ALL discussion about CVS deals, coupons, and promotions for the month will take place in this thread. Please do not start a new thread, as they will promptly be CLOSED and you will be directed to post in the new thread.

Welcome to the joys of CVS Shopping! Here are some quick details to help you out:

What is the CVS Extra Care Program?

The CVS Extra Care program is CVS’s shopping card. You can sign up for a card in store or online at https://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/cvs/gateway/registerextracare?LOGINMSG=XTRACAREMSG

With this card, you will have access to their weekly and monthly sale prices. If you do not present your card, you will not be given these sale prices or qualify for the Extra Care Bucks rewards.

The greatest benefit of this program is the Extra Care Bucks portion.

What is an Extra Care Bucks?

Every month, along with every week, CVS runs sales on particular items where if you buy that item, you will receive a coupon at the end of your receipt with Extra Care Bucks (aka ECBs) that you can use on your next purchase.

For example, let’s say Garnier Fructis shampoo is on sale for 2.99 with $2.00 in ECBs. This means you will have to pay the 2.99 upfront for the shampoo, but at the end of your receipt, you will receive a $2.00 ECB that you can use on a future purchase at CVS. It’s like you only paid $0.99 for a bottle of shampoo!

At the end of each quarter, CVS will also add up all your spending, and give you a rebate in ECBs based on your spending, which is 2% of the total amount. That’s EXTRA money just for buying items at CVS!

Can I use manufacturer’s coupons?

Certainly! Using the example above with the Garnier Fructis shampoo – there are regularly coupons for 1.00 off your purchase of one (1) bottle of their shampoo. The item will ring up at 2.99, then you can use your coupon for 1.00 off, so you wind up paying 1.99 for the item. You STILL get the $2.00 ECB reward – so it’s like getting it for free!

Wow! Can I do this over and over?

Unfortunately, there are limits to all the sales. Check the weekly ad and the monthly sales books for the limits. When we post the sales here, we will also list the limits.

Can I have more than one CVS card?

The answer in general is no. However, if you have access to another address/name/phone number, you may be able to get a second card.

What about prescriptions?

Whenever you fill a prescription, make sure the pharmacy scans your card! Each prescription is 0.50 in ECBs that will be paid out at the end of the quarter.

Can I use the ECBs I earn to pay for prescriptions?

Unfortunately, no. They can only be used on store purchases.

CVS and Coupons

CVS has a great coupon program. When you sign up for your card, make sure to check that you want CVS to email you coupons and offers. This will put you on their mailing list for future coupons!

Most of the CVS coupons are for a certain amount of dollars off a minimum dollar purchase. For example, to start, CVS will email you a coupon to save $4.00 on a $20.00 purchase.

When entering your store, look for the CVS card scanning/price checking machine. Scan your card upon entry every time for additional coupons and incentives! Sometimes it's 3.00/10.00 of CVS products, or something FREE!

Stacking coupons - I am sad to report the end of coupon stacking, but you can read the details below in the spoiler.

Please note, your store may have a different policy regarding the stacking of coupons. IN ADDITION CVS has not been issuing as many e-mail coupons as in the past. Most stacking has been done via CRT coupons, which are the coupons that are generated at the end of your CVS receipt, or from the card scanning machine (if your store has one.)

Always make sure you give the cashier your CVS card to scan before you get to the total and start handing over coupons to make sure you get any sale prices.

CVS will sometimes have coupons for $3 off a $15.00 purchase, or $2 off a $10.00. The theory regarding CVS purchases are:

Your PRETAX amount is 30.00. You have a coupon for $4 off $20.00, $3 off $15.00, or $2 off $10.00. Hand to the cashier the coupons in this order:

1. The $4 off $20.00 coupon

2. The $3 off $15.00

3. The $2 off 10.00

As long as your total is more than the amount on the coupon, you can keep using coupons.

NEXT, give them your manufacturer coupons.

FINALLY, give them your ECBs.

Hopefully by this point, your out of pocket (OOP) amount is a small number. It may not be at the start, but with constant shopping and deal searching, you’ll build up a good amount of ECBs to use on future purchases.

We have come across some stores that will not allow you to stack their money off coupons unless your total equals the amounts of the coupons. For example, if you want to use a $4 off $20 coupon along with a $3 off $15 coupon, some cashiers may say that your total must be $35.00 before you can use the coupon. This rule varies from store to store and from cashier to cashier. We cannot say that CVS will always stack, because the policies are always changing.

