  1. Today, I begin the quest to replace my kids' cell phones. The current phones have the touch spot at the bottom of the screen and we are a little apprehensive about the current models. The iPhone 7s we now have are four years old. The hardware and battery have enjoyed longevity 25% past expectations We are AT&T customers, but are looking at Verizon as an option as well. I am looking at the iPhone 13 for my first born and an iPhone 12 Max Pro for his brother. I will monitor this thread for phone and service reviews and recommendations as well as info about ongoing and upcoming deals.

  5. First shopping day of the new week... Grapes $0.77/lb Eye Round Roast $2.77/lb Green Giant Frozen Vegetables $0.99/7-10oz package Green Giant Canned Vegetables $0.99/14.5-15.25oz can Smoothies, Jerky, and Sides covered. Stopped in to Hannaford this morning. Wanted some boneless pork chops for later this week. Trick or Treat candy was plentiful. I bought mine earlier, but I really like candy so I need to supplement my stock. I got four THICK pork chops for $1.99/lb plus two thick pork chops for the same price. I got a whole chicken for $0.89/lb. At six pounds, it's a little large for my rotisserie, but perfect for a weekend slow cooker meal with those little potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, and...whatever has been in the refrigerator a little too long. Pineapples were $1.69 each. Canned from Aldis is still a better deal, but I really enjoy liberating the fruit. Headed for the dehydrator. Very jubilant and festive atmosphere. Lots of socializing among the shoppers. I'm really happy about that. For way too long, people were alone in the stores -- keeping their distance, walking one way, and mumbling through masks. I have a feeling this is going to be a merry Christmas for retailers. Next stop is Market Basket where I will buy Eggs $0.99/dozen, collard greens $1.29/bunch, yams $0.79/lb, and sweet onions $0.79/lb. At least in New England, the shelves remain full of inexpensive groceries.

  7. Just understand that the on/off button is on the same side as the really bright light. Turn the light away from you and 'pull' the button from below.
  8. OK. Good topic kimpooh19! The answer is nothing (though some would say TVs). BUT I am still using stuff I bought every year at Staples. Yup, free after rebate DVDs and CDs. Free after rewards paper. I just opened my last make-money-after-rewards-and-rebate batteries. You made me smile!
  9. For the record, I wear BF themed stuff year round. Great conversation starter...especially the shirts with, "If you can read this..." on the back.
  10. Obviously not just TVs, but we are so used to TV prices continuously dropping that this new reality is shocking. Glad I have nine already ;-) Maybe people will pass on this year's 'deals' and we can clean up after Christmas.
  11. Yikes! 54% increase from last year! A VERY Black Friday, indeed...
  12. You are a funny girl. There would be no forums like this if ANYONE knew the truth of any BF rumors. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.
  13. This is TOO easy... Walmart's $148 55" TCL 4K Roku TV Deal... I'm going to toss in a tradition as well. For many years, when our kids were young and our energy unlimited, my wife and I spent our Thanksgiving weekends on the road. Thursday, we would break bread with her family. Friday morning I would head out shopping while she packed. When I returned, we would unload my car, hop into hers, and head to Santa's Village for the kickoff of Christmastime at Santa's Village. We stayed at Cabot Inn and Suites which had an indoor pool, a hot tub, and a restaurant. First day, we would check, take the kids for a swim, have dinner, and head to Santa's Village. Checking in the first night got you a return pass for Saturday. More important, you got to enter the park through a side door -- no lines, no waiting. The inn was close enough that you could leave the park for dinner (and/or a nap). Next day, breakfast, one last dip in the pool, then home. Those were my best Black Fridays!
  14. The best remote ever is the TiVo Peanut. Damn near perfect. I have a butt load of inexpensive Phillips programmable remotes. High WAF since you can make every remote at every tv in your home work just the same.
  15. Amazon.com: Universal Big Button TV Remote - EasyMote | Backlit, Easy Use, Smart, Learning Television & Cable Box Controller, Perfect for Assisted Living Elderly Care. Black TV Remote Control : Electronics These are great for people overwhelmed by complex remote controls. Just a few really big backlit buttons.
  16. Canned goods actually have no practical shelf life as long as the container is not compromised, so it's always a great idea to have a well stocked pantry. I don't pay much heed (or even watch) anything coming out of the White House these days, but I have always bought 'must have' gifts early. Last year I paid retail for an Xbox Series X. I purchased my Legends Ultimate Arcade on November 7th. So shop away! Despite supply chain woes -- or maybe because of them -- I expect great discounts as people deal with soaring gas, heating oil, and food prices. So maybe leave a little spending for later. Pay attention to return windows. Within that window, you should be able to price adjust or return/rebuy. Happy shopping!

