jthompson27
I just got off of the phone with "customer care." I had a problem this morning and called to see if someone would be able to help me resolve it. Apparently no one at Best Buy cares if they keep their customers. I will never set foot back in the store. Well, maybe to return the stuff I bought there earlier this week. I called yesterday to see if they would match the price another local store had on 30 GB ipods. The young lady I spoke with said that yes, that would not be a problem. So I went to my local grocery store to buy gift cards for this purchase. The grocery store offers a gas incentive for buying gift cards there. I brought the GC home and took them out of the packaging, seeing as how I planned to use them this morning. When I got to BB today, I was told that the other store was offering a gen 5 product, and BB has gen 6 ipods, so there would be no price match. They also won't give me the money for the gift cards I bought (which remember, are now out of the package.) No one wanted to help me with what has now become my $200 problem. I came home and called BB, and spoke with someone who went to her supervisor and came back saying that there was nothing they could do, she could log a "formal complaint." OOOoooo, a formal complaint. Scary. So I asked to speak with her supervisor, who told me essentially the same thing. I asked to speak to her supervisor, and was told that she was as high as I could go. So now I am stuck with $200 in BB gift cards with no intention of ever going back. They did tell me I could take them back to the grocery store, which I guess is what I'll attempt, but since they are out of the packaging, I'm doubtful I can return them. I understand I own some responsibility in this mess. I opened the GC. But I am so very frustrated that no one at BB gives a crap about their customers, especially when I tried to do the right thing by calling to confirm they would match the price. Just thought I would pass it along to the 85,000+ people here just how much BB appreciates your business.
aztater
Sorry you had trouble but honestly I would have gone into the store you wanted to do the price matching and asked first before spending all the money on gift cards and such. I guess it's a live and learn kind of deal. Maybe you can sell your gift cards on line.

Only 5th generation IPODs are out. Therefore, they are fooling u. The new 30 and 80 gig IPODs are still fith generation. The SIXTH GEN IPOD will probably come out next year
bitWrangler
Hmm, go to/call the other store and get the exact model# of the ipod you are interested in. Then go back to BB and ask if they stock that model#, if so, then they should price match it. No issues about what gen it is then, if the model# is the same, then the ipods are the same. If the model#'s are different, then I think (as in my own personal opinion) that BB has 0 responsibility to refund you anything. It makes sense that you can only price match on the EXACT same product.

At least you will get most of your instead of losing out completely. Or wait until BF and spend it on BB merchandise. After that you can keep it or sell the stuff. All is not lost..... BTW....none of them REALLY care about one customer and their little problem. It is when we start complaining by the masses that they start to listen. Guess I'm back to the phone to get the upc. And I completely 'get it' that they can only match the exact same product. I'm not arguing that point. I'm not arguing any point, really, just that it is so very aggravating that I have been left with the feeling that not a single person within BB cares that I want to buy stuff there. jthompson27
Well, BB certainly picked the wrong day and the wrong person today. I called BB and spoke with the manager again and told him that I had spoken to someone at Apple who said it was impossible for them to have the 6th gen. since they aren't out yet, and that the other store's model number matched BB's model number, which also matched the model Apple gave me. I explained that the other store was now sold out of them, of course, but we have no way of knowing if they were sold out this morning when I was in BB. If I had gone in to BB and the other store had been sold out, it would have been an entirely different situation, but the reason I couldn't get a PM was that they allegedly weren't the same item. He eventually saw my point, and is going to PM it for me. Score one for the little guy (girl). I wish I hadn't spent my entire day on this, but I can't wait to give this to DH! I guess the lessons in this are plentiful for me. Thanks so much for all of your help!!

jthompson27
Wow. What a sense of entitlement you have in your OP.Sorry. That was not my intent. I just felt like nobody cared, and that I had TRIED to do the right thing by confirming that they would, in fact, match that price for me. The ONLY reason I even wanted to have the PM was the fact that I could get the GC at the grocery store and get $$ off my gas. I would have gladly gone and spent my money at the store with the sale. And I'll admit, I was feeling angry when I wrote the OP. If no one at BB cared that I was having a problem, and no one there wanted to help me, my feeling is simply that the most powerful tool I have is word of mouth. No one there wanted to listen, but here, I had potentially 90,000 people who could help me. And they did - from helping me calm down to see that I did have other options to raising my suspicion about the existence of a 6th gen. product. I appreciate all of the suggestions that were given here, and from that, made my course of action to calling Apple and talking with the manager at the local BB again. So I apologize for sounding like I had a sense of entitlement, but maybe I did. I did feel I was entitled to get what I was told I would get. jthompson27
I just got back from BB. When I went to the counter, the BB employee asked me if I wanted a 5th gen or 6th gen? Funny, but this morning when I was there, he didn't give me a choice - just said that they carry the 6th and Meijer carries the 5th. Anyway, I told him that as far as I know, there is no such thing as a 6th gen. Well, he didn't like that. He was very defensive and said he just checked on Apple's website and found a 6th gen. I was done, so I just told him that I was unable to order a 6th gen from Apple, so whatever. So we go to checkout and the manager comes up and apologizes for all of this, then after a brief conversation about the fact that I could not order a 6th gen from Apple, I asked him why I wasn't offered this product this morning - then this whole scenario could have been avoided. Well, as luck would have it, UPS made a drop-shipment of the very product I was after just an hour before I got there!!! Regardless of what I may come across as, I am sure that BB thought that they could tell me whatever they wanted to, and that would be the end of it. Not me, not today. Jenh1973
When I had a big problem with Filenes (now Macys) last year I got all my documents lined up & filed a formal report with the BBB. After filing my complaint, the regional manager called me apoligized, sent me a $100 gift card, & replaced my defective product. If you have written proof of price & price match. I would file a complaint. & I totally agree, word of mouth hurts them worse than anything.

duls89
I also have had trouble with best buy. I will still shop there for little items like video games and dvd's but I wouldn't buy anything that might need a warrenty or customer service, because I feel they don't fully respect their customers and could care less if you come back there seeing as they have enough people shopping there and one person doesn't really matter, I am glad you got your situtation taken care of, stories like this are nice. conj
Best buy is 45 min away (as are many things... <sigh>) so we only go there for good deals... will use BBonline for free shipping - but they're customer service is in India... so I guess I will avoid that as much as I can in the future...