What do they do about B1G1 (buy one, get one free) coupons? I have 2 coupons for the B1G1 covergirl lip product. If I got 2 lip products and used the two coupons would I get both for free or do the B1G1 coupons ring stuff up for 1/2 price?

CVS rings up the first item at full price and the second item rings up free. So if you have a BOGO free coupon, you would get both items free.

PLEASE NOTE: YMMV (your mileage may vary.) Some stores may not process it, some cashiers may be confused, but in general, the above should happen.

How to use your ECBs

Please note that you cannot use your ECBs:

- on pharmacy co-pays

- on the purchase of gift cards

Also, ECBs are tied to YOUR card. You will not be able to use the ECBs that are earned by other people. You must also present your card in order to use your ECBs.

Please note that your ECBs do have an expiration date and to be mindful of it. If they do expire, you may be able to have customer service reactivate them. Please contact CVS customer service at 800-SHOP-CVS.

ECBs can only be used on the PRETAX amount of your purchase. If your pre-tax purchase is 3.99 and you only have a $4.00 ECB, you will not be able to use that ECB – you must use smaller denominations.

I bought something that comes with ECBs but it didn’t print out. What gives?!

Check to see if you had previously hit the limit on the offer. It will print on your receipt. Also make sure you bought the correct item or version of the product. If you had not hit the limit, please contact customer service at 800-SHOP-CVS and they will add it to your card to print the next time you are in store.

THE GROUND RULES:

1. Post your experiences shopping at CVS, the deal combos you have found, and the unmarked clearance/ECB deals you have found at your store. Also post your general location if you are comfortable.

2. Do not post links to non CVS authorized coupons. They will be edited out. Authentic CVS coupons come from cvs.com or are located at akamaitech.com.

3. Keep non CVS chatter to a minimum. This is first and foremost a deals discussion. Anything going too far off topic will be deleted.

If you have links to printable coupons for items on sale this week at CVS, also post those for others to share.

Play nice!

  • 2 years later...

I did the IronMan dvd deal. It was a huge nightmare. Thank goodness the cashier was very patient. Apparently there is a coupon that is suppose to print, but mine never did. Even though I bought my $25 P&G, nothing reflected on my receipt. But the cashier did some kind of override to take the $15 off the dvd.

No toothbrushes - but got my raincheck!

I went in to CVS to get my summer extra bucks. When I scanned my card, I got $5 coupon off any halloween costume tomorrow (10/5) only. This week the costumes are 25% off. I bet there are more :)

Ok so I went today and bought my son a costume that originally was 14.99. It was on sale for 11.24 and I had my one day only $5 costume coupon, $3 and $2.50 EB coupon. I paid .79 for the ninja costume. :):):)

I got a whole $1 in summer bucks, I think that's the lowest that I've gotten yet.

Well, I got .50...does that mean I win :)

Spent ALL of my bucks instead of rolling this week, plus about $20! Found lots of clearance 75%, school and $ day. Plus a few summer that didn't go with the rest. & some as seen on TV stuff.

All of a sudden, my favorite CVS lost it's manager and 2 favorite clerks...now they're being super vigilante about coupons...oh poop!

My favorite manager is gone here too, there's a new guy. I think the lowest is the winner :)

Friday, I got a 2nd $5.00 off Halloween coupon. I used them on a tube of 40 glow sticks, plan to give them as Halloween goodies. They were 3.99, and the can is small, so I'm assuming those are some pretty small glow sticks. 3.99 a can, then I added a .99 jumping spider to get to $5.

Today, Monday, I got a coupon for .99 off Brach candy corn, made it free, and $1 off 2 M&M, which the clerk said was for the 2/$1 single size (I don't think it was, but it scanned with no beeps) so they were free, then she asked where was my Dove one--it was the same deal so 2 for free and no beeps. The other clerk said she got the Brachs one yesterday so they may come out when scanning this week for everyone. The 1st clerk was telling everyone to go scan & get their free candy.

Looks like MM toothpaste this week-I didn't get the Colgate yet as I didn't have coupons along---just ran in to pick up an ad. Oh, & I didn't see this in the ad, but the CVS brand 2 liters had a buy one get $1 buck, making them free, limit one. Seems like I saw one other free after bucks...don't remember what it was though.

Found the large count (6-8 count) RubberMaid Take A Longs marked down 90% today at CVS. Not marked, but were in an unusual space (not with the other food storage containers) so I scanned them and was pleasantly surprised. I know that I saw coupons in the paper (maybe last Sunday?) which would have been really sweet, but I didn't clip mine. Oh well, still happy with the purchase. Containers were originally 5.99, got them for .59 and the drink bottles were .63, originally 6.39. Also, the candy was .09 (90% off .99).

