Picked up one for Stepmother. She opened and it works fine. It does not have a CD rom drive which I thought I would need to link to her printer but I was able to download the drivers without it. It works fine but I wonder how everyone liked the one for the later sale that was $178.00.

I think so, I got one for Stepmom and she opened it and it works fine. How were you able to lay it away I thought Lay away was not available during the sale?

I didn't realize it didn't have a disc drive, my daughter might be annoyed lol but she REALLY wanted a touch screen which is why I didn't go with the one for $178. I'm hoping to open it tomorrow and check it out.
Forgot to add: My hubby did buy the warranty, still I hope it ends up being a decent laptop for what she needs it for.

google dead pixels. Sometimes you can massage them out by rubbing the area in a circle. If that dont work, go today and try to find 1 in left over in another store... Wishing you good luck.
Those that are complaining about no cd/dvd drive, you can order 1 that is usb connected.

Yes i read something like that im going to try this, and go back to the store and buy the warranty just for peace of mind. The CD/DVD drive does not bother me last time i used it in my old laptop was years ago, plus all the new notebooks coming out are getting rid of it. Consumes more battery power and adds weight.

i was considering the $178 laptop but read in other forums it was ookay. Im very satisfied with the touchscreen on the $278 one its pretty accurate and fast, did you buy the warranty?

I would buy a square trade warranty instead of walmart one. I bought 3 walmart ones last year and they send you a walmart gift card. I couldn't find the same comparable tablet at walmart and called them on phone. They did end up sending me a paper check instead.

No I did not get the warranty just the standard one that comes with it. I've never had a warranty issue come up in previous purchases. I use them until its time for a new one.

I got the $278 one too. I didn't realize it was the touch screen one. I don't know much about computers, but why would you need to have a touch screen? I guess I need to take it out and charge it and play with it a bit to make sure its all ok! Thanks for your feedback guys!

My brother: "someone bought the cheap laptop at Wal-Mart and just tried to dump it on my desk to fix, saying it was too slow."

Windows 8 is basically a tablet operating system. It can be used without a touchscreen but it VERY different for the average user of previous versions. It's downright annoying for the in depth user. A touchscreen simplifies it enormously.

we are on 8 on a non touchscreen and its not fun. I could see where it works wonderful on tablets....just not so much laptops
every day I eyeball my vista disc and have to withstand the temptation to wipe out 8 LOL

My dad had windows 8 on his laptop last year. It was horrible so I made sure I ordered a windows7 version a few months ago for me and hubby from DELL.... But the kids learn technology so fast I don't care avout that for them, lol

One of my DS's bought one and he likes it the more he uses it. Part of the reason he struggled at first is the windows eight.

I just gave the one I bought to my DD for her birthday today. No complaints yet. She hasn't even complained about Windows 8, which I personally hate. But she does have Xbox live and it looks similar to that (to me anyway)
