Well if you wanted to do a cake you could just make one yourself (alot cheaper than buying one). Maybe some snacke like pb&j sandwiches, pretzles, stuff like that is relatively cheap. Maybe if you have some kids christmas cds or even if you have any tapes (does anyone still have tapes anymore). And if you dont have any kids x-mas music it would be a good investment as you could just let your kids listen to it every x-mas season. Maybe come up with a few games to play.

The schools here don't allow any sort of homemade treats--everything has to be storebought, so they can verify on the label that there are no nut products in them, for allergy purposes. I'd go with mini cupcakes rather than full size ones, if you can find them. The kids can do holiday-themed art; you could print off some free coloring pages from online for them. I'm really not sure what to have them do that will keep them occupied that long LOL--I will have to think and get back to you on that. Hmm.

Maybe you could have them do some kind of craft activity. Making snow flakes was always fun as a kid. All you need is plain white paper and some scissors. Or you could have them make ornaments for their x-mas trees. All you would need is some construction paper, some glitter, some string (to make a way to hang the ornaments), maybe some markers, or whatever else you could find in a craft section of the store you shop at. As a matter of fact the classroom may already have some of these items. You might could make cut outs of wreaths, trees, or something else for them to trace onto the construction paper, which they would later cut out and decorate.

Do you have any Freecycle sites that are near you? Maybe if you post a "Want" for some craft type items you will be able to get them free.

One year I bought a roll of twine, a package of bells and some beads (cheaper plastic ones) and the kids got to make their own necklaces. They boys enjoyed this as well as the girls. I found some plastic Train beads the boys went straight to those and added some bells. I have a HUGE spool of Twine if you would like me to mail you more than enough to make these. Then all you would need is the bells and beads or whatever else you would like for them. These were really easy to make and really no mess!

the round headed clothes pins (old fashion clothes pins) brown paint, hot glue and small wiggle eyes and red pom pom's turn them upside down. the "legs" are antlers the rounded part is the head ( reindeer)

Since you probably wouldn't want them doing the crafts while they are eating snacks. You could have them watching Frosty the Snowman while they eat. Run time- 30 minutes Rudolph is probably too long, it's 55 minutes.

Oh yea those are really cute, easy and fun to make! Great Idea!:yay:

You can make really cool snow globes using baby food jars. They are cheap and easy to make and the kids just loved making them! :holiday10 You can find the directions on any kids holiday websight!

i was thinking like 2 or 3 crafts and couple game so we could have like staions .. group of kids travel from one to other so they are not all doing the same thing at once.. to keep it a little more under control.. and yes everything has to be store bought nothing home made.. they have changed rules so much from when i was a kid my mother used to make things for school but we can not do that anymore

I would keep the crafts simple. Coloring at one table...maybe decorating pre-cut snowflakes with glitter (many little kids are not that adept with scissors) at another table, etc.

I was going to suggest the snowflakes too! LOL. In fact, just yesterday during lunch I cut out some eight sided and six sides ones to take home and then have my GD cover with glitter to hang on the tree. Another craft I thought about doing was buying some CHEAP tea light holders, you know just the plain glass ones and then putting glue and glitter on them. Everyone can use a tea light. IKEA has them for .50 each but I bet other places have them too and you can buy the candles pretty cheap.

divide into two groups. one group will do one of the activities and the other group will do a game like "The Grand Prize Game" like on bozos circus for the buckets you could use big coffee cans covered in red n green contac paper.they would win maybe a christmas pencil or some other little thing and a few christmas candies

I cant remember where i saw this but. you use pipe cleaners and red and white beads that are kind of snowflake or star shaped. its the easiest project ever and fast. you just put them on a pipe cleaner with a knot at the end and go red/white red/white then shape it into a cane. here is a picture i found through google..

Here are some cute ideas I found at "Family Fun" magazine:

Games

You Could Even Say It Glows

Forget about joining in any reindeer games! With our pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey-style contest, Rudolph gets to star in his very own--the perfect party game for one foggy Christmas Eve. Those red dot stickers from the office supply store make superb reindeer noses, although Rudolph is likely to get a terrible case of the measles on his way to schnozzdom.

WHAT YOU NEED:

Pencil or marker

Construction paper

Scissors

Glue stick

Poster board

Blindfold

Red dot stickers

HOW TO PLAY:

1. Sketch a simple outline of a reindeer on construction paper, cut it out, and glue it to the poster board (or your kids can simply use a marker to draw Rudolph directly on the poster board). Remember to leave Rudolph noseless!

2. To play, hang the picture on a wall, blindfold the kids one at a time, hand each a red sticker, and let them try to restore Rudy's shiny proboscis.

Santa's Helpers

Wrap it up and tie it with a bow, one-handed, in this entertaining competition.

WHAT YOU NEED:

Party favors

Box

Wrapping paper

Tape

Yarn

HOW TO PLAY:

1. To set up, put out two party favors, one box, a sheet of wrapping paper, tape and yarn for each pair.

2. Each team must race to wrap the favors in the box and tie a bow. The catch? Each player must hold one hand behind his or her back, an impediment that makes it necessary for partners to communicate and work together. The first team to finish wins the gift. (You could leave out the gift-part)

I have done this for years with my kids....just make sure that it gets sprinkled outside and not inside like my son did years ago!!!! That was one heck of a mess!!!!! Carrots work great too!:g_dance:

You have a little note to attach to this. Ours Normally says.

Magic Reindeer food.

Sprinkle this reindeer food on your lawn on Christmas Eve Night to guide santa and his sleigh safely to you home.

Our 2nd grade kiddos (3 or 4 classes) are all getting together in the auditorium and watching Polar Express. Apparently they did this last year and it was a HUGE hit! Very low key and the kids had a blast... they all came to school in their PJ's that day, given "tickets" that they had to turn in as they boarded the "train", and one of the teachers dressed up as the conductor, passed out cookies and hot chocolate. At the end of the movie, as they were all leaving, they all got a small box with a bell and ribbon in it. I'm looking forward to attending this year's party!

Oh I was afraid they were going to start doing this. I am hoping since I live in a small town it won't happen here...but you never know.