I was headed out to CVS-good thing I checked this thread first!

Unfortunately,my store did not have a single thing you showed but I scored a Zhu Zhu pet lunch box for .79 (90% off) so I was happy. I got the free candy corn also.My store had several odd items marked 75% off: a hanger for the back of a door and also a 4-sided clock and a rolling shopping cart. Even for $2.49,I couldn't think of a possible need for them in my house.

I could see the sign for some small boxes of chocolate chip cookies for nine cents (90% off) but no cookies. That was about all I could find that I wanted. This was in an area at the end of the Halloween aisle at my store.

Thanks txsupermom for posting a pic. Lately I seem to be using CVS as a time filler if I just have a few moments before picking one of my kiddos up at various times and places around town! After my fun little 90% off lotion find, I've become determined to scout some stuff out while mulling around the store. I found a ton of candy for 9-19 cents today.... boxes of Raisinets, Sweetarts, bouquets of lolly pops in addition to what was pictured above. All of it was in the candy aisle just sitting there. I'm sure the clerk thought I was rather strange as I started scanning everything. I also found some of those Rubbermaid Take Alongs, only the ones I found were round little cups with twist off lids... very cool (5.99 down to 59 cents). It really becomes like a scavenger hunt. I feel like I'm 10 years old. It's more fun to find things hiding in plain sight, although a lot more difficult.

Anyway, I went to another store and all their fun candy was scanning at 75% off.... still a good deal. Just didn't feel like paying a whole big quarter when I just got it all for a dime! LOL!!! Also got a bunch of those Icee Slushie Pops. I bought 2 boxes last year at 90% off and my kids LOVED those things, so I stocked up a bit more this year.

I also found Pringles cans for a quarter and fruit snacks/fruit roll ups for 75% off. A real flurry of activity this week in the stores I hit. Must be sort of a big reset for the stores in my area??? Don't know the magic behind which store marks down what and how much. They all seem to get to the same things just at different times.

Do you guys have scanners like Target and Walmart have? I keep seeing people say they scanned something that wasn't marked.

*nodding*

My smaller CVS' have one scanner, the larger one has two, one at each entrance. It is the same machine that you can swipe your Extra Care Card to get coupons or ECB's if you have any coming to you since your last register receipt.

You guys are so lucky! I have never seen anything clearanced at my 4 CVS's except for holiday stuff. And I go there about 2x a week. Do you guys have scanners like Target and Walmart have? I keep seeing people say they scanned something that wasn't marked.

Like Gator Pam mentioned, scan the machine the first thing when you come in the door. You never know what will pop out. Today I got a coupon for .99 off a bag of Brach's candy corn which was selling for .99. So that was one free item right there. Then I mentioned my 90% off finds. Unlike Target,CVS' deals will likely be right in the aisles-I basically go thru each aisle of my little (closest) 24-hr. store to find deals. They are not usually in one certain spot, although today, the meager remnants were at the end of the Halloween aisle in my store.

I have "Deal Eyes" and they automatically spot a 75% off or more sticker ;)

Too funny! Whenever I get something at 90% off, the 75% sales seem a little too pricey for my taste!!:cheesy:

I am so glad to see others were able to find some hidden treasures. If you didn't, don't give up! Holidays are coming, and the clearances always get really interesting.

Ohhhh! I did not know you could scan items. I thought that was just for the extra care card to get your coupons and ECB. Thank you soo much.

Try scanning some of the dollar items (usually located in bins). Got dishtowels, 3 pack dish clothes, hand towels, bendy straws, 3 pack plastic cups with seaside type designs and all the back to school type items (dog paperclips, cat paperclips, highlighters, 2 pack carbiner clips, etc) for 90% off. Everything was ringing .09. Also found small bags of goldfish crackers originally .99 ringing .09 each. Expiration dates are 12/11/10.

Wow, I was already planning on going before work tomorrow morning, I'm going to have to get up even earlier now to make sure I have plenty of time to go on a scanning spree.

Another thing that was hidden in plain sight are these bags of Betty Crocker Scooby Snacks. They are a larger size "snack bag" not the box of individual pouches, but they are purple and look like this.

Got several bags for a quarter each.

I went to a different CVS today and they didn't have any of the clearance items txsupermom posted nor any that I got at my other store BUT I found 2 boxes of the Soda Pops freezer pops for .29 (90% off) and I got 6 cans of sour cream and onion Pringles 4.9 oz. size for .09 (90%) so I was happy.
