BF Ads...Fake or Real?

All this talk of the fake ads and all that...well here is a question?

what purpose (if anything) does the stores have for allowing us to view their ads weeks in advance? My theory is that yes you can plan ahead and see what you want BUT...

This maybe items you get before and they are losing money on sales, so why not wait? So hey if they put up fake ads more power to them...

thoughts?

Im confused. These are real ads.

And I never understood how stores lose more sales because people get to see their ads weeks ahead.

Fake ads as in:

Wal Mart and Best Buy...

But they see weeks ahead of time and what? You don't buy those products until then? If you didn't see the ads and it was something you were going to buy you would buy it now

I am saying who is talking about fake ads. I haven't seen any threads about talking about fake ads.

I think this person is just trying to start some controversy where there really is none. All of us of us who have joined or lingered here over the last few years know that Brad and the crew don't post fake anything, especially in regards to Black Friday.

So this is, as always, a non-issue. Let's just let this go and get back to our REAL PLANNING!!:D

Store owners aren't the ones leaking the ads weeks in advance, probably an employee or someone that prints out the ads. And putting out fake ads would just bring too much trouble for them on Black Friday. They'll get confused and angry customers wondering why the items they wanted aren't on sale.

I don't think the op is trying to start any controversy. There's always that possibility that the add could have been a fake proof. To me, it seems that the ads getting out leads people getting more excited about the holiday season and then more likely to spend money.:D Besides, if Walmart wanted to they could send a "cease and disist" letter at any time. It seems only the smaller stores (LNT this year and Office Depot last year) do that.

To answer the question...no, I don't think these ads are fake unless the stores purposely leaked fake ads, unlikey. This site doesn't post ads unless they are real. That's why there are "rumored" ads until they are posted by Brad. The question was also raised last year because people wonder why the ads are leaked. Employees who want to share the info leak the ads. Thanks to them, we can plan ahead, which really helps me with five kids to know approximately how much money I will need and have time to get it together. I love this site and the great people here for that reason among many others. Really, though, if you look in the archives from last year there was the same discussion. If an ad turned out to be fake, it's not because Brad and the other admins here didn't do all that they could to make sure they were real. HTH

No one is at all saying that GD is posting fake ads. The question was if the businesses where intentionally leaking stuff out just to out do each other in the end. The main point is to just have fun up here, not to get in to arguments about who is saying who lied. Last year, some companies did change the ads but it was only for the better. No one raised any of their prices, they just made them cheaper. And THAT my dear is what we ALL want!!

Every year the ads are leaked and every year the "The ads are fake" or "The ads are planted" accusations crop up. I remember last year a news station ran a story about BF websites and the "real" probability the ads were not legit. They even had an "expert" economist interviewed who said he couldn't believe how the ads were real.....after all, who'd sell a microwave oven for $30 that normally retails for $70 or more?

Needless to say, when the ads revealed themselves on Thanksgiving, invariably they somehow exactly matched these "fake" or "planted" ads here and on other BF websites.

The only ad I saw changed last year was the Wal-Mart ad and that was for two or three items.....they'd tried to pass off regional pricing on a laptop, a TV and maybe some other items. Even trhough Thanksgiving, the regional pricing existed on their website....but on BF, the pricing for those items mysteriously dropped to the lowest price advertised in their regional ads, and WM ended up putting an outside page with the lower prices for those items. Even in the stores, they had "price update" sheets refelcting the lower prices, if your region was one of the higher priced ones.

Otherwise, I've never seen the leaked ads change at all to what arrives in the newspapers.

Our walmart lowered the prices on several items last year. Almost all electronics were lower, all dvd's were a few $$ cheaper, and several of the toys.

I don't think anyone is saying that GD posts fake ads, but possibly the corportations have sent an incomplete ad, or the ad leaked was maybe an early draft?

And Sears and Kmart had a C&D last year too.. fairly big corporation

The reason they would leak fake ads is to keep the competition going. For example if Walmart were to leak their ad first and had a $399.00 laptop and then best buy came out with a $379.00 laptop , walmart could outdo best buy and change their ad to $349. It happens all the time in my business so why not there with so much money at stake?
