How do YOU online shop on BF?

I just have a question about BF online shopping. How do you checkout? Last year I woke up at around 5:30am and lo and behold Walmart.com had most of the things I wanted for the BF price. I'm just wondering do you guys: A-Checkout everything one at a time or B-Load your cart then checkout? I just have a feeling that this year WM is going to have great stuff online and I don't want miss out.

Ps: If a item is in your cart but you don't checkout right away(due to looking at other items), is it technically your item or is it possible it will get sold to someone else? Sorry for the long post lol

Not sure but I think items are not reserved even if they are in your cart. I had an elsa hoodie in my cart the other day that was in stock when I put it in. I piddled around for about a half hour looking and when I went to check out the item had changed to being out of stock.

If a store has a minimum free shipping limit (last year it was $35 at Christmas time at Walmart) - I will use my list and grab that amount - checkout fast and then go back for more. If the item sells out but is in your cart - you loose it on Walmart... Amazon is a different story - they give you an allotted time to check out with their gold-box deals - if you don't checkout before your clock runs out then the item is no longer yours.

Have your hot list ready, check out quickly, then go back for the things that will be there longer, like movies and such. Limited quantity items will most likely sell out quickly and sometimes the orders will still get cancelled. If cancellations are an unpleasant memory from previous years, perhaps you are online shopping at the wrong store. Best Buy had a nasty habit of cancelling orders and seems to have made great strides to repair their image in this regard. Be sure to check your WIFI connections, charge up your batteries, and have a wired connection backup plan if you choose to order from a mobile device. I would choose the wired computer scenario over WIFI in any case.

Now THAT is a game plan! Love it! :)

All of the above advice is great! I just wanted to also chime in about grabbing what you want as quick as you can and checking out.

The first time we tried online shopping at Wal-Mart, half of our selections were out of stock by the time we went to check out. We learned to pick out the most wanted items first and when we reached $35 for the free shipping, we would check out. Once we completed the transaction, we would go back for another $35 or more. It seemed to work out better for us. Either way though, everything seems to go fast!  :gdflower3:

And, make sure your payment preferences are up to date before the sale goes live. If an old credit card is saved in their system, it could cost you precious time.

It is also wise to let your financial system know that you will be making multiple purchases during the week of black Friday. If you shop online, then venture out, you could be headed for trouble if they decline your card in the store. I usually have a backup card loaded and ready to go. Paypal has a Visa card available and may save you in the end.

Get your gift card and credit card numbers entered in your account profile. Some good deals may not give you much time to complete the transaction. Usually some deals start a day or 2 before BF. If it involves a rebate, make sure the deal is eligible for that day you purchase.

This is great advice, as I would like to shop Walmart (and maybe Target) online. This would be my first BF online shopping

If you are going to try Target, you should wake up around 3:00am.  That is when it goes live online.  I always put my alarm clock for 2:50am and I'm ready to go by 3:00am.  I have the debit Red Card, so there is no minimum for free shipping.  I always get the items that I think will sold out quickly, then go back and browse for more.

We normally go into it with 2 different laptops, we split what we want from each store and both go at it. Reduces the amount of time it takes to get that order in. I usually have the CC numbers prepped (sometimes ready to be cut and pasted into place to speed up the checkout time. Using this method we have been pretty successful at getting what we want. If the order from a store is small then the other will take another store. We know to do it in smaller lots not try and put everything in the cart at some time (some don't show up till the last minute) and then checkout.

Just because you have the items in your cart doesn't mean they are saved for you.  You have to be quick checking out before things sell out.  I have had this happen in the past.  I have had an item in my cart, but by the time I checked out it was out of stock.

Best tip for online shopping is to stay up, if you wait for the site to tell you the sale is live you've missed the doorbusters.  Each store is different on Black Friday, prioritize the items.  Doorbuster that are store exclusive add to cart and checkout immediately.  If its a movie you may be able to price match.  Know your list and which stores, and have everything setup for a store, when it goes live close out everything you can and proceed to order quickly then browse the sale for anything you may want extra this gives you time to find the next sale before it goes up and you don't care if you don't get the other items.  As far as when the stores update, you'll just have to stay on top of the sale items.  Bestbuy in the past has done it in waves, the items that aren't heavily demanded items can be added first and then the rest get added in waves.  Basically your at the mercy of the person who clicks to update the sale price.  Even the projected starting times are just that projections, when your waiting depending on what store and how important the best tip is to refresh every so often, and just keep checking until its up.  Just think of doorbuster in store, but online your competing against everyone else in the world to click on purchase, so things go very fast.

I took the laptop to bed with me and kept checking the sites for the items I really wanted, like the laptop from WM last year. Got to sleep pretty late (or early am if truth be told) but got everything I wanted without having to fight the crowds. I've done it this way for the past 3 BF's...

  • 2 weeks later...

I use a laptop and a tablet to shop. I use the laptop for items I must have and the tablet for other items.

We were at Family house 2 yrs ago with no computer or Wifi.... had to use iPhone.  That was a beating!!!!  So much so my husband bought me an iPad incase we had to do the same thing again!   Laptop/Desktop is a lot easier when you are in panic mode! lol

CLICK, CLICK ,BUY!!! !  CLICK, CLICK BUY!!! ! CLICK, CLICK BUY!!! ! That is my motto. Click on it get it added and buy it on Black Friday. You might luck up and get on at midnight on Thanksgiving and catch a lot of deals.  I agree with the back up plans because the servers will be jammed packed

I watch Gotta Deal for sales that go live early in the week...loved Kohl's last year! I also try to ascertain a sale going live and get the page loaded, refreshing multiple times, and cross my fingers!  That was what I did for the boys' laptop last year. It didn't go live at the advertised time, took 10 to 20 minutes. They were hoping to buy a cheap laptop, and we managed to get it. I've found that I can't get my heart (or theirs) too set on anything because glitches and timing can spoil plans.

You've already gotten some great advice. The trick to getting everything you need is to get those items in that cart and checkout asap! I do as others say and log in before the sale goes live, and make sure my payment, and shipping info is all entered correctly. Another trick I use is, I open a window for each item I need on the site I am ordering from. That way I can just keep checking the item I need to see if the price has dropped without looking for each item during the sale. All ya gotta do is click each window and keep refreshing. (This doesn't work with Amazon lighting deals though, because you have to click the direct sale link for that price) This works like a charm on bestbuy.com. I've always received everything I have ever ordered. I haven't bought much from Walmart.com, however I did have a good experience last year. I bought a bike for my nephew and just picked it up in the store Thanksgiving morning. Edited by Kim3498
