Christmas trees. Real or fake?

:holiday07I prefer real trees, the beauty the scent. We almost always had real trees while I was growing up. I loved going out as a family and picking out the perfect tree.

Now we mostly decorate a fake tree. We purchased it for $19.99 at Target a few years back when they were 90% off after Christmas. It's a beautiful tree, but it isn't real. :)

We did buy a real tree last year and it was beautiful. I thought about buying another real tree this year, but I'm just not sure I want to spend the money on it.:hert:

So what type of tree does your family decorate each year? :holiday07

DH and I always have a real tree! I grew up with real trees only, same as hubby. We go to the same nursery farm down the road and we buy a something fur (Can't remember at the moment)...the branches curl and are soft. We pay $55 for our tree, and never have more than a handful of needles the whole time its up!

I grew up with a fake tree and had no idea what I was missing. Since I have been married (21 years) we have always put up a real tree. A big fat one lol. I love the smell of the tree and the adventure of finding the perfect tree. Hopefully it will remain a family tradition with my three children as they grow up and have families of their own. I haven't really had a problem with the mess ( knock on wood). We go to the tree farm the day after Thanksgiving, walk around for hours lol and find "our" tree. It goes up that night and we take it down around the 6th of January.

We buy real trees. We always get the 6'+ Douglas firs at Lowe's, they really aren't that expensive, and if you water it, it does not really shed much, and they smell so good that they are totally worth it. It is a family tradition to go and look at all the trees and pick one out. Hubby says they are coming in Monday of Thanksgiving week this year, and since Wednesday is my youngest dd's birthday, it sounds like a great day to pick out a tree to me :yup:

we used to have real trees usually from home depot selection but a few years back we bought a fake one at target after christmas sale and we've stuck with it since. I'm considering when to put it up and with what as Bella has never had one unless she did at breeders/intended home and I'm worried what she'd do. She's a very curious dog and where the tree normally goes we have a sofa she loves to roll her toys under. I'm worried what ornaments would be safe FROM and for her.

Due to space limitations we usually have a fake one, growing up we always had real. The boys have had 1 real tree, about 3 years ago and my youngest wants another. If I get one, it will be a live one as my tree in the front yard died this year. Got it from Publix after Christmas when the boys were small and it grew into a beautiful tree. Miss it a lot...

Fake. I grew up with fake and that is what we have always done. I picked up a new one 90% off last year, so we have a prelit one again! Last year our old "prelit" tree only had 2 out of 6 strands of lights working, so we strung whatever was in the box on the tree and ended up with an "interesting" looking tree. All of the lights we used were multicolored, but they were different styles. One stand has multiple blink options and my DS kept turning it on so that we had one stip on the tree that blinked, but the rest stayed on. Well the kids loved it and that's all that really matters, right?

Always a real tree...although it always kills me to pay so much for it. I am going to try not to even think about it this year..I am just going to find a fantastic tree. My little girl has a small artificial tree in her room though. We put it up (at my insistence) the first week of December and it comes down on Dec. 26! Our house was so dry last year that it was kinda yuck by Christmas...but this year I am going to do more to preserve it.

Due to allergies & hives that got worse each year, it's been a fake tree for sevaral years now. All of the allergies I had as a child I grew out of or they don't bother me as bad, except for Christmas trees of all things. I even start sneezing if I go in to Bath & Body works and they have a pine candle lit that day, even if I just walk past there.

We always use a fake tree... I grew up with a real tree that the whole family would go up in the mountains and cut... but after having my first child I realized that the real trees made me sick... that explains the need for so many cold meds at christmas...( I thought my parents may have just wanted me quite) lol I miss a real tree but not the constant runny nose and head ache.

I used fake as it was a hassle with a real one and the city had goofy trash rules on when they would pick it up. Living here it will be none of the above. Ummm $150 for a small fake tree that comes up to my chest? Ummm no just no... Then again not like I have space to have a large one.

I am so glad I asked this question. It was nice to hear about everyone's traditions.

We are still contemplating a real tree. :) DH has a busy couple of weeks coming up so we would first have to find time to get one together.

If we do not get on I'll definitely have to pick up a Big Dipper Pine scented candle. They smell so good, as close to a real tree as I have found and they are naturally scented with pure essential oils. Their Noel and Cinnamon scent are quite lovely too!

Yeah, I couldn't figure an economical way to send you a small fake tree. But if I figure out a way I will do it....

As a girl,we traipsed the stripper pit hills of southwestern Indiana to find a good tree. Daddy would haul it back to the house.

It smelled like Christmas :)

We have an artificial tree in our house as we go OOT after Christmas and a real tree just dries up and is painful to take down after days of no water.

I always try to bring in the smell of a real tree by purchasing a real wreath or swag.

That way,we kind of get the best of both worlds.

Maybe I'm scarred by my stepfather taking a live tree and nailing a tree stand into the bottom of a live tree every year (by the end of the holiday season, the damn thing was always a tinderbox; how our house didn't burn down is beyond me), but I really prefer a decent-quality artificial tree. There's no needles to clean up, and our cats are far less inclined to try and eat it.

But "pre-lit" trees are lame. :)

LOL thanks! I found a few stores have the fake ones painted neon blue or hot pink or bright orange! I told my co-workers that seems just wrong. They said but it's cuter than a boring green one!

My friend who is Jewish and her DH is Catholic has compromised that last several years. Knowing that her kids were grown she did not need to do it all anymore for the holiday season. Now she takes out the Menorah and wraps the bottom with garland and hangs a few ornaments on it. Her mother came over and nearly had a heart attack:D

My friend feels hey I will probably end up in Hell but at least I will be with friends. She calls this her Menorah Tree

I think that's pretty funny, but I'm sure her mom isn't laughing. ;)
