Nah not at all! I tease mine all the time when they get home from school, telling them I bought them something for Christmas while they were gone. Then they try and guess and snoop, but little do they know I store everything somewhere else! LOL

It keeps them guessing and now that they are older and have the santa thing figured out well, any suspense I can add is a good thing.:yup:

I tell mine (DD4, DS6) that anything they see is for their cousins and they buy it because they know that their cousins are not quite as fortunate as they are. They even like picking things out for them! :) DD is sharper than a new pin, however, so I'm hoping she doesn't figure things out this year... got to make it last as long as I can.

My kids thought I was mean the year I secretly gave everyone a color, and instead of using names on the packages I used their color. Only I knew which presents belonged to each one. I was tired of them shaking packages and knowing what they had, This worked great. That was a few years back but every Christmas since they talk about it.

Well then I am the Queen of Mean because I don't put out ANY of my kids' gifts under the tree until after they have gone to bed on Christmas Eve - or left for their dad's house.

Same way, nothing under the tree until xmas eve when everyone is asleep. what's funny is i hide stuff in their own closets.

I tease my kids all the time. Mom did it to me so I pass it on. :) I had DS convinced for a while that he was getting a baby doll. lol He said eeww that is for girls if I get it Ashlee can have it. :P

I still remember one birthday as a teen or pre-teen. There was a jacket that I wanted so bad -- I wanted nothing else that year. Mom told me they were sold out when she went to get it but that she got me a shirt instead. I had been to the store and they were all gone so I believed her. She handed me a shirt box and I sadly opened it -- only to find she had crammed and taped the mess out of the box to squeeze the suede jacket into the little shirt box. :)

I always tease mine, got to have some fun in there somewhere, they sure love to torture us! Last year we had ds14 convinced they were getting a Wii for xmas (dh was returning 20gb ps3 for 60gb ps3 and had ds with him, so had to come up with a coverup). Ds thought it was so great that he knew what the big present was and the others two (ds 16, dd12) didn't know. Boy was he surprised on xmas morning where there wasn't a Wii, but a ps3!! He was so mad that we duped him! :tongue1: We were actually trying to get a Wii, but couldn't find them anywhere, he ended up getting one for his bday in January :)

I dont think you all are mean.. Just hilarious!

I like reading all that you do to your kids, its giving me ideas. :D

Another fun thing is to put stuff like bells or stuff that rattles like newspaper inside the boxes along with the present to throw them off when they shake presents. Or if it is something that is supposed to rattle or shake, buy a cheap towel or cushion it another way to keep it from making noise.

My Mom still does this to me!:) The BEST was this year for my birthday(10/13) My Mom had me convinced that she had no clue when she would be able to come visit (Mom and Dad are in Ohio, we're in Colorado)and that she wouldn't be able to come for my birthday, even though I begged and pleaded. I was sooo sad. This was going to be my first birthday by myself. DH was out of town for work.

EVERYONE was in on it. My Dad, Brother(in Iraq) and Husband(I'm convinced my puppy knew too!) On the 12th of October, my DH told me I had to come straight home for class. He said he was having flowers delivered on the 12th, since he knew I planned on going out on my birthday. So I waited and waited, no flowers. Then as I'm walking my pup, my Dad calls and says "I Love You, Happy Birthday" which is sweet, but I had just talked to him 15 minutes before and he had to finish work on his computer, so why did he call back? Well then my Dad says "Mom just got off the plane in Denver and is getting on the 5:19pm bus to Boulder, you have to pick her up at the park and ride, Happy Birthday" OMG I was SOOOO HAPPY!!!!!:D I cried and screamed and kept saying to my Dad. "Are you sure? Are you sure?"

The BEST Birthday EVER! and the BEST Tease! She had been planning it since June/July when my brother was here on leave from Iraq. I still can't belive that they all were able to keep it from me. And then on my Birthday, I was awaken in the early morning by athe phone. It was my Brother calling from Iraq, wishing me a Happy Birthday! :fluffy:

This thread is cracking me up! :g_laughin

After all, isnt it a parents job to tease their children and embarrass them as much as possible??? :lmao:

Yes, I love to torment my kids and embarass them in public whenever possible. They do it to me all of the time. I guess they get it honest.

Last year, I was joking with my 5 yo nephew about what he wanted for Christmas. I decided he needed a Barbie and he was like no, no, no (laughing along of course) so I got him a cheap dollar store barbie type doll and wrapped it along with the Power Rangers Karate thing he really wanted. When he opened the doll, he cried :( . I felt so terrible but his folks were in on the joke and laughed their butts off.

I tell my 5yo ds that he is getting a a bratz doll house and a cute smores pony. He yells he is a boy and offers to "show" you.

When I was a kid we would always find our gifts early. So one year we found heavy gifts we had not seen. After much excitement my parents said we had to open them at time. They got the camera ready to "take our pics to see our surprise". They were giant ROCKS!

No I do not think that is mean at all. We are pretty bad to our kids though. We hide gifts and put things in odd places and boxes. See if it were me whatever her big gift was would be wrapped inside a HSM or HM box ... but that is us lol. Last year DS got sad beause he thought we didn't buy him his "big" gift. It was sitting behind the tree in a silver suitcase that had been there all season. ;)

I can't even believe that you thought it was " mean" to tease- I think the worst was when my bebe was 4-5 the 3 older ones wrapped her a big box of love>>> there was 4 boxes all wrapped inside each other but in the smallest box was just a note explaining that it was a box filled with their "love" It didn't help that they were all laughing their a** off...

My DD13 likes to help wrap gifts. The last two years I have had her help me wrap. I hand her the gift and when she is done I had her the tag to put on it. All the while I am also either wrapping or dragging a few more gifts from hiding spots. Anytime I could get one of hers out and in a plain box with no print, or in a box it didn't come in that looked either boyish or very uninteresting I would slide it over, she would wrap and then I'd hand her a tag with her name on it. She was so frustrated cause she would start checking them all and when she was certain I was done with the games I would do it again. She wrapped over half her gifts the first year and about a third of them last year. TOO FUNNY!!!! This year they are getting older (8, 10, 11, 13)... the three older ones all have birthdays in Jan/Feb too. So I am considering putting the wrong names on the tags .... so maybe DS10 will have DD13's name on his and so on..... he is the snoopy one so his has to be really good.... lol..... that would throw them Christmas morning.... hehe..... like if I say ok, DS10 and DS 13 get up and switch gifts... One year I did numbers and I had a list which numbers went to which kid and what was in it....

Last year at our family name draw my DS7 got FIL's new gf's son. He is shy and wouldn't tell me what he wanted so I told him to make a list or it would be a barbie. He was 14. He said "oh a barbie, I have always wanted one". So indeed he got a barbie... he was so embarrassed but laughed and then at the end I "found" his other gift... the Xbox game he was dying for.... he gave the barbie to our GD2.

All in all a lot of fun.. but those that have snoopers... try the wrap your own gift thing... it is tooo funny.....

Hiding presents in their own closet is great- could totally do that in my house! My hubby is the worst though, he always guesses his presents- even when I come up with something unguessable! Glad to hear I am not the only ones with "tweens" (mine hates that btw!) that pout about the teasing!!!
