Illinoismom Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 My husband and my son have decided that this weekend they will go up in the attic and start to put the stuff out. They usally wait until it's in the negative outside and ice forms on the face to start. This year they want no part of that. we will see if they really do it. LOLOLOLOL So what your plans for the outside
Tommysmom Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 :) We start our decorating on Tksgvng wknd, of course it's still 80 degrees here.
berry1014 Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 We start hanging the icicle lights and chasers on the house and garage the weekend before Thanksgiving and the do the rest of the outside decorations Thanksgiving weekend.
glitterstarr Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 It depends on when hubby feels like doing it. Usually it's the week before Thanksgiving but I only turn them on to see what they look like and turn them on every night the night after Thanksgiving. Well actually the timer turns them on and off every night.
qbmomx2 Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 I am putting the lights up this weekend - would of last weekend but it poured - the reindeer and trees go out Thanksgiving night - and we turn it all on then!
Jennifer0530 Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 I think we are going to do the outside lights this weekend. I want to get it done before the temp really drops.
ms_mckenna Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 We do it the weekend after Thanksgiving usually. But it is warm here in Texas so we don't have to deal with the cold weather. :)
tootsieroll23 Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 We usually do it during Thanksgiving weekend unless we have a weekend that is unusually warm and DH will do it then.
sleepyshopper Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 We try and get all the outside decorating done the first really nice day after Halloween.....If there is no nice days before the 14th of Nov., they we just have to freeze.....
rogue1230 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 i think we are going to do it the weekend after.... maybe I will go solo this year with out DH. We don't do a whole lot.... 2 small trees in the yard with lights and lighted garland on the fence...... I thik I can handle that,,,,, we can do the tree when he gets home from work.
rgroves Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Funny story on outside dedorations. Wife and I bought a new house last summer ('05). We planned on some lights and things for hte house for our first Christmas in the house....nothing spectacular or outrageous. Well, as fall approached and I planned out the lights and such, I noticed as the leaves fell off this one tree in our backyard had strings of lights in it. None of them worked, and some were growing into the limbs of the tree. I thought I better get them out of there before it hurts the tree. so I started pulling and pulling. About 25 strings of lights later I had all but 2 strings from the top of the tree. 25 stirngs...OMG the tree was only 1 -1/2 story tall. Too bad none of the worked and I broke a lot of the before they came down....it could've saved my $$$ on the decorations on the front of the house. LOL But a word of caution.... Avoid the white LED icile lights. I'm all for lower cost power bills and saving money, but these lights just look nasty. They leave a freaky white glow on the house. The colored LED lights are great and extremely bright and don;t use much power.
momof5plus1hubby Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Well I am thinking about putting the lights this week maybe? It gets really cold by the end of Nov. I just won't plug them in until after Tday
Turtle Mommy Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 :) We start our decorating on Tksgvng wknd, of course it's still 80 degrees here.Same here.
g-man430 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 2 weeks before thanksgiving here. One year I even set up my christmas stuff November 1st. Why does everybody wait until thanksgiving to set stuff up? Is there some code or something telling you to wait until that day to set up stuff?
bugsette Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 around thanksgiving weekend maybe if the weather is nice the weekend before
angel-too Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Today when I took down all the outdoor Halloween lights and decor I put up the outdoor Christmas lights on trees and bushes! On or about Thankgiving I'll flip the timers on. It's so much easier when it isn't so cold! I can take more time and put more up!
Kygal2003 Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Before it gets much colder outside, DH is going to hang the icicle lights (maybe this weekend) but they won't be turned on 'til everything else is up and set up....which will be Thanksgiving weekend. The tree goes up and all decorations will be out also!
smangham Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Hubby is outside pressure washing the house as we speak.......then it's ON!!!
g-man430 Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 If Garden Ridge and other stores are selling christmas decor for people to buy, then how is it too early to put it up? I say put it up now.
Anita967 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Saturday after Thanksgiving is when I start. Friday is of course for shopping!!
f1rstclass Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Did some of the outside lights yesterday---I had a really nice day doing this..I worked on everything that requires a ladder....so only thing that is left is the easy stuff which I can do cold weather or not ...about 50 degrees here yesterday!!...I don't enjoy putting up lights in 30 degree weather...its so much fun putting them up, but depressing taking them down.
g-man430 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 I'm slowly starting to put stuff up here. It was amazing how many people were at Garden Ridge today buying Christmas decorations. I don't think i've ever seen that many people buying decorations that early.
Gporter34 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Next weekend will be when we do the outside of the house, if it's nice. This weekend has been rainy and a little cool. So, I did all of the inside decorations.LOL But by next Sunday they should all be in place. I'm actually running late this year, they are usually up Nov. 1st. I love Christmas decorations and I just always put them up early.
