Help: Ideas For My Hard To Buy Father
hopeky94 replied to candlesbytammy1's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
I did something similar to this for my brother's birthday one year. He's a truck driver, so he doesn't have a lot of "free" time for hobbies and stuff. But what I did was bought him a nice collapsible cooler, a 12 pk of his favorite soda, lots of snacks (chips, crackers, jerky, etc), and some of those disposable/reusable plastic bowls that he can use to take leftovers with him. I dumped all the snacks and the bowls into the cooler (he would never have used a basket! LOL) and brought in the 12 pk as he was opening the rest of the gift-- he had lots of fun digging thru it all to see what kind of "goodies" he got, plus once all the snacks and sodas were gone, he still had a nice cooler that he could tuck away and use when he needs it! Also, one year for Christmas I got my teenaged nephew a gas gift card, but it seemed too impersonal by itself... so I went to Blockbuster, got one of those cardboard popcorn buckets with the unpopped corn stored in the bottom, a giftcard with enough on it to get a couple movies, and went to Wal-Mart and got some "movie-type" candies (M&M's, Reese's Pieces, Whoppers, etc.). I think I might have gotten him a funny t-shirt too... and I stuffed all of the candy, cards, etc. into the popcorn bucket and put it in a gift bag! Although in hindsight, I should have put it in a box, because guys seem to pull out one item at a time from a gift bag, then lay it down wherever... But anyway, I still got that cheesy and a big thank you!! HTH!! -
Need ideas for 12 yo boy & 9 yo girl
hopeky94 replied to hopeky94's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
Wow, these are great ideas so far!! :yup: Now-- for an update and some more questions... For the girl, so far I found a couple small books and a $1 DVD about a deaf cheerleader who overcomes. Where do you find the Password Journal? And what department are the craft kits in at Wal-Mart? Are they marked as far as what ages they are appropriate for? For the boy, I've bought a dark blue hooded sweatshirt, a pair of jeans, and some flannel pj pants. But I haven't found anything wolf-themed yet, which is odd because it seems like I used to see lots of stuff like that! Has anyone seen any specific wolf-themed items in the stores lately that would be appropriate? If so, where?? Thanks so very much!!! -
My office is buying for 8 kids this year and I've chosen to buy 1/2 the gifts for a 12 yo boy and a 9 yo girl. They're in different families: the boy has 2 brothers (ages 13 and 14) and a sister (age 6); the girl has one sister (age 4). I have a simple "wish list" and the clothing sizes for each, but I'm not used to buying for these ages and need help with ideas! As for price range, I prefer to buy several smaller items that can be wrapped (they're being delivered by a church group) and usually try to stay under $15-20 per item. Here are their lists: Boy (age 12): CDs and any wolf themed item(We always buy clothing for all the kids, even if they don't specifically request them, so need clothes ideas as well) Girl (age 9): Clothes, books, DVDs (also found out she's a "girly" girl) I'd LOVE any and all ideas for these two-- I really want to look for things for them on BF! Thanks so much!! P.S. The coworker that is buying the other half of the girl's gifts says he has clothes his daughter never wore that would fit her, so I may only need to buy the other-than-clothes gifts for her. No one has yet volunteered for the other half of the boy's gifts.

Nope-- I DEFINITELY meant the clothing store! LOL

Can you tell us what DVDs will be on sale on BF for this price? Also, does the ad show the prices on the Joe Boxer sleepware? Thanks-- can't wait to get home and see if I got any ads in the mail today!
-
Has anyone seen or heard rumors about Goody's BF sale yet? That's one of my favorite stops every year! :) The only rumor I've heard is from someone who works there, who said they've gotten in a bunch of 7" portable DVD players for the BF sale... TIA!!

I asked this past weekend at the Service Desk at my smaller, hometown WM where I usually BF shop, and one lady wanted to know which stores I wanted to PM with (like that would make a difference ), then the other lady snootily asked, "What day??" When I told her Black Friday, she immediately said, "No, we don't price match at all that day. That's our blitz." So needless to say, I plan on shopping the newer Super WM, about the same distance away but opposite direction! When I asked THAT store about PM, they didn't ask anything and were quick to assure me they DO price match, even to stores about 40 miles away! It will likely be more crowded, but I don't want to handle any more attitude problems that day than necessary! I haven't yet decided whether to contact corporate about this or not..................

