kids you have, how well behaved they are, and what experience the babysitter has
loves30 Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 under the table and in jersey i would say. a teen to watch no more then 200.00 im cheep.. lol
ukdebc Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 By me, where apparently no teenager needs the money, the going rate is $10-15 per hour for two kids. A daily rate would be maybe $75 - 80 and if I could negiotiate hard the weekly rate would be $300 - $350. If the teenager was 14-17 you could maybe take $2 per hour off the rates. For an adult - $375 is generally the minimum. (and that is off the books). Needless to say I rarely use a babysitter :)
ailes220 Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 I have been told I would pay $10/hr for 16 yr old to "babysit" my 4 kids age 1-7,if I am still at home and need a helper. That's just to help! I can't imagine what I would pay to actually leave the house. That's why we hardly go out.:)
acampingguy Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I would think you would want to at least match minimum wage or they will find work elsewhere. We pay a professional baby sitter $10 per hour. I would think a teen could do well on $7-8 per hour for a non steady job. If you are looking for all summer 5 days a week, I think you could create a much lower weekly rate $200.
