  1. I had about 20 rebates last BF; several from CC. I kept a list, was very careful to do everything EXACTLY as it said in the instructions, and made copies of each rebate I sent in. I got every one back. Some took a long time, but none were much longer than the amount it said on the form. I think most people who don't get rebates back actually mess up a tiny detail. Maybe I'm wrong, but I am very detailed and have never had a rebate lost. However, if you don't have the full amount, I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't want the $20 sitting on a credit card for 2-3 months while you wonder if your rebate is coming back. The interest costs cut into the amount you are getting back, and the stress is not worth it.
  2. Not likely for two reasons: 1) The BF laptop will probably have a special model number even if it has the same specs as another one they sell. They will not price match unless it is the exact same item. They do this to keep the BF items separate and to keep quick thinkers like you from working the system. 2) You have to go to the Customer Service counter to do the price adjustment. On BF the Customer Service counter will be used as a regular checkout until noon (when the special price is over). They do this to help the checkout lines move faster and...to keep quick thinkers like you from working the system. In the past people have done this, but the stores are catching on. I was succesfull on that last year at Staples on some small items. I tried to do it on CC's laptop as well, but it didn't work. I knew exactly what model was going to be on sale from the leaked ads. I went to the store a couple days early and acted like I was browsing cluelessly. I found the BF laptop model behind glass under the counter and told the sales person "I want that model." They had no idea what they pulled out of the case and would have sold it to me, but the computer gave them a price of $9,999. Obviously I wasn't going to pay that, so they called a manager over who said, "Sorry, we are keeping those until Friday." Busted! So I came back at about 9PM Thursday night and I was first in line.
  3. You can definitely connect your HTPC to this monitor with the VGA connection or the HDMI connection. The HDMI would be better, but if your HTPC just has VGA that will be fine. For PC use, though, I would suggest a 1080p monitor if it's not outside your budget. You will get higher quality video output from your PC, and better resolution on whatever else you do on the computer. The 1080p monitors by Westinghouse are 37", 42" (not the one on sale), and 47". They get mostly good marks from the discriminating HTPC crowd at AVSforum. Since it looks like no 1080p monitors are on sale, I am probably going to sit out this BF (at least as far as waiting in line all night.) If only that $999 42" was the 1080p version.....
  4. GG is "Good Game" HH is for Happy Hour (or Hogan's Heroes?) I'm not a CC fan either after last BF. It's really the management at my local store. They had no plan for crowd control. I haven't been to BB in this city, but every other one I've been to has been good.
  5. Be VERY carefull! At that price difference, it's probably a different model number, and you will miss out on the deal. Also BB's Customer Service counter is always used for regular checkout until noon, so they won't let you price match. But if you are missing Sears anyway, it couldn't hurt to try.
  6. Speedstacking has been around for several years now. Maybe the sets they are offereing now are new, though. I agree that this will probably not be a BF deal item.
  7. Go to http://www.speedstacks.com/WhereToBuy.html?hover=%5Btype+Function%5D&rollout=%5Btype+Function%5D&pressMe=%5Btype+Function%5D The sets are just under $30 from everyone online, including the official store. Wal-mart might be cheaper by about a dollar.
  8. No. Wal-mart (and everyone else as far as I know) will only price match dollar amounts. So 3/$100 on a normally $50 item will work, but not the b2g1. You could always try at the register, but don't count on it if that's really what you want.
  9. Thanks for the info! I just called the same number and cancelled mine. They did say I was under a 12 month contract, so I MIGHT see a $20 cancellation fee. But I was gonna get another $14.95 charged in a few weeks anyway, so I decided it was worth the extra $5 not to have to call back. Maybe I'l get luck and not see any charge. You get to keep your email access, not that it mattered to me. I just checked and I have 7 new messages, all from AOL. :)
  10. I guess you are talking about actually assaulting you with their fists or something worse. Unless they are talking to me while they swing, I cannot be expected to assume that they just want an item. For all I know they want my wallet or just want to hurt me for fun. If someone is a danger to me I'll defend myself, but that would probably start by dropping whatever is in my hands. I'd also have to stop if I thought the person was no longer a danger to me. You can't really argue self defense with an Elmo in each hand while you stomp on someone's head. If you are talking about someone just grabbing something from my hand or cart and running away, all I can do talk to Security about it. There is nothing they are doing that justifies attacking them. They are not stealing from me since I haven't bought anything yet. I would probably try to get the item back by using Security and management or otherwise make their shopping trip miserable. I hate to see other people get what they want by being rude to others. I don't know though. I wouldn't want to mess up the rest of my own trip. Is that a long enough answer for you?
