Thank you. That is so sweet of you to say!

 

I am a bit nervous, I've never made four books at one time. My Mom just drove in from Ohio and she is going to help me! :) Gotta love mom's! We are going to a craft show this weekend and I hope to find a unique piece for each book. I really think the books will be great for my MIL's grandchildren to get to know her. I know she would want that.

Great thread as I NEED craft ideas for the kiddies!! Snowmen they can do. I like the marble magnets but the instructions are impossible to understand and where can I get those marbles? Not here.... :( unless someone wanted to ship me a bag or two... ;)

 

What else can Japanese kids do? It has to be safe, I do NOT have an oven so no baking, it has to be something they can do in 10 to 15 minutes tops. It also has to be something easy to explain or demonstrate. My Japanese is limited and their English is a work in progress.

How many kids are we talking about. Keep meaning to ask that... Need to know for future endeavours anyway.

I have 40 older kids that can do a craft. Ages are 8 to 16.

 

I have 52 little kids 1 to 7 who are cute but crafts are just coloring.

So 92 in all, gives me an idea for candy canes from your other requests.. For the little ones, do you have access to a copy machine for reasonable prices (that way you can copy pages from a coloring book and still have the book for future years...).

I'm in to genealogy so one year I made everyone in my extended family a book, complete with pictures and a tree. That was a big hit.

 

Perhaps something like a photo album- maybe it's called a memory book?- with some pictures and little stories about each one.

Ok, my husband just glanced at my computer while I was reading the directions for the magnets and he thought I was looking up recipes. When I said oh no, getting craft ideas for Christmas he was like ohhh noo....already?? Haha, he should really know by now! I was thinking of getting the cards I bought last year out to start addressing!

 

Anyways, those magnets are definitely a must do for me this year- that is so cute! And I have never made the applesauce/cinnamon ornaments so this year it will be!

 

I made the tile coasters last year for my sister and she loved them! I wish I took pics, but I forgot! I found the info in this same thread last year.

 

Basically you purchase the tiles from Lowe's or Home Depot. I got the tumbled kind- they had a nice worn look. I printed out pictures of her children onto vellum. Then I printed out the phrase "live, laugh, love". I used glue to glue the pic and the phrase to each tile. After you let it set, cover the entire tile with modge podge. After that is dry, glue cork to the backs- which I found at Hobby Lobby. The glue seemed to seep through the vellum just enough to see the texture from the tile and they looked really vintage. They were great!

 

 

 

Did you find the directions for this on a website last year. They sound adorable. I think I might make them for gifts AND for myself.

Yes about 92 in all but I would say about 15 of them are way too young to have candy and such things.

 

Yea I have access to a copy machine it is 10 yen a copy.

Someone posted them here last year- I just did some searching and came up with a few sites that have the same idea. I just tried some different paper and I like the cork better than the felt- they look nicer I think.

the first site also has some easy craft stuff like pumpkin masks that you make from paper plates and yarn-- need crayons and scissors, you could cut the holes if needed. THere are pages for every holiday so you could do American Thanksgiving as well as Christmas, easter etc. Just print from your browser.... :) Will still look for coloring books, etc but this might help for Halloween as well as Christmas for the younger kids

I'm thinking of making a rag wreath for my MIL and maybe my Mom too. There are two different styles that you can do. One you make on a wire coat hanger and the other is more full and done on a straw wreath.

You can either do them in holiday colors or maybe just some nice colors that will match their decor so they can have it hang year round.

We do these wreaths using white trash bags so they can go outside. When I was little I made about 10 one christmas. Last year I did one for my mom's gravesite. Great to do while watching tv.

We used pictures from magazines-and ended up with some very pretty necklaces that were made from part of a picture of a dress, or a cool purse with a butterfly on it, a surfboard design etc. We'll be making some more using Christmas paper. I didn't buy the glossy accents, but they are still very pretty and the kids love them.

These look really cool. I might get the stuff to make a few for my mom and niece, etc. Just something for everyday type stuff. Mom is almost 79 and doesn't really want a lot anymore, we are giving her an exercise class as a Christmas present but I want something under the tree....

I kept thinking I was going to make at least one of them,but I saw the thread too late and ran out of time.

Did you take pictures of yours?

What all did you put in them?

 

The neat thing about that idea was that you could use it anytime of the year.

My goal this year is to do some painting on glass. I have the paints and glassware but don't have a clear idea of what exactly I want to paint but once I find it,I'll be ready!

I didn't take pictures-I wish I had. For the teachers we used some bath and body products/hand sanitizer, candy, Christmas figurine. For the teens we used bath and body stuff again, small stuffed animal, a gift card, candy. just some fun stuff-- if it was lined up it wouldn't look like much, but inside the bottle it looked very festive and fun.

I also did the bottle things last year, my dd teacher LOVED hers, ds teacher didn't say anything about hers I hope that she liked it but I'm not sure. I put a candle, pad of paper with their inital on it, wall flower,hand soap, I am not sure what else but it was PACKED! I am planning on doing a cooking one for dd 4k teacher this year and then the candle, sanitizer, wall flower, lotion, for her teacher aid, and the same for ds teacher..I was thinking of even doing one for the bus driver with candies and then a gc to kwik trip.

Still yet to find a printer that works with my USA windows version. I might get one in a few weeks? I dunno...

 

I have no Modge Podge here and unsure if the washer idea would work with the kiddies. I'll run it by them next week.

 

The 2 litre bottle idea might work good here. I just dunno what I could put in it or have the kids put in it?

A couple years ago the kids and I made calendars for everyone. We bought them at Oriental Trading Company. We made the bigger wall calendars that came in a package of 6 for 1 money. I don't see them anymore. But, I found smaller ones in packages of a dozen and also these "photo" ones but you have to buy them individually.
