Don't really need a new one but might be tempted if its under $300. Please please don't buy him a cheapie $399 - $499 laptop because it just won't cut the mustard. Make sure it has at least an Intel Pentium-M or AMD Turion CPU and has a dedicated video graphics card. All of these cheap laptops have integrated video graphics. I know you want the best deal (don't we all) but a cheap laptop is a cheap laptop. I've priced laptops he needs and they'll be $2k easily. We both build computers and repair them for friends/family. I just want another laptop to toy with. Thanks!Not likely. I don't know what version of A-CAD he would be using, or what the exact specs are. However, it will probably need a higher end system to run well. This may be the cheapest laptop, but it is also one of the slowest. It is not going to have the processor or video to run the more intense software like CAD. If you can find out what he is running it on now (processor speed, memory, video card &memory) or look up the requirements on the software box, you could tell for sure. HP had the parts in it manafactured in China so they could sell it cheap. You get what you pay for. A buddy of mine has the same model and it crapped out on him a month later.
