Gloey Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Ok, I work for two attorneys, one of which JUST started a couple of weeks ago. I know etiquette says you don't have to do anything but I suppose I should get them each a little something. Any suggestions? Oh, BTW, last year there was another attorney I worked for that is no longer there. The day before Christmas one of the other secretaries practically ordered him to get me a gift...he did alright, $15 worth of McDonald's gift certificates. Sheesh!
Guest all2tired Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 How about a nice GottaDeal hoodie? LOL
laffnatu Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Sorry.. I can't be any help on this one. We always get our boss a gag gift.
shopping mom Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 I would not go overboard. A nice pen set, a fruit basket, or a tray of homemade goodies. My cousin and her husband are lawyers and they always want homemade fudge. I saw some great recipes in another thread.
orangedaisy Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Definitely some type of food. Especially if you don't know them well, you probably have no idea what they would like as far as gifts go. I got this catalog in the mail yesterday for The Swiss Colony and they have some really really nice holiday treats to offer at great prices.
sheshagirl Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 What about a gift set from Sams or Cosco? They always have nice stuff. Or a bottle of wine.
ShawnainKY02 Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Food is always good. This year, I have got my boss a candle set. I also have got lotion sets for the other girls in my department. Hope this helps.
geomacey Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 gift certificates are always good. I've worked for a few attorneys... one year we got them something from Omaha Steaks, one year mall gift certificates, one year restaurant certificates ... nothing elaborate, but thoughtful....

ajburlingame Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 I am a secretary to 12 people. I was thinking of bringing in a pretty container full of cookies to each of them.

cami_reardon Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 I only have one boss and this year the team got together. We are each giving 5.00 (we'll have 120.00) then going to buy a GC to her nail salon (30.00 for a fill), her hair salon (25.00 for a cut and 40.00 for a color that she always gets) and a restaurant wrap it all up in a nice little basket with some lotion/body shampoo, throw in a couple of free movie tickets and present it to her. Kind of like a girls' day out that's all paid for. We have her best friend as another supervisor in our building so we just asked then called the places to find out how much it would cost. That way we could determine what to have each person contribute.
alimfp Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 I think homemade brownies or cookies would be nice. :)
Gloey Posted November 15, 2005 Author Posted November 15, 2005 I think homemade brownies or cookies would be nice. :)hmmm, you must not know my slogan: "The only reason I have a kitchen is because it came with the house."
Princess7915 Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 I would see if you could find out a fav. resturant especially if they are married. Or one year my boss gave all the employees 2 sets of movie passes. Those were fun because then we could choose what we saw and have a date night.
carone0318 Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 I am another vote for homemade goodies. I make Christmas bark and fudge that I give out around the holidays to my co-workers including my boss. If I felt that I had to give an actual gift I would vote for a Christmas ornament (as long as they celbrate.)
CG480 Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 I guess it depends on what your boss likes. I know as a group we are getting stuff for my boss's pool room. (pooltable). It is his one room in the house. But to tell you the truth I like to get him a new backbone so he learn to stand up for himself when it comes to him wife... ok time for me to shut my mouth.

kalle1212 Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 If at all possible ask your coworkers to chip in and get the boss a gift certificate for a nice restaurant.
lannii777 Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 I work two jobs. Both bosses love scratch-off lottery tickets. Just a thought -- Happy Shopping!