  11. My first BF expedition was about 8-10 years ago. I got a 19" monitor from BB for around $150-200. (I've long forgotten the exact price.) This was when most people still used 14"-15" screens and a 17" was considered big. I'm still using that monitor on my home computer today. The laptop from last year is great, but I don't think any of our $149 computers or $199 laptops will still be in use ten years from now.
  12. I'm so jealous! I tried the exact same thing, but they wouldn't go for it. Once they saw the $50 regular price they figured something was up, so they made up something about the price not applying to all the games in the picture. Even got a manager over, but I couldn't talk them into it. I felt bad for all the people standing in line behind me while this went on, but that was a $40 difference in price! I still haven't bought SWBF2.
  13. The store I went to in Austin did that. They had to after the fire marshall showed up one year and kicked everyone out for being too crowded. Most stores are pretty scary if you think about it. If there were a fire a lot of people would probably die, mostly by being trampled.
  14. I hope Wal-mart does better than that. I've already seen some 32" HD LCD's in the $500's.
  15. Yeah, I was looking for those, too. Completely illegible on the scan. If anyone could get those to us it would be great. I want to return/rebuy some of them.
  16. Good summary! Can anyone read the item ID's for the Office Max FAR's? I want to return/rebuy them.
  17. Looks like there is one at TRU also that will be $20 on BF. The link they have has poor reviews at Amazon.
  18. For a toddler??!! Buy the $10 one from Radio Shack...or buy 10 of them. Who cares if they break it? You have 9 more. It's only a toy.
  19. Anyone know what the dimensions of the Toshiba are? I can't find them on the web site.
  20. I bet that is not the dock included in this package. The description says "camera dock" not "printer dock." Kodak sells another dock for about $50 that does the recharging and file transfer but does not have a printer. Since the printer dock is $150 at Kodak.com, I doubt the it would be the one included at this price.
  21. Not likely. I don't know what version of A-CAD he would be using, or what the exact specs are. However, it will probably need a higher end system to run well. This may be the cheapest laptop, but it is also one of the slowest. It is not going to have the processor or video to run the more intense software like CAD. If you can find out what he is running it on now (processor speed, memory, video card &memory) or look up the requirements on the software box, you could tell for sure.
  22. When did other people start getting to Best Buy?
  23. The Xbox 360 is replacing the "normal" Xbox. It is a faster, better system. Eventually no more games will be made for the current Xbox system. Just like Sony moved from Playstation to PS2, and Nintendo moved from NES, to Super Nintendo, to Gamecube. So it just depends on whether you want the best games being made in the future, or are happy with the games that are out now. There are two versions of the XBox 360. One is $299, and the other is $399. Please, please, PLEASE do not buy the cheap one. The more expensive version includes a hard drive ($99 seperately), wireless controller, extra cables, remote control, and Xbox live (online). It will also play existing "normal" Xbox games. The cheap one has none of those options, and since it has no hard drive, you will need an additional memory card ($40-$50) to play any games. Also, it will not play any of the regular Xbox games, since they require a hard drive. So the price diference is really only about $50-$60. If you are spending that much money on the system plus more on games, what is an extra $50? You might as well get the one that will work the best for you down the road. I bet if you get the cheap version, you will end up buying at least the hard drive at a later date, so it will end up costing you more money in the long run. Of course if the good version is gone, and you CANNOT wait to get one, go ahead with the cheapo. Just make sure you get the seperate memory card. I'd hate for you to open that up on Christmas Day and not be able to play.
