jarerice Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 DD3 Is Opening Other People's Gifts from Under Our Tree....This happened last year and she oopened one of hers. She just got lucky. But sunday when she woke up, I was fixing us something to eat and heard her in there. She opened a pair of shoes that I had bought for DH's brother. LOL....She started crying. It was so funny. Tears streaming down her face and her saying that I didn't buy her any winter shoes. I couldn't help but to laugh. Do your babies / kids do this kind of stuff? DS9 never did anything like this, but they are 2 totally different kids!!!!! LOL
dmmiller Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 That is so cute. Frustrating, but cute. :) I cant say my kids ever did that.. but then, I usually wait to put out the gifts till a week before. Gotta watch out for my bassett puppy this year. (hes a monster)
elena_398 Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Presents don't go under the tree until christmas eve when the kids go to bed. It stops the temptation PLUS I have a puppy so that really enforces that rule. Now last year I put a few gifts that were from the kids to their dad and vice versa, but absolutely no gifts to the kids.
HAnderson Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 if its not the gifts under the tree its the decorations on the tree my kids wont leave alone. This year i havent put any gifts out yet but the decorations wont stay on the tree im about to go crazy:eyepoppin
kieransmummy Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 I have never had that problem. I would take them away for now.
AndreaInNC Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 I don't put gifts out until after the kids have left for their dad's on christmas Eve. But at my house we have the peek and it goes back rule.
freesia39 Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 i'd be SO tempted to be mean and wrap empty gifts under the tree...
jeninpa Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 I thought my DS (2 last year) would try and open the presents that were to other people under the tree last year but he never touched them. He is usually one he gets into everything.
Kandy Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 .. I don't have a problem with the kids doing that...BUT...I have a cat that likes to open the packages. She opened two last year !
booga12345 Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 When my ds was 2 (he's 7 now) he opened not just 1 but all of the gifts. It was the weekend and we were sleeping in, well everyone but him. We awoke to find that he had taken all the presents from under the tree in the living room into his bedroom and unwrapped every single one of them. The look on his face when I walked into his room was priceless! We still laugh about this story to this day. :)
txmomma Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 We won't be putting our gifts under the tree until DD3 goes to bed on christmas eve. She loves opening presents and I just know she wouldn't hesitate to open them all!! lol
loves30 Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 oooo that so reminds me when i was a kid.. i always peeked and one yr i found all the kids toys and told them what they would be getting.. well i learned a really fast leason.. i got not one thing and all the stuff that was mine was given to my other brothers and sisters... my uncle told my mom he would not do that to me so he gave me my gift and it was a walkman lol omg i just dated myself.. anway yrs later when i was in 9th i went to midnight mass. came home arround 2am so i walked in they were all in bed. i went to where the tree was turned on the light saw the gifts never entered the room.. went to bed .. next day my mom starts yelling at me .. i left you a note to finish wraping and put under the tree.. i told her and u also told me never to snoop.. lol slap!!!! lol was so funny.. so then i was grapping paper and making it look like it was tagged wrong and throwing the cloths at the kids .. heheh one of my best mems of my mom before she passed :) now i find my kids finding the gifts but not looking for them just no matter where i hide they find .. lol like i put the pokemon dome in the hot tub house and well sure enough dead cold out my kid decides he wants to go for a bike ride. and see it .lol i just give up he is in 3rd so im waiting for him to come home and tell me there is none.. lol
Princess7915 Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 This is all so funny! I don't have any kids so it never crossed my mind that this could be a problem! I have a new kitten this year - about 3 months old. I was prepared for her to be up my tree but I never even thought about her unwrappen gifts! Oh my Lord what am I going to do about her- I know she'll do it too because she is an absolute mess!!! thanks for the heads up anyways!!!
happysunshine28 Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 awww, how cute. I would have laughed also. My dd just did it once about the same age. I couldnt help be let her finish, it was so cute. Some kids just cant wait to see whats inside.
Shortness Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 My oldest and youngest tried that a couple times when they were little. I think my oldest tried it a few times, and my youngest once or twice. My oldest knew what she was doing at the time, my ds was just tiny and saw presents. My middle child never did it.
nnmfam Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 I hate to tempt the kids I just leave all gifts in a secret place until 2 or 3 days before christmas. By the way my DD found all teh cousins gifts at age 3 and unwrapped everyone while I showered and brought me the papertelling me the paper is so pretty. I could of crieed it was like a week before christmas and with 2 older kdis finding time to wrap is a big joke
ang625 Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 i know that its frustrating jarerice, but that just adorable!
