  1. Don't know about other stores, but I did this at Sears a few years ago. Bought the only one of a Blueray player in the small town store on Wednesday, talked to the manager, and came back with the receipt later during the Doorbuster hours on Friday to get the price adjustment. It allowed me to get the only one of that item in the store and to hit other stores first, then come back to Sears later (but during the Doorbuster hours) to get the refund.
  2. At Rite Aid through Saturday 11/22, get a $10 UpReward for each $50 that you spend on Best Buy gift cards, limit two UpReward $10 offers per "household" (i.e, per Wellness+ card). If you expect to buy anything at Best Buy on Black Friday, get these now to "save" an extra $10 or $20 after UpRewards. Or just give the BB cards as gifts! A similar deal appeared a few weeks ago.

  3. I received my shirt today in New York, along with some tattoos, calendars, and a coin purse with a little something extra inside. Thanks, Brad! Here is proof: http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/af182/mcwalker59/DSC02364-10.jpg
  4. Reports today that a group of workers plan to protest in front of 1,600 Walmart stores on Black Friday for a $15 per hour wage and consistent work hours. It sounds like these people will march or protest in front of stores--it is not a general strike that would be likely to hamper operations in the stores. Here are some news reports: http://www.businessinsider.com/r-wal-mart-workers-to-protest-on-black-friday-group-2014-11 http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2014/11/14/Walmart-workers-at-over-1600-locations-plan-Black-Friday-strike/3601415994619/?spt=rrs&or=1 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/international-business/us-business/wal-mart-workers-plan-black-friday-protests-over-wages/article21587510/
  5. I think it is a disgrace that they will even be open in the morning. Although I don't agree with stores opening at 6PM, at least that allows people to prepare for a Thanksgiving lunch and then go to work. This just isn't necessary given that most of their competition isn't opening until the evening. While I do regularly find something useful at Radio Shack on Black Friday, I don't shop there very often and I agree with others that they are just not responding to the market well. The fact that they have some many store locations could be an asset, but they just don't make it work well.
  6. I typed up the ad yesterday and researched some fuzzy items on other sites. The consensus is that a $100 purchase is required on the Gap/Old Navy cards and $50 purchase on the Home Depot cards. I have been buying the Home Improvement cards each BF for the past couple of years to get that deal (though it appears that they have changed from "Home Improvement" which are good at any home improvement store to Home Depot cards this year.
  7. I have a similar question / issue. I expect to get one or two new phones for wife (and maybe daughter) for Christmas, which I want to have wrapped for them Christmas morning, but I do not want to deactivate the phones that they have now when I buy the phones (even if they are the same numbers on the same Verizon account). I hope that I can at least buy them and return on the day after Christmas to activate them (or maybe activate online Christmas day).
  8. For stocking stuffers, check the items that are free after rewards points in the Walgreens, Rite Aid, and CVS ads. These will tend to be better for adults and teens, but some may be suitable for smaller kids. Some candy items you might be able to open and wrap individually to fit in an advent calendar.
  9. Disappointed that there is no "free after rebate" antivirus software in this or other ads, as I have made a ritual of getting that each year on BF. Hoping that Staples will have it, but skeptical since this one does not.
  10. Beats headphones are also offered in the Target and Gordman;s BF ads.
  11. Chinese celebrate "Singles Day" on November 11. Apparently it is a big day for discount shopping, especially online with Alibaba. Here is a news report: http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-11-11/singles-day-why-chinas-online-shopping-holiday-wont-come-to-u-dot-s
  12. For me, this is the best ad so far. I definitely expect to go to JCPenney this year (and possibly do some online shopping with them). Note the offer to get a $25 coupon (to use later) when you buy $100 in gift cards. They had this last year and there was no line at the one location they had set up to sell these in the store I went to. I bought the $100 in gift cards, then immediately used them to make purchases that day, so you can get the extra $25 (25%) and still apply other coupons and deals (or use the gift cards as gifts, if you prefer).
  13. I am not usually one that joins the annual "the ads just aren't as good" chorus, but this year I am generally disappointed with the ads, including this one.
  14. Do you think that Rite Aid might have another ad just for the three days (Thanksgiving to Saturday) as an overlay to their weekly ad? I can't remember whether they did this last year, but I recall some pharmacy doing it before.
  15. Here is a view of the map as it stands now: http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/af182/mcwalker59/GDBFshoppers2014-11-08.jpg
  16. I have placed markers for everyone up to this post who indicated a town name but had not marked the map. We have 36 markers now. I put markers just above the town names, not necessarily the particular shopping area. Check it out to see if anyone from GottaDeal is shopping near you. If you want to move your marker, click on the marker, then the pencil icon in the box that appears. You can then drag the marker and edit the other entries.
  17. Only 20 markers on the map so far, much less than last year. Let us know where you'll be shopping! https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zUnZpeEjK4QE.kevV7NlX0Y9c
  18. Yes pretty annoying, but understandable from the retailers point of view. They want to keep you in their stores, or at least bring you back. One advantage might be that you can focus on the items that you want in each time, where as if they all go on sale at the same time and run out, you are less likely to get to many items.
  19. I was out and found that things quieted down by around 2 or 3 AM, then probably pick up again around 9 AM. While you would miss some hot items, I think that for those that want to avoid shopping on Thanksgiving, going out either at midnight or at say 5 AM could be a good strategy.
  20. The Kmart ad has some Lego sets on pages 1, 24, and 32.
  21. Two options: 1. We will have most of the real BF ads within 10 days, so you can probably wait until most ads are out and check against currently available prices, then buy right away if you can match the price. 2. If you are diligent, you can buy now if you think the price is right, but return the item if a lower price appears. But you have to pay attention to shipping and return requirements if you order online and you have to continue to check prices and make the effort to return the item, get stuck with the price you paid. Stores count somewhat on the fact that once people have bought something, most people stop checking prices or don't bother to return it if a lower price appears.
  22. I have looked at the BF sales on Furniture in the past, but generally found that the discounts were not better than other sales at these stores. I do recall seeing the Room 2 Go gift cards as an unusually good deal and as far as I know, only offered on BF (or BF weekend). I have never bought them though. Since we are so close to BF now, there is no harm in collecting some current adds and waiting to see how the BF ads compare. Don't assume that just because a salesperson tells you they are having a special BF sale, that this means anything--most furniture sales people work on commission.
  23. Where are our rocky mountain and west coast shoppers? (and Alaska?) Make your mark on the map!
  24. I have replaced the link to the map in the original post above. Hopefully it will work for you now. (It may come up a bit differently for me since I am the owner, but I hope that it will work for others now.) I will know when I see others put their markers on the map. Here is the updated link to the map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zUnZpeEjK4QE.kevV7NlX0Y9c
  25. What area will you be shopping in this Black Friday (or Thanksgiving)? I replaced the link to the map below after the 17th respondent. I have created a Google Map, at the link below, where you can place a marker to show where you will be shopping this Black Friday. - After you click on the link, the map should open in a separate window. - Zoom close in to the area where you will be shopping. If its in a large metropolitan area, try to find the shopping area where you will start shopping. - Click on the "upside down teardrop" in the menu on the map to place a marker, then click on the center of the area where you plan to shop. - Enter your GottaDeal Forum name in the top box where it says "Point ##". - If you like, enter some additional information in the box below. - Your entry should save automatically when you click elsewhere or leave the page. Here is the link to the map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zUnZpeEjK4QE.kevV7NlX0Y9c Please don't delete or edit anyone else's points. Have fun. See if any other GottaDeal neighbors will be shopping near you.
