guadarrama Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 this is my first year at bf. i have worked retail since i was 16 an d always had to work on bf. but now i am a stay at home mommy and am stoked about bf. what time should i get in line, any suggestions on where to go first?
krstee Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Well, it really depends on where you go. If you want something from Best Buy, plan to stake out a spot sometime during Thanksgiving day/evening to even be able to get one of the prized door buster deals. I was at a 24-hour Walmart last year and was there WAAAAYY too early (2am) for what I was there to get, but it would be reasonable to say that if you show up 1 hour (or less) ahead of time, you most likely WON'T get what's hot.
guadarrama Posted October 12, 2006 Author Posted October 12, 2006 thanks, not sure yet where to go, don't need big stuff yet maybe just dvd vcr combo or dvd recorder. guess i'll just have to wait for bf ads huh.
copados1993 Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 My DH and I will go around 4 AM. Have to wait for the ads to come out to know where we will go first.
tdanette Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I think it depends on where you live. If it's a smaller area, then 3 am should be good from my experience. But the larger the city (and perhaps the hotter the deal) the earlier you need to be there. Good luck!
chopsuey612 Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Where I live, last year I got to best buy around midnight. The line started at the door. I was about 1/3 a way on the side of the building. When the time came to hand out the tickets for the good deals (emachines, stuff like that), they stopped handing them out about a 10 people after me. I didnt need a ticket though, so I gave it to someone who needed it. I live in st pete florida, which is right across the bay from Tampa. Its a pretty big city, and there are only 2 best buys in the whole county. If that sounds like what you have to deal with, I'd get there around midnight too.
pogiporkchop Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I just moved to a much smaller city over the summer, but I'm going back for BF because I know where the stores are (and they're better located - everything within 1/4 mile). Might spend the night there, and depending on the ads, go early in the evening to stand in line. it's an hour away, and I have another major area only 20 minutes away, but the store layout won't be the most efficient for my shopping.
blakes_mommy Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 It depends on what you want and how bad you want it.
sigrist_2000 Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 typically 3-4 hours in advance of opening (usually wait in car til people show up so waiting in line is less)
peachysquirt21 Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 The only store I get in line for is Target. If I go to Walmart, I try to get my stuff & get the heck out of there so I can get over to Target. I stand outside for about 15 to 20 min.
darianwiccan Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 I will probably be in line, along with my shopping buddies, at around midnight. Possibly earlier if I hear about lines forming early for the really hot items. Yes I'm insane, I freely admit that
rogue1230 Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 I think for me... if walmart is the first stop than 2am is the latest I can be there....it opens the earliest in our area so I think it kinda wins by default. This year I have a "timeline" for turkey day:smart: which ends as " desert and clean up by 8. In bed by 830." lol, last year i went to bed at 11 and could not splep and had to get up at 1- shop and then be at work for 10am. literally, I was in pain, never knew sleep deprivation could hurt like that. The other "bad factor" about not geting a few hours of shut eye? I dozed memnetarily behind the wheel:shock: ( total like 2 seconds- but that's 2 seconds too much) I promised I would never do that again, even if it meant forgoing the shopping.
Mike Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Depends on the store and what you're standing in line for. If its a HOT item, I would expect 10pm on Turkey Day.
lovebears65 Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Last year went to best buy at 3 am and didnt get the prize I wanted of the desk top. This year I am not looking for anything but maybe a flat screen monitor. I will have to see who has the best deals.. I want at least a 19 inch

They are so nice. So much better then the regular big honkin monitors. LOL My first Gateway, I got a 19 inch that wasn't a flat screen. When they brought the box to my door, I am like holy cow. I thought this thing is way to big & I will never get use to it. Soon after I just loved having that big of a screen. I am happy with my 18 inch tho. I will never go back to those big monitors again. Flat screen for me.
firtbird Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Depends on the deal. Plans can now stop since the first black friday ad. Yo Ace
Turtle Mommy Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I leave my house at 430 to get to Walmart. I am about 10 minutes away. Target is right next store so I grab what I need at Walmart and head over to Target. (On a side note: Target was so organized that I had what I wanted and was out of there in less that 10 minutes!! I was amazed!)
aintstupid Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I still do not get what Black Friday is? Early shopping deals that we have to go early too and it is not advertised??? Please help!!!

migirlfriday Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I have never waited in line for a doorbuster. I usually just go early in the morning and get some of the deals. I miss out on alot that way though. This year I want the desktop at BB, so from what I have been reading on these forums, I think I will need to be there by 8PM to 10PM the night before. I am going to plan to have someone sit with me that can take the chairs, hot cocoa thermos, etc to the car when I go in the store. Is that a good idea? How do you usually handle the gear that you would need to have? I don't think you could take them in the stores.
laffnatu Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 We have a 24 hour Walmart so we go around 2-3am to scope out the store and see where everyone needs to be. It's also a good time to go ahead and pick up any items that you are going to Pricematch.

One person holds your place in line while the other puts away the thermos, chairs, etc. in the car. When the doors open you won't have all that stuff slowing you down and keeping your hands free to grab & run.
Bestbuy7 Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Depends on your area. I probably will go around 2-3 am if i decide to go to walmart in L.I. NY or i probably will leave 4-6 if i go to bestbuy first in Rego NY.
kramer13 Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Got in line at our BB around 2:00 am and just made getting a ticket for the kodak c-360 that I was after. Suffered through rain and snow but it was well worth it. Drove home through a winter wonderland. This year hoping for a 19 inch lcd monitor or maybe a laptop.
jellybean051901 Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 I may have to plan on being in line at midnight this year. It seems that everyone is planning earlier