Stowasser Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Oh how funny, we didn't put gifts under the tree when the kids were younger but last year I put some out for grandparents etc, I think this year I am going to wrap some without tags with something like marbles or something that makes funny noises and watch those kids for weeks before Christmas try and figure out the gifts (they are 11 and 12).
miller205 Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 LOL, that is the cutest thing I have ever heard!! Winter shoes!! Awww... When my youngest D was about that age she did a similar thing. My husband had wrapped a few dollar store type items and put them under the tree with tags that said "TO: The Cat From:Mallory; To: Mommy From: Mallory" Mallory is my D and she had just learned to recognize her name. I didn't even know what she was up to until she brought me something I had never seen before and asked for batteries!!! SO funny and DH learned his lesson the hard way that year!!
guilliam Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 When ds was 3, (he's 5 now) he would grab the ornament bulbs off of the tree thinking they were balls and throw them. Can't tell you how many broken bulbs I cleaned up that year! LOL!
conj Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Do you have a spot in her room you can set up a small tree? give her some scraps of wrapping paper, and let her wrap presents for her stuffed animals/dolls/etc. The stuff under the other tree she can't touch - but she has her very own tree.... Being Jewish - we do not have a tree - and we do not have this problem. Now if I were to leave an unwrapped toy out... because I hadn't wrapped it yet... my kids would have a serious struggle to maintain their self-control.
Melissa Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 When mine were that little we never put any presents under the tree until after they went to bed on Christmas Eve.
gvanlare Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 my ds is almost 3, and we've never had the tree where he could get to it. This year we've put our tree up in the livingroom where he spends most of his time, and have gotten him to the point where he leaves the tree alone. we don't trust him with present yet. i think we'll test this weekend (my parents come to visit now for both holidays) and see how he does.
lisamag Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Presents don't go under the tree until christmas eve when the kids go to bed. It stops the temptation PLUS I have a puppy so that really enforces that rule. Now last year I put a few gifts that were from the kids to their dad and vice versa, but absolutely no gifts to the kids.same here no gifts except those for other people. we have 7 cats and s few of them LOVE the bows ugg it gets so frustating. so for the last 12 ys no gifts under the tree till christmas eve. but i might try this yr just to see how it works out oh and no bows on any of the gifts. i'll just add them on the eve. my old neighbors went through this when their son was only 2 he opened all the gifts on christmas eve his sister who was 13 at the time was very upset he opened her gifts. the parents thought it was funny, i felt bad for the girl. i told them that wasn't right he ruined her christmas. after that they didn't put them out till he was older.
tjredsox4 Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 if its not the gifts under the tree its the decorations on the tree my kids wont leave alone. This year i havent put any gifts out yet but the decorations wont stay on the tree im about to go crazy:eyepoppinMy two year old son takes all the ornaments off, so when I put them back on, my tree is bare on the bottom because I put everything on top. I need to buy more anyway, but I'm afraid to buy glass in case he breaks them.
leefamily23 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 My baby is now a teenager-so I don't have to worry about that. When he was younger, I didn't put presents under the tree. Now, that he's older- I only put those out going to oher people outside of our household (like aunt's. grandparent's, ect). Those for him, my husband, and my husband's to me- all get hid in various places.
kc4braves Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 When my kids were toddlers and our dog was a puppy, we had a play yard around teh tree. It kept teh puppy from hiking his leg on our tree which he would do and kept teh 18 month out of it as well. I'm not sure what to about the 3 year old, though. We never had problems once they were that age. They still want to shake everything but they have been told if they unwrap anything or snoop, they don't get their presents. So far so good. So far neither kid, age 8 or 11 have said they don't believe in Santa or anything. However, i think my 8 yo dd is having her doubts. She saw something on TV where someone is collecting toys or money to help provide presents to children around teh world who would have nothing. Dd wanted to know why kids needed us to send them presents. I, not thinking, said that some people in the world are very poor and have very little. She wanted to know why Santa cared if you were poor or not. Didn't he give gifts to all kids?? I had no idea what to tell her. Ever had a similar situation? I remember as a child wondering why some kids I knew got trampolines and go-carts and we never did get anything that big. We got some toys and clothes( my parents provided well for us) but my Santa Claus didn't have the money that others did. I just wasn't sure at 8, how much to tell her. I want her to keep having fun with Santa for a while longer. Oh...ds 11 seems oblivious. lol

I was just discussing it this week: You (child) get presents from Santa... and Your parents, and grandparents and such. Yes, Santa will bring them a present, but their family can't afford to buy any presents and that made the whole family feel bad, so we'll help everyone feel better.
kc4braves Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 That's not a bad answer. I have had to come up with a few over the years. Like ds wanted to know why it matterred if he asked for $50 PS2 games or whatever. HE said that Santa's elves made them so money was no object. Oh boy! I told him that Sony had the copyright on those games and that if Santa's elves made any, they could go to jail. I told him that Santa had to negotiate with Sony to get the games he wanted and that took cash! It worked for the time being. lol
crystalp Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 The only problem I have with my son who is 2, is that he likes to use the bulbs as cat toys, except when he throws them across the kitchen floor they break. The bulbs have moved up now! Oh, he did unwrap part of his younger cousins gift. Just a book! Little turd!
