8truths
What do folks think will be the best deal on a high-end laptop? By high-end, I mean a Core i7 or an AMD quad core. I was looking at a Staples ad this week with an i7 for $749. Seems like BF ads should at least match that, right?
Scott
I have no idea what will be the best high end deal... I'm looking for a portable (13") with a midrange iCore processor. Long battery life and descrete graphics are a plus... But I think I'm living in a dream world... I'm sure they will concentrate on 15" laptops for most of the deals. stationchief
I'll be lookin' for a 14-15" full size mid-range laptop for myself. Hopefully I'll find it online to avoid the BF camp out.
tinkrbel
I'm starting to think I should have a clue what I want by now and have no idea
Elmck
Were the laptops offered online last year for BF?? Mine died last night, so unless it is an easy fix I will be looking.
8truths
There were some reasonable dual cores last year. And I recall a few i5s. I don't specifically recall an i7 offered by anyone. But, this year was the first year that retailers have tried to push the i7 laptops at all to anyone besides the usual Alienware and Sony customers who buy the top-flight everything. bluebearyh
My daughter also uses her $199 one daily for school. My other daughter bought a new Gateway, and has had several problems. She winds up using the $199 emachine as well. It has been extremely reliable, even surviving young grandchildren's attempts to use it, LOL! Jen8112
I'm on my HP I got last year at Best Buy about 2 weeks before BF for $429 and it's still running awesome. I thought my desktop was fast before I got this! This year I might have to shop for a new desktop!
SuggaD
I want a dirt cheap laptop that will last me 3-4 years (or even more). My 2006 doorbuster Best Buy laptop was great. Unfortunately, the power button no longer works and I have to boot it from the quick play buttons, so I figure, before it completely dies, I should replace it with something similar. $279 was a great deal for that HP! I got my money's worth. Something comparable will be good enough for what I use computers at home for.
Jen8112
Walmart is having a Compaq, 15.6 in screen, 2g RAM, 250 hard drive, Intel Celeron processor and Windows 7 Home Premium for $288 on Saturday. For anyone looking. Pretty good deal! :)

jhaferm
I need two laptops. Two years ago I bought the Compaq at WM at the same price they are offering it for this year AND a Dell 3GB for $399 from Best Buy. Well the motherboard went out on the Dell about a month ago. That was my daughters. She will be 14. I need one to replace hers and I need one for my dd 11 as well. I am thinking about the Compaq for my dd11 and maybe something better for my dd14. I really don't know. I cannot do BF though so I need a deal before then and I hate going somewhere when they only have a few available. I just don't have the time with all of my kids. I do know I don't want another Dell. I have heard a lot of people complaining about them lasting. I am thinking HP or maybe Acer. I was even considering a netbook for my dd11 but I got one for my dd9 and I'm just not sure if one would be enough for my 11 year old. She is in middle school and has a lot of projects and uses powerpoint a lot. Any opinions would be a huge help.
slinkster65
Any opinions on the ones WM and BB have this coming weekend? I need one to get me through the rest of this semester sicne the one I have now is just about ready to die from how slow it is to boot, other issues. I am graduating in Dec so after that it wil mainly just be used for very basic stuff like internet/email/maybe some Microsoft stuff since I have a desktop to do any "heavy" stuff. nick_jenni_jocelyn
I was wondering if this one is a good one? I am thinking about it as a santa gift for my dd who will be 8. she will go on educational websites and play games, for the most part. http://www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/product.jsp?productId=prod1990115&navAction=push

Jen8112
Link still didn't work but found it with the item number. IMHO, wait. There will be better deals than that. No way would I spend $280 on a netbook for my 8yo. I will try to post the link. Nope posting URL doesn't work. Wonder if it's a Sam's Club thing? jhaferm
Thanks Jen8112. I am going to try to get the WM one tomorrow. I'm just not sure about my dd 14. She needs something powerful but I can't spend a lot of money. I have 5 kids and money is tighter this year than ever before
Jen8112
Thanks Jen8112. I am going to try to get the WM one tomorrow. I'm just not sure about my dd 14. She needs something powerful but I can't spend a lot of money. I have 5 kids and money is tighter this year than ever before I got mine last year pre-BF at BB for $429. It's plenty powerful but I personally wouldn't spend that on a 14yo. I'm sure the one at Walmart would be fine. BTW, you said the more expensive one died so why wouldn't you go with the cheaper one again?
jdrd90
Any input on the laptop that is going to be one of the "gold box deals" here in about 15 minutes on amazon.com? No tax and no shipping charge sure is attractive! lol It's for my 13dd.
slinkster65
That deal on amazon went quick. Looks like it was basically what WM has Sat.
jdrd90
It went REALLY quick lol I think it is the same deal, just without paying tax or shipping. Oh well, I was too slow for that one lol
beis
I would definetly not recommend any Toshiba laptop. We had ours for about 6 months and then the hard drive completely died. It was under warranty, but the customer service at Toshiba is awful. They have had our computer for 3 weeks and we still don't know what if anything has been done. When you call them they just tell you sorry I can't help you or sorry I can't find out what they have done, etc. I read a whole lot of reviews elsewhere on the net and found out I'm not alone when it comes to Toshiba laptops failing and problems with there customer service. Anyhow we are looking at maybe getting a Sony, or somethng else a little nicer. Looking for a midrange priced one. Anyone think that there will be any like that on BF or is it going to more of the low end ones?
ObiRich
No doubt that several places (BB, Staples, Office Max, Office Depot) will have mid tier laptops. Most likely they won't be doorbusters, and not the big discounts like on the low end doorbusters. Personally, I've been looking at some that currently go on sale for $499 (I'm partial to HP laptops) and hoping they are around $450 or so on BF. Looking for dual core, 4GB, 320 (min) HD, HDMI, webcam and n wireless.
jhaferm
Well Jen8112 I thought about what you said about being happy with the lower price laptop so why not stick with that for my dd 14. So, I went to WM this morning and bought two of the Compaq $288 laptops. One for my dd11 and the other for my dd14.
