How do I prepare? 1. Make a list and check it three times. Make a map of the store locations (because I am often traveling out of state to a new location many Black Fridays.) 2. Never enough.

1. I didn't come for a TV, but if everyone else wants one, i want one too! 2. Target "team members" we are about to let the "guests" in. Smiles everyone! 3. Got my TV and they smiled at me in Target, now it's time to take a nap until the next set of "doorbusters."

As others have noted, these are not the "major" stores and I think most of these have not been open on Thanksgiving day. It will not be as meaningful until something changes the aggressive attitude of those major retailers. Still, nice that these stores show some concern for their employees and preservation of a day of limited commercial activity. As I have written before, I think that (almost) all stores should be closed all day Thanksgiving (midnight to midnight at least). Moreover, I think that online retailers should not start any sales (price reductions) during those hours--they could drop prices before midnight if they like or just wait until midnight Thursday night. There are plenty of days in the year (364) for people to shop and plenty of days for employees to earn some extra hours. Opening Thanksgiving does not increase total sales or contribute anything to the economy that would not happen on other days and we got by just fine without much Thanksgiving shopping for more than 200 years.

I will help out with some ad posting and error checking again.

Brad, I was wondering if GottaDeal could set up a "Wish List" feature connected to the typed listings so that we can ask family/friends if they can identify specific Black Friday things they are interested in?
-
Search "NFL", "NCAA", and "Team" in the search box at the top of GottaDeals Black friday site and you will find some items at various stores.
-
I wonder whether a store would let you go in a couple of days early, get the fabrics cut and set aside for you to pick up and pay on Black Friday (at BF price, obviously). Maybe if you got to know the manager or a person who works the fabrics. Their concern might be that you would get things cut and not come back, but you might be able to do it. Can't hurt to ask.

It doesn't bother me, and as Brad mentioned, it means that we get clean well scanned ads without somebody's watermark on them. Now, if they would just issue pre-typed text lists along with the ads!
-
They still have the Scunci elastics free with online coupon, which I always pickup for stocking stuffers. The rest looks pretty ordinary. They used to have a page of free after points items, but that is all gone.
-
The K-mart ad says "All portable power on sale," but does not specify discounts except for the one in the ad.
-
Target Best Buy Walmart JC Penney Kohls 3 pharmacies (for freebies) sometimes Sears especially if I am looking for tools (not so much this year)

It won't change my spending this year. I am already trying to cut back a bit. I wouldn't expect the economic effects (whatever they are) to hit until next year, and especially a few years from now.

In 2012, only two "minor" ads appeared on Election Day (11/6): Rite Aid and Sam's Club. Both were scans, not released by the stores themselves. In 2008, no ads were posted on Election Day (11/4). We have already seen more than a day (election eve) without an ad, so lets see if any unofficial copies get out today.

Maybe Black Friday will be on Black Friday this year? Nah.
-
I like JC Penney for Black Friday, and their coupon giveaway at the door, but I am very disappointed that they would open at 3:00 PM on Thanksgiving. That opening time is especially rude.
-
News will continue to be dominated by the election Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. If they are looking for press, they would wait until Thursday. But hoping one or two drop anyway, if only to lessen the crunch for typing listings later this week.

Serious question regarding service dog on Black Friday (UPDATE)
mcwalker replied to Illinoismom's topic in 2016
I think it is wonderful that if your daughter enjoys Black Friday, you are making the effort to maintain her opportunity to participate. With regard to the rush when doors open, in general, with the earlier Thanksgiving openings, I think the rush is somewhat reduced, though certainly not eliminated. I don't know much about seizures, but one question is whether certain conditions (such as the rush at the start of Black Friday) might increase the likelihood that your daughter might experience one. In that case, don't try to be near the front of any lines. My inclination would be to say, by all means, take your daughter along if that is what she wants. Be sure to have proper ID to indicate that the dog is a service animal, as the disability is not readily apparent. Family first. Shopping second. (Black Friday with Family: Priceless) -
I recommend the GottaDeal My Shopping List feature. It is under the FEATURES heading on the main GD Black Friday page. Just click on items and they are added to your personal list (with prices). We have already done the typing for you! http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/ShoppingList

I have a pile of the 20% off coupons (and $5 off coupons), so the fact that they are only valid on one item is irrelevant...I just buy one thing at a time. I find the whole store overpriced by about least 20%, so that explains the prevalence of those coupons.

The McAffee LiveSafe for $5 is a good deal. I have been using this for a few years.
