jaymacfla Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 (edited) We have all seen them, those little enticements to be on of the first in line. The proverbial bone, the holy grail of collectors who must have every year offered. I have my favorites, and it could be just about anything offered, even gestures of kindness count and stories of bad Black Fridays turned good by store clearks and managers doing the right thing are out there. Tell us of your favorite! My apologies for Misspelling Black Friday! I do not have seasonal Moderator privileges ......yet. Edited September 11, 2015 by jaymacfla
jaymacfla Posted September 11, 2015 Author Posted September 11, 2015 (edited) Here is a fond memory of Best Buy Black Friday 2004. It was the free Sweet Tracks tin with music and other offerings inside. You can see the mention of it on the adscan as well. The next year, they went cheap and it was a download only. Bad move if you ask me.http://s5.postimg.org/p4deoiuqv/Sweet_Tracks.jpg Edited September 11, 2015 by jaymacfla
momlori Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 I always liked the Target bag with snacks in it. Not to mention my Target used to give out coffee and hot cocoa to those in line in the early morning hours. 2
jaymacfla Posted September 11, 2015 Author Posted September 11, 2015 I always liked the Target bag with snacks in it. Not to mention my Target used to give out coffee and hot cocoa to those in line in the early morning hours.Exactly! CompUSA would always come out with hot cocoa for many years. Towards the end, they forgot what made them great and the rest is history.
magickallight Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 I liked the snow globes... think it was JCPenney that gave them away... but not sure. 2
jaymacfla Posted September 11, 2015 Author Posted September 11, 2015 I liked the snow globes... think it was JCPenney that gave them away... but not sure.JCPenneys is famous for that. They were also villified for discontinuing it and going with the buttons fiasco. They later succumbed to consumer pressure and brought them back. 3
riven3d Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 I'm not sure as I've never done back Friday before, but Black Friday on the other hand I really don't shop any of the stores that do the giveaways, best I've got was a scratch card from Bealls one year.
jaymacfla Posted September 16, 2015 Author Posted September 16, 2015 You caught me, but I am from the way back black Friday crowd.
Elmck Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 I like the gift card at Sports authority and last year we got a free chair too JC Penny did a $10 off last year unless you were lucky and got a larger one. Targets give away last year was yucky in my opinion. Steinmart usually have a scratch off in their ad that I use.
jaymacfla Posted September 17, 2015 Author Posted September 17, 2015 (edited) I have often heard of the prizes at pets mart. Can anyone offer information of the freebies that they received in years past? Edited September 17, 2015 by jaymacfla
riven3d Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 I have often heard of the prizes at pets mart. Can anyone offer information of the freebies that they received in years past? The last couple of years it's been a stocking full of freebies Cat and dog treats, a bone full of disposable bags, a booklet full of discount coupons
jaymacfla Posted September 17, 2015 Author Posted September 17, 2015 They are literally around the corner from best buy, and if the opening times align just right I wouldn't mind stopping by for my well deserved patrol dog.
riven3d Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 They are literally around the corner from best buy, and if the opening times align just right I wouldn't mind stopping by for my well deserved patrol dog. they dont open till Friday morning I believe at 7am, one of the few stores that still stick with tradition so they are a must stop for us every year. for me I am usually at Sam's Club shopping there so my family does the Pet Smart trip.
msyves Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I like the $10-$20 gift cards some give. I use them as stocking stuffers. 1
len_mullen Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Big Lots used to give away nice things, but I cannot remember a single one. Staples used to have a lot of free-after-rebate items (I still have a few hundred DVDs, four boxes of paper, and a copy paper box full of batteries). The only giveaways I truly treasure are from sites like this. I have received a number of shirts over the years that I pull out for November each year. The collection is rather extensive, spans many years, and a few forums. Let the giveaways begin! 1
1angelnhvn Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 We always lined up early for the free gift cards! Way back when....and the snow globes at Pennys!
jesusluvu Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 I like the $10-$20 gift cards some give. I use them as stocking stuffers.I agree the gift cards are the best. I us to collect the ornaments for Macy
bribri25 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 I was a big fan of JCP snow globes, disappointed with the buttons, snow globes came back but much cheaper make, and then they went to the secret cards last year. Since I won $100 with that, I'll have to say that was my favorite giveaway
smurfgirl Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 I love the snow globes from JC Penney and I lived all the different things Shopko used to give.
jaymacfla Posted October 16, 2015 Author Posted October 16, 2015 Where are Shopkos' located, and has anyone ever received a freebie from Meijers?
mcwalker Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 JC Penney snow globes, even though I only got a couple, and GottaDeal t-shirts. 1
Ladywolf Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Last year Radio Shack gave away a pair of touch screen gloves as a Black Friday freebie. Since then they have closed a lot of stores in my area, so I don't expect it again this year. A few years ago, we had an actual winter season here in Oklahoma and it was extremely cold the Black Friday weekend that year. I remember freezing in line at Home Depot, waiting for the doors to open, and the employees came out with doughnuts, coffee, and hot chocolate for us. I thought it was the kindest gesture and it lifted the mood of everyone in line. 2
AuntieJul Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Free breakfast at Sam's Club! It's not as big as it once was. At its heyday we grabbed bagels, granola bars, fresh fruit, and coffee for free. One time it was even Starbucks coffee. Oh, heaven. 2
jaymacfla Posted October 17, 2015 Author Posted October 17, 2015 Sometimes, it is the little things that make the biggest impression on the consumer. When CompUSA still cared, they gave out hot chocolate. Best Buy did this exactly........ONCE. I thought it would be interesting if stores gave out energy bars or energy drinks from companies that wanted to be associated with the holiday.
chachn8r Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 A few years back, while waiting in line at Target, the employees came out with samples of holiday flavored Cliff Bars. I believe that they had peppermint and pumpkin spice.
bluebear Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 My Home Depot has hot chocolate, coffee, and krispy kreme donuts every year. And a couple outdoor heaters towards the front for the people that have been out waiting longest.
