My parents got a really expensive prelit tree from HL. It worked fine the first year. Then last year every single strand of lights ended up shorting out. Not one bulb out here or there but the whole strand would get really bright then fry. My mom cut off all the lights (took her forever) and is just going to put her own lights on this year. She was really bummed. The whole reason she bought the tree was for the ease and it ended up being a bigger pain in the bum than a normal tree would have been.

What were your Hits and Misses last Black Friday?
hnybee411 replied to thistledown814's topic in 2008
The biggest miss was definately the fisher price kareoke thing my kids got. They loved it, but there is no way to plug it in and it takes a ton of batteries and burns through them to the point it won't play music anymore after about 15 minutes. If santa hadn't brought it, we would have boxed it up and taken it back to the store. -
Same here. If we don't get it off, I'll have to take a half day so I can go in late.

Yeah, I'm sorry but what if everyone that worked at your store wanted the same thing. ARe they just all supposed to be pulled off the shelf and too bad for the cutomers??? Do what I did when I worked retail and get someone to go shopping for you. Most stores put their customers in front of their employees. That's how they make money.

I haven't had it happen to me but I saw this lady take a toy out of a toddler's hands and say "I wanted that." I think it was his grandma that was with him and she was just stunned. I said "You've got to be kidding me" and jerked it back out of the ladies hand and handed it back to the boy. She looked like she was going to start something with me, but I must have looked pretty PO'd cuz she just turned around and left. Grandma just looked at me and siad, "I can't believe she did that. I'm glad you were here cuz I was too stunned to do anything." Of course, then there was my hubby's one and only bf foray when some lady rammed him with her cart because apparently he wasn't allowed to be in her aisle or something. He picked her cart up and flipped it. When he told me about it I asked if he thought he overreacted a bit and he pulled up his shirt and showed me the huge bruise on his side. People are crazy.

Best Buy Black Friday Ticket System, FAQ and Sample Ticket
hnybee411 replied to bigjimslade's topic in 2007
I guess its all about location. I've never gotten to best buy more than an hour before opening and I've always been around 75th in line or so. Of course, I've never been after the doorbusters either. It's always something else I'm after so I didn't care if I was further back in line or not. -
I do pretty good about sticking to what I had intended for my boys cuz they have so much already. My mom's a whole different story though. I'm always buying her stuff. Her birthday is the day after christmas though so if I go too nuts, I just add it to her birthday stash.

We've been doing our christmas celebration on christmas eve for years. We switched to christmas morning when my oldest was two. Last year we had the adult gift exchange and such christmas eve after the kids went to bed so christmas morning was all about the kids. It was great. I'm not sure we're going to be able to do it this year as I've got one that's old enough to want to see everyone's presents not just his own.

Usually I did Kohl's, then best buy, then target or walmart, then the mall. Last year though I started with wal-mart early. Got the stuff I wanted to price match and then waited by the pallet of vsmiles. Then I hit best buy and then toys r us and then kohl's. It worked out so much better as I got everything I wanted and missed most of the crowds. Did have lines to wait in, but that's part of the day.

When I was younger my cousin and I would go with my grandma, two aunts and my mom. About 10 or 11 my dad and her dad would come pick us up and take us to lunch and a movie. They'd shop until like 8 or 9 that night. When I became an adult and started doing some mega shopping I was astonished to find myself done and ready to head home at 9 or 10 in the morning. Of course, I also go by myself so I don't have to wait for anyone. When I'm in line I sometimes wish I had someone with me, but I love getting done so fast.

I do almost all of my christmas shopping on that day but manage to stay around $500. It just depends how much cash I can get my hands on as I refuse to use anything but cash that day. I may have to work this year though which will totally stink. I'll be dog tired by the time I get off since I'll have to go shopping before my shift starts.

Kohl's tips and deals - New clearance 2/12 and 2/13
hnybee411 replied to a topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
I checked our flyer because I was going to make my mom go with me for the senior discount and the fine print said 62. -
I don't plan on returning anything, but thanks for the tips!!

This is why people can't get even one or two items rung up in some stores because too many people do things like this. Please think about how your actions will affect others before you do something like this.

Kohl's has become one of my favorite BF stops and is usually where I end up spending most of my money. Considering the prices they have on toys and other things, I would be shocked if there WASN'T a line going to the back of the store. I actually went twice this year since I took my three year old back after lunch to shop for his daddy. I loved that the early bird hours were so much longer than everyone else. I'm heading back today to finish up my shopping with the Kohl's cash. :)

Don't waste your time with K-Mart. They're apparently OOS just about everywhere.

What did you do when your kids snooped in their gifts???
hnybee411 replied to DramaQueenLucy's topic in 2006
Mine aren't old enough that I have to worry about this yet (thank goodness) but my cousin and I have already decided we're hiding presents at eachothers houses when they get to that age. We'll wrap early and just exchange them. I was a snooper, my brother was a snooper, my uncle, my FIL, my....well you get the picture. It's in their genes. I just know I'll have to go to extremes if I want to keep it a secret. -
My husband is actually the one that put his foot down here. His mom was complaining because we always have christmas with my parents (um...we live with them) and go up there like the weekend before or the weekend after. They live three hours away. He just pointblank told her "My kids are celebrating christmas in their home with us. You know where we live." It probably didn't help that they really didn't celebrate christmas from the time he was about eight until they had their first grandchild. Now it's like this big thing. He's a little bitter about that. Can't say as I blame him.

The only one that annoyed me is when we were in line at Kohl's and people walked by and went is this the line? My response: "Nope, we just like standing around."
