Just Me Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Last year I sent in to the monopoly game from McD's and had lots of BBB so I used those at best buy. This year I was pondering doing what I saw some do last year. Be one of the first in line get tickets for everything then sell the tickets to the people in the back. Payment for their time camping out. Some charged a fortune like over $50 a ticket. I was thinking $10 or $20 a ticket depending on the item. I'm just torn on if its unethical to do that or just good business
wx4svr Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Heck yeah !! Saying that BF is unethical is like saying that racing is slow. It's crazy! They are a business and they are here to make money, no matter how they get it. Simple as that. But, then again, that's just my two cents.
freelow Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Is it ethical? I would say no. Is it smart? Sure. If people are willing to pay, go crazy.

No the question is Is it unethical to be one of the first in line at BB so when they come out and hand out tickets for the big items they are selling you get 1 of each of the tickets then to turn around and sell those tickets to the people in the back of the line who didn't come early and camp out thus didn't get a ticket. Last year I saw people getting tickets for the cheap laptop and desktop and stuff then selling those tickets to the people at the back of the line. Thier defense was the people in the back were basically paying that person for their time they spent camping out to get the tickets
mgmckny Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Sorry, I say unethical because there are people that did come early and camp out and still weren't close enough to the front to get a ticket for something they did want. If you don't want the item and are lucky enough to be in the group that is offered a ticket- don't take it.
Shortness Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 It is unethical, in my opinion, however, if I was still getting a deal to pay a little extra, I might pay somebody else to stand in line for me. Only because perfumes give me asthma, and I have been unable to stand in lines specifically because of perfumes/colognes. But, I'd work out the deal before hand, and pay that person to actually shop for me so I wouldn't have to go out at all. Unfortunately, I probably can't afford to do that. I personally would not wait in front and sell them to someone else for a price--even if my health could tolerate it.

I'm all for BF, if you don't get something, too bad, should have gotten there earlier. I agree with people who sell tickets, I'm in business and own my own company, so maybe I do understand those people a bit better. IDK though... there is somethings that should stay at home, but business sense should be in your pocket right next to the credit card.
floridasun5 Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Not ethical. Many of the stores kick those people out of line and make them leave the premises for a reason.
Rockfordmom Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Why would you want to spend part of your Thanksgiving sitting in line to sell some tickets? Why waste your time in line if you're not there to buy something? I don't get it? Why take tickets of items you don't want, let someone else get it if you don't want it.

We always get lots of stuff. We were just thinking of doing that to get a little BF money since cash is tight and McDonalds doesn't have the BBB this year. We will be camping out to be up front one way or the other unless the sale bites this year
mmm40 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Unethical? I'm not sure. Greedy? Without a doubt.
bigjimslade Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 In some states it is unlawful and can be seen as ticket sclaping. Also BB can kick you off of there property for doing this. At my BB last year someone did it and BB called the police and they arrested the person.
artie852 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Last year I got some tickets that I didn't want and endded up giving them to people for free. Come on people its not right to sell tickets.
Deviant5ouL Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to this question and it will depend entirely in the eyes of the beholder. I personally would not do it only cuz I usually feel generous on that particular day (yes, even much more so than Christmas day) and would much rather share (like last year) some extra tickets I'll have (due to money running out) to those others who did not initially get them. But what we all have to realize is that we live in a capitalistic society - a world where money is king - and I don't think we can fault those that try to make a quick buck from doing so. Don't tell me that if you saw a $5 bill on the ground that you wouldn't pick it up. It just so happened that you were the first one to notice the bill on the ground. Doesn't mean that the guy behind you who needs the cash more than you do has a bigger right to "own" it than you. Right?
christib327 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I couldn't do it and feel good about it. But then, I can't say that I wouldn't be one to spend $20 to get a ticket for something if I had really really wanted.
aztater Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I don't know what is worst. The thought of trying to make an extra buck or the person that said this. I think this might be worst. Becalyn I hope you get everything you want on BF, but I also hope the same for everyone else. I wouldn't ever wish that someone got nothing.
jenilyn Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 WHOOOOAAAA KILLER!..... It was a constructive conversation.... emphasis on was... everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, but it needs to be presented in a forum friendly manner. If its so sickening indeed why are you here? This site is dedicated to Deals, and chatting about them. No harm done OP, I think it was a reasonable question to have asked the popular opinion on.
mmm40 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Is greed unethical?I can't believe how torn this question has me. I can easily say I think greed is amoral but unethical? I don't know. Our society is a capitalist society. It is the driving force of our economics's. So I tend to think greed itself isn't unethical but the actions we take because of greed can be.
len_mullen Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Last year I got some tickets that I didn't want and endded up giving them to people for free. Come on people its not right to sell tickets.I'm not sure this is unethical. If you stand in line and earn the tickets, who is to say you are not entitled to sell them. If I was first in line and someone offered me a lot of money to take my place, would that be unethical? It is, however, inconsiderate of those behind you. Whether you sell the ticket or give it away, you are taking something you don't want and depriving someone -- who did wait in line -- of the ticket. *You* may feel better if you give the ticket away, but the guy who was unable to get a tickle me elmo for his kid won't. When I go our on BF, I have a list and do not buy anything not on the list. I don't throw things in my cart while I think about them, and I don't collect tickets to sell or give away. Be a good sport and take only what you will buy.
jarerice Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I say go for it!!!!! If people want to buy the tickets, then LET THEM!
dcofsc Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I think if you don't want the item then don't take the ticket. There are people waiting close behind you in line who might want that item and not be able to get it because of someone wanting to make money instead of doing the right thing. Would you like it if you were #11 in line and they ran out of tickets at the person in front of you and then you saw that person selling his/her ticket because they did not even want the item? Would you like the fact that you lost out because of that? Put yourself in the shoes of others who are waiting and then you might think differently. And yes, I saw a couple taken to jail last year for trying to make a few bucks by selling tickets.
jellybean051901 Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I would feel guilty doing that. I wouldn't want that to happen to me if the person in front of me was the last to get a ticket and then sold it to someone else. Last year people were offering us money to get the ticket for the TV at WM but no one in line would do it. They all agreed it wasn't fair to those behind us. But to each his own.
jellybean051901 Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 On the other hand, I have never been offered money for a ticket that I wasn't already planning on using. I guess I am not really sure what I would do if the situation actually arose.
pogiporkchop Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 If I had a ticket and changed my mind after getting it I would give to the first person behind me who really wanted it. It's about the true spirit of the season :)
jonesy Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 THAT IS CALLED GREED! Do not make the day worse than it already is! A litte harsh to the op don't you think?
dmmiller Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I have to say, I'm on the fence about this. I guess it depends on where I am in line. LOL Am I the 13th in line and they only have 12 tickets? Then I may be alittle ticked. (in the end, to myself, that I didnt get there earlier) If I'm #11 and they have 12 tickets, then I'm okay. :) Instead of going to the End of the line ( to people who get there 20 min before doors open) maybe try and sell them to the 13th person instead. They've been there all night, and deserve the break. You could say, "Hey.. I decided I dont really need this, I"m thinking of selling it.. you want first dibs?"
Fishboysmom Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I am so sorry I decided to read this thread. I hope those that sell or are planning to sell remember what the season is really about and have a change of heart. Now I am so glad I stay home with my family on BF.
