acer laptop worth it?

Recommended Posts

Howdy! I was wondering about Acer laptops. Any good or bad things I should be looking for? They seem to be a lower price than the other more well known laptops - Dell, Sony.

I'm not looking for a laptop to replace my home pc. Just looking for something that is portable around the house. So I don't need all the bells 'n whistles.

The help is appreciated!!

We purchased an Acer laptop in 2004 for our son. It has had no problems and whereas my daughter's Toshiba (Black Friday 2005) and hubby's DELL (business model) have had repeated problems.

I should also add that it was used daily up until he became a self-professed Mac nerd in June. (The college he attends is a Mac based campus so he bought a MacBook Pro after HS graduation)

My husband has had an Acer Aspire for the last 3-4 years and not one bit of trouble with it. He had an HP before and had more problems with it. He is not easy with it either, as he travels a lot by car everyday for his work. I would buy another in a heartbeat ;) Just be sure you get one of those laptop coolers (fan) to go under it, my husband thinks that maybe why he had trouble with laptops before. When they get too hot, they just fry

I bought an acer laptop, specifically the Aspire 3610 and have not had ANY problems at all. I am self employed and use this for work and personal use and it is great. I have XP and I put Office Professional 2007 on it. I also have Nero 7 on it, which is a pretty large program and it runs great. Now I did do a complete uninstall of a lot of stuff that came on it which took up too much space. My computer runs 24/7. I probably should turn it off more, but I don't. The only issue I have now is the battery does not want to stay charged, but this is after almost a year of use and I just found out the other day that you are not supposed to leave the battery running when you have it plugged into the wall, as that will put extra strain on your battery. Soooo.......I think Acer's are great. I definately think there is no reason to spend the extra money on a "name brand" if you don't need anything with "bells n whistles"

Absolutely. My husband has one that he uses as a GSP when we go to the desert, as well as an art tablet. (it's the one where you can move the top screen around). Whereas, when we purchaed an HP for our daughter she immediately had problems with it. Starting with the 3 hours it took my husband to remove all the bundle garbage it came with. Compared to his Acer, with had NONE. :)

A family member has had plenty of trouble with toshiba and hp but replaced them with an acer and stated they have had it longer than they had the other brands and has had no trouble at all with the acer. I also read some months ago on C-Net that acer was highly recommended for some models. I am purchasing a acer for my son.

Personally, I do dislike Acer for several reason. Personally, I love Toshiba notebooks, so I almost only buy them however CC was having a very, very, good deal on an Acer display model so I bought it. It looked nice and clean but once I turned it on it made an eerie noise. After talking with very rude Acer support member I figured out the mother board died. So I sent it in to them and they replaced the motherboard though the touch pad felt like there were rocks under it when I got it back. So I call up Acer and they say they must have put in the wrong plastic under it or something along those lines. So I send it back in and when it gets returned the mouse doesn't work at all! I took it to CC, had a huge argument with the manager about it, NEVER buying an Acer again.
