It's funny to see the old technology & the incredible prices we used to pay... http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Happy/woohoo2.gif 133Mhz Packard Bell computers, 100Mhz laptops for $1,799.99, cassette car stereos, ancient cell phones, 28.8Kb/s dial-up modems for $99.99, conventional tube tvs, cassette and CD Walkmans, VCRs for $99.99 and up!!! http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Words/wow2.gifHow about an 8X CD-ROM drive for $149.99!?!? http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Words/wow2.gif http://www.iheartchaos.com/post/10489506835/best-buy-ads-from-1996-look-like-they-might-as-well It's also interesting that the appliance prices haven't changed much at all (except for microwaves)... Note, this isn't a Black Friday ad at all... I just thought you'd get a kick out of it. http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Happy/birthday_kangaroos.gif
stationchief Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Ah, good ol' Pentium One single-core PCs. Those were the days. To think this was about when I first started building PCs on my own.
ClosedAcct Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I still have the Magnavox boombox on page 10. But at least it's the "garage stereo"....the one in the house is much nicer and much more current.
SuggaD Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 thanks for the trip down memory lane!!! I remember my first computer, a Packard Bell for like $2000, and we thought that was cheap at the time given the other choices. Now, I would never dream of spending even half that for a computer. Also loved seeing the cell phones and the pagers. lol All the cool people had pagers and no one I knew had cell phones. lol
gatorburg Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Anyone have any older Best Buy ads? or Walmart ads?
jaymacfla Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 It just goes to prove what I have been saying all along. We are still living in the age of cheap electronics, and high quality. That trip down memory lane when the alleged best deals were had was just relative to that place and time. Computers and Laptops are more robust and have much more capacity and staying power than the E trash that was to be had with rebates. people will complain this year as well because they want something for nothing.
TazErase Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Wow... my kids don't even know what a cassette tape is, lol. In that ad they had cassettes for $6.99, lol. Can't believe a 13" picture tube tv with vhs for $299??? lol Loved seeing it. Just think how this years BB ad will look to others in 15years? Scary huh? lol
staviles Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Wow, Sir Mix a Lot and NWA for only $11.xx....those were the days..lol...not to mention the pagers which my kids still can't believe we had...the concept of not being able to instantly message someone whether by cell phone, IM or Facebook instant updates is so foreign to them...lol..can't believe those "were the days"..lol
bigjimslade Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I still have my NWA albums :) Wow, Sir Mix a Lot and NWA for only $11.xx....those were the days..lol...not to mention the pagers which my kids still can't believe we had...the concept of not being able to instantly message someone whether by cell phone, IM or Facebook instant updates is so foreign to them...lol..can't believe those "were the days"..lol
amood06 Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Wow me and hubby just went down memory lane. I can't believe how much things have advanced and become more compact. Nowadays they want everything to fit in your back pocket.
jaymacfla Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 [video=youtube_share;7_dru75IIbo] Here is a great video showing how far we have come since 2003 with price comparisons!

stationchief Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 What if someone took the ads as they come out this year and compared the items to what was offered for BF years ago? Would YOU wait in line overnite for a 128 MB MP3 player or a laptop with 1.2 GHz processor and 256 MB of memory ?
tinkrbel Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 What if someone took the ads as they come out this year and compared the items to what was offered for BF years ago? Would YOU wait in line overnite for a 128 MB MP3 player or a laptop with 1.2 GHz processor and 256 MB of memory ?LOL....I think many folks walk right pass that stuff at garage sales/thrift shops on a daily basis:) I remember back in the mid 90's you could get to store 20minutes before opening with little to no hassle/competition(around here at least).
Marcster Posted September 25, 2011 Author Posted September 25, 2011 I love the $99 discman!I have one in the basement... I probably paid $60 for it and it takes 4 AA batteries.
freesia39 Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 LOL I was just showing my husband the ad, and he's giving me a lecture on how inflation is calculated just by looking at these ads.
noehlp Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 LOL I was just showing my husband the ad, and he's giving me a lecture on how inflation is calculated just by looking at these ads. Lucky, lucky you! Gotta love lectures!

PurpleRain Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 look at those cell phones! wow, and to think we thought those were high tech. I think my android is spectacular now, It makes you wonder what we will have in 10-15-20 yrs!

kboyts Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 I bought my first discman with my high school graduation money in 1995. Paid $179.99 for it (a RCA model) and it was the best thing ever hooked to my car stereo with a cassette adapter lol.

laddhorn Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 We should post a link to this ad whenever someone posts the "This year's ads suck" comment. It really puts into perspective how much electronics have come down in price.