  19. Amazon.com: Sony ST5000 7.1.2ch 800W Dolby Atmos Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer (HT-ST5000), Surround Sound Home Theater experience Black : Everything Else Any sound bar dramatically improves TV audio, good ones are extremely impressive, and great ones will give you goosebumps. Give your loved one goosebumps for Christmas! The HT-ST5000 is the 2nd most expensive sound bar on our list, and it represents Sony’s best. It also addresses the question, “just how close can we come to authentic 5.1.2 cinematic surround sound in a sound bar?” with a definitive “pretty damn close.” To start, the HT-ST5000 comes with Dolby Atmos, which, as described above, doubles the surround sound experience by A) bouncing dedicated Atmos channels off the ceiling above, and then putting those sounds in specific areas in the air above. (Atmos = atmosphere.) The net effect is stunning. We only wish someone would re-master Hitchcock’s “The Birds” to include Dolby Atmos. What about Bluetooth streaming? Or game mode? Well, it's got both and higher quality wireless music streaming (with three times the data transmitted), thanks to Sony’s LDAC technology. At almost 47 inches wide, the HT-ST5000 is a good mate for TVs 55-inches and larger. The bigger size allows room inside for nine drivers: three pairs of tweeters and woofers, plus the two Dolby Atmos units for beaming sound upwards. (Bigger is always better when it comes to audio.) The subwoofer included is huge compared to other sound bar / subwoofer combos, and it will definitely put a smile on your face. As for music, audiophiles will appreciate the HT-ST5000’s high dynamic range and high-resolution audio playback. Boston Pops, Bruno Mars, Rihanna — everything we listened to sounded fantastic. The HT-ST5000’s remote isn’t overly complicated and the unit is easy to set up. You will definitely want to take your time with that, and carefully calibrate everything to your room and your tastes for the best sound quality. Just follow the instructions in the guide provided, and you'll be golden. Trust us, it's worth it.
  20. The 6-series is supposed to be spectacular... Best 75-inch TVs of 2021 | Tom's Guide (tomsguide.com) The big-screened TCL 6-Series Roku TV (75R635) offers enormous value for it's affordable price, giving you a premium 75-inch picture and a great smart TV experience for much less than the competition. Just like the more expensive Samsung Neo QLED, the R635 delivers amazing quality with mini-LED backlighting in addition to QLED – technology that earned it a 2021 Tom's Guide Award for best TV innovation. The result is impressive color and brightness, with some of the best HDR performance we've seen on anything this side of an OLED display. But TCL keeps delivering more, like THX Certified Game Mode, which makes the 6-Series one of the best gaming TVs available, even for new consoles like the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. From the design's smart touches, like cable management in the stand, to the always-solid Roku TV platform, the TCL 6-Series 75R635 is the best 75-inch TV value, and it's not even close. TCL 6-Series Roku TV (R635) review | Tom's Guide (tomsguide.com) FORExcellent picture with QLED-boosted color and mini-LED backlightGreat gaming performanceRoku TV offers a huge app selection and easy interfaceImproved Roku remote AGAINSTSound is a little weakRoku is missing some of the latest apps TCL 6-Series Roku TV (R635) review: VerdictFor a set that's defined as much by it's value as it's features and picture quality, the TCL 6-Series Roku TV (R635) is one of the best sets on the market. The 6-Series has a well-earned reputation for premium quality at affordable prices, but the combination of QLED enhancement, mini-LED backlighting and a solid smart TV experience make it the clear winner among TVs that sell for under $1,000. Even among past top picks, like the Vizio M-Series Quantum (M658-G1) and the 2019 TCL 6-Series (R625), the new R635 is the best value we've seen for the money, delivering excellent picture quality and plenty of features, including supporting next-generation game consoles. The whole package is enough to make the TCL 6-Series Roku TV (R635) one of the best TVs of 2020.
  21. You may want to check the warranty and installation specifications of your roofing material. Generally, the warranty does not go into effect until after some number of days at a certain temperature. If you will not be at that temperature again this year, you will need to used an 'enhanced' installation technique to activate the warranty. Usually that means more nails, more time, and more installation cost. When I had my roof done, I got a late start and took more time than expected to select a roofer. We ended up delaying installation until May. Good luck!
