shopping4my3son Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Do you think the ads will be distributed earlier in the newspapers now that many of the stores are opening on Thanksgiving?
riven3d Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 doubt it, you might find the Kmart ad in the Wednesday paper or maybe even the Sunday paper but the rest i doubt will come out before the Thanksgiving paper, most newspaper companies have to pay the contractors(home delivery) extra money for the thanksgiving paper, if the paper would have the ads in them any other day then they would be in breach of contract with their carriers.
jaymacfla Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 With the advent of Tablets, you can download the ads to your tablet and keep them handy. I wouldn't absolutely say that the printed ad is obsolete, but it has lost a bit of it's prominence since digital editions are now at your fingertip. I love the printed ads, so I will be doing both.
jesusluvu Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 The last few years quite a few was in the Sunday paper the week before black Friday. I am hoping as well but I have already started making my list of what to get from which store. I stop taking the ads now and past pictures of what I want on my list.

I thought about keeping things on my iPad, but I don't think I want to take that into the store with me. I will have my phone, but I often forget to look at it before leaving the store. I love my notecards.
theboyzmom Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I doubt this year...but with the earlier and earlier trend it would only make sense if the holiday shopping starts earlier and earlier, the ads will eventually have to come earlier too
sleepster69 Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Just wondering since used to go out on thanksgiving morning and get paper for ads, when week they be I'm papers now? Wed and Thursday?
AndreaInNC Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Last year Walmart put their Black Friday ad in the Sunday paper. With all the major retailers putting their ads online already - it wouldn't surprise me if they all came in the Sunday paper.

mcwalker Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 (edited) I can see the split between Sunday and Thanksgiving Day continuing. A few of the ads have text that indicates that they will be in the Thanksgiving paper. I doubt that we will see any significant ads in the Monday-Wednesday papers. DLM Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 I have gotten quite a few in the mailbox poly bag "The Bag" with the weekly grocery ads. Usually walmart, big lots and meijers big ad as well.

pogiporkchop Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Now why would they put the ads in the Sunday paper when they can make extra money on a weekday paper?
mcwalker Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 (edited) Now why would they put the ads in the Sunday paper when they can make extra money on a weekday paper? The decision about when to place the ads comes from the advertisers (who pay for them), not the newspapers. The stores want their ads in the papers that get the widest circulation (Sunday and Thanksgiving Day due to special purchases). I don't subscribe to a paper, but have bought the Thanksgiving Day paper at a newstand ever since I started Black Fridaying. This year I will take a look at Sunday's and buy it if there are ads. pogiporkchop Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I know how it works, should've specified the question was rhetorical or that I was using a tiny bit of sarcasm. Still, it's good info to have out there for those who are curious.
speeddiva Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 My tiny local paper had Menard's & the other more regional one had Meijer's Thursday ad but that's it.
AndreaInNC Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 no BF ads in my Sunday paper .. but there was a small notice that Thursday paper would be $2 if you had to buy it because of all the ads.
rockpzazz Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 just as an update, no BF ads in the Kansas City Star, but they did have quite a few 4 day pre-BF ads. Also had a few holiday inserts like recipes and such.
mcwalker Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 None in the New York Times, just pre-BF ads.
jesusluvu Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I had a few in the SC paper. Walmart, Freds, Academy and a few more.
