kelly_jeanie Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 We just found an end-cap where they were clearing out the Senseo coffeemakers for $15. They actually rang up at $30 but they were clearly marked $15, along with a huge sign, so we did get it for $15. Does anyone know why these are being cleared out? Are they discontinuing this coffee maker, or is Wal-Mart just not selling enough of them? We picked up the coffeemaker for my MIL, along with a "My-Pod" so she can use any kind of coffee and not just the Senseo-branded pods, but it would be a bummer if they stopped making the Senseo pods right away. I'm tempted to go back and get some more for Christmas presents, but not if they won't be making the pods by then.
drmad7 Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Thanks! I tried to get one during the giveways with no luck. For $15, I 'll take a chance.
biomajor Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Pods/podmakers are here to stay. Even Folger's and Maxwell House make pods. I think it's more likely that Senseo has brought out a new model number that walmart is going to carry, so they are getting rid of the old ones. The Senseo brand coffees have even introduced new flavors in our market, so I think it's probably safe to buy them for Christmas if there are any left
Firemansgal311 Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Do all walmart stores carry the my pods because the coffee that senseo makes is crap imo. I need to get a few although I don't drink coffee I need to have some on hand for guests.
biomajor Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 I don't know about all of them, but the 2 near me do. I like the Melitta One on One coffee pods, but my husband likes the Senseo Dark Roast pods
kelly_jeanie Posted June 23, 2006 Author Posted June 23, 2006 Thanks for the info, biomajor! I just might go back, there were still 10 or so left. Firemansgal, good idea to have one of those just for guests, especially if you don't drink coffee.
kelly_jeanie Posted June 23, 2006 Author Posted June 23, 2006 Ok, I'm kinda dense, it took several hours for this to soak in. Are the pods interchangeable? Can you use the "Home Cafe" ones in the Senseo, for example?
scrabbler Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 The Maxwell House ones are (I thought) able to be used in either the Home Cafe or the Senseo ones. But otherwise, the Folgers/Millstone/Lipton pods are for the Home Cafe and the Senseo for the Senseo...and I think never the 2 shall interchange.
Great Dane Mom Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 Not to thread jack, but have you guys checked into the Gevalia pods and maker? I have one. I love their Breakfast Blend coffee.
kranky Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Has anyone compared costs of making coffee when using the pods as compared to using a 3-pound can of ground coffee?
biomajor Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 LOL no--It's MUCH more to use the pods, but since he doesn't drink but 2-3 cups on weekends, it's worth it to have fresh coffee every cup.
scrabbler Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 LOL...same way in this house. We liked the convenience of the quick cup of coffee. And alas, you pay for convenience.
kranky Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 OK, thanks - I guzzle it by the pot so pods don't seem to be the answer for me. :)
AndreaInNC Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Hey .. did you know there was rebate? Copied this from the online forum. http://www.senseo.com/en/SenseoUS/50Offer
mrn8 Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Did you guys know that there are refillable pods available on the market, now? When I found them , I almost bought a pod brewer, but I'm happy with my Bodum Santos vaccuum coffee maker.
happygal Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I found a fabulous double pod coffeemaker a few days ago a Sears on clearance. $19.99 for a Cuisinart! It was on an endcap and there were a few of them at mine. We got it for my mother-in-law and can vouch that it was GREAT!
