Black Friday laser printer deals

Last year there were several Samsung laser printers for $39.99 and free shipping(Newegg.com and Staples). I saw some color ones for $100. They are ok, but there are more expensive ones that maybe better quality. It depends on how much you want to spend .

Woo Hoo!

Death to InkJets!

Do you want color or B&W?

What is your budget?

Do you need network capability?

Just to let you know my Mom bought the color laser printer at Staples last year and you couldn't print photos with it. I would stick with an inkjet, Kodak's ink is a little cheaper.

It really depends on what you use your printer for.

No, most entry level laser printers... even color, will not really do photos. But then again, the consumables are MUCH cheaper on laser printers.

When I need to print photos, it is much cheaper to upload them to a photo service and have them printed that way. Plus, you get a true photo, on real photo paper. Not an inkjet photo which is much more likely to fade with time.

OK folks, need your opinions. I'm done with inkjet and tired of being screwed on ink prices.

Am thinking laser printer.

Any suggestions/recommendations for a laser printer on Black Friday?

Thanks!

Last year on BF we got a Brother laser jet from Staples. LOVE ITTTT!!!!! A year later and I've still never replaced the toner! And I print atleast 5 full pages of black text 5 days a week :)

I think the last I checked we has printed over 2k pages. close to 3k. Toner is extremely cheap. I purchased an extra cartridge of it a few months ago from inkjet superstore for only 27 dollars. Yes, you can't print pictures on a b&w laser jet...but that's pretty much a given...Staples has one just like it onsale on BF again this year. 89.98

Questions

I dont print pictures from my home I just use printer to print coupons, school work for kids, occasional win affidavits to get notarized, online orders to be picked up at stores, stuff like that. Would a laser printer be best for me? I buy generic ink off ebay I usually pay between $20- $30 for 2 color and 3 black cartridges, so I am not paying alot for ink, that usually last me a year. Most my color is used from cleaning the heads because I dont print often at all and they have to be cleaned because of that. My printer wont print if I am out of color, it doesnt even have a black only setting, aarrggg. My old printer used to let me pop the cartridge out and pop it back in to make it think I put a cartridge in but this one has chips on the back so I cant do it, but this one is about 10 years old too, lol.

How much does ink cost for laser?

Do the printing heads need cleaning like ink jet?

Yes, If I were you Laser is the way I would go. Like I said in my previous post I got the exact same Brother Laser printer from Staples last year on BF that they are having again this year on BF for 89.98. The toner is very cheap, if you shop in the right place. They have toner cartridges for this particular model Brother on www.inkjetsuperstore.com for less than 30 dollars. I believe thay're right at 27 dollars. We've used the heck out of the Brother we got last year on BF and still haven't had to replace the toner! As I also stated in my previous post we're almost at 3k pages of black text just out of the toner that came with it! That beats the heck out of ink! =) No cleaning printing heads either!

I don't want to print photos.

I'd go for a color if the deal was right.

Can I get a decent color laser for less then $150?

It's going to be used as a home office printer. We retired this year and I lost access to my laser printer at work.

No network. I just hook my laptop up to it when I need to print.

I'll check that out. Any opinions on the HP printers in that ad?

I have a B&W laser printer for my normal B&W printing. I then have a high-end color HP inkjet printer for photos. I like my set up. Since I don't print photos everyday, ink prices aren't a problem because I only change the cartridges maybe once or twice a year.

Below are the links to my printers... both HP's and hooked up through the network to my Mac's.

HP Laserjet P1505n

HP Photosmart Premium TouchSmart

When purchasing a laser printer, be aware that some have the drum and toner cartridge separate. Many have chips that determine how many pages a cartridge has printer and if the cartridge is OEM, as well. Konica-Minolta is like that, for sure. ($89 for toner. $139. for drum. The drum needs replaced every third toner change.) I don't know which others.

I do know HP does not do this. My BW LaserJet was $61 on eBay and cartridges run around $40 and last me, for a small business, 6 months. I bought an HP inkjet all-in-one a few months ago when my fax died, so I have both. It's (in huge letters on the box) claim to fame was that ink was cheaper than laser. We'll see...