Thanks, martinas-- I was starting to worry that I was losing my mind (what's left of it anyway!)

I've seen the ad scan for HD... but when I look at the "Sale Ads" page where the lists of items at each store are, it skips from Harbor Freight to Ikea! If anyone has seen the actual list, could you please post a link to it?
-
Where is the "List of Sale Items" for Home Depot? With all the other site's logos all over the ad, I don't think I could get a decent printout of it with my black & white printer-- and besides, the list is much easier to deal with anyway! Mods-- any idea when the list of items might be posted??
-
I want to print this ad for my dad, but I know he'll have trouble reading the prices because of all the little "trademark" thingies that the other site put over EVERY price! An I missing it somehow, or is there no item listing posted for HD yet??

I guess I'm pretty fortunate that I don't get too many gifts that I don't like and/or can't use. If it's clothes that I won't wear, I either give them to my mom or exchange them. But the one area where I do re-gift fairly regularly is bath sets! I keep the lotion and body mist if it's a great scent (the other stuff dries my skin out). All the rest of it gets divided up and given to various people-- usually with other assorted bath items or some makeup, inside a basket or makeup bag. I consider it a perfectly acceptable way of "using" the gift: I use it to re-gift, which saves me money, which means I can use what I saved to buy things I really want/need! What really irritates me though, is I usually get this stuff from people (mainly family) that have previously asked what I'd like-- and I've TOLD them I can't use the bath sets and would prefer just lotions (if they insist on buying that stuff)! Ah, well...

Yes, $4.99 for batteries is a good deal... but just an FYI-- last year, my Wal-Mart had 24pk AA Energizer batteries (maybe AAA too, can't remember) for $5.00 on BF, unadvertised deal. Sure would be nice if they do it again, so I can wait and go to CVS later in the day!

I get Bass Pro circulars sometimes but not always, but I haven't gotten this one! Does anyone know if it's online somewhere, so we can see the rest of the deals? And if it's store-specific on the sales, I'd need the Clarksville, IN one. TIA!!

Wait a minute-- the title of this thread is "Kmart EB Sale this Sat. 5AM til Noon" (emphasis added)-- so are you confirming that this is actually the ad for Saturday, November 25th instead???
-
bumping up-- any news on this one?? Do we have an ad scan for it?
-
bumping this up, to see if anyone can answer this!

Some other ideas, not online stuff: In '96, I was in the Army, stationed in Korea. My tour of duty was to end just days before Christmas, so I was having the same type problems you are, about getting in the Christmas spirit and being able to decorate. So I had my parents send a few familiar decorations from home... getting those was like having a "miniature Christmas" before Christmas! Then when I finally made it to a store, I found one of those plastic door coverings with Santa on it, carrying a big green bag. That's when the lightbulb went off -- I hung the door decoration on the wall locker in my room, and with a black dry erase marker, I wrote on the big green bag "Days Left In Korea" and Days Until Christmas" then kept track of them until it was finally time to pack everything up and head HOME!

Okay, I'm posting ALL the Christmasy links I have saved! Hope this helps!! Paper Snowflake Patterns Stocking Stuffers for Free Christmas Graphics Santa Land- really nice Organized Christmas (nice dream, huh? LOL) www.northpole.com/- games, recipes, ecards, etc. Then these last 3, I don't know if they're still good or not, cuz the stupid firewall I'm behind (at work) won't let me open them! Same here-- what's the deal?

We've had 2 Gordmans stores open in this area within the past month. If you're not familiar with them, check out this thread "Gordmans? What is it?". I just shopped there for the first time yesterday and was AMAZED at the deals I found! So I'm wondering-- what kind of deals do they normally have on BF?? Is there anyone here that is connected to them somehow and can get us their BF ads? TIA!!!
-
Has anyone seen the Sears Friends and Family flyer/invite online yet this year?? I know my store didn't ask for it last year, but I like having it in hand, just in case (and so I can be 100% certain of the type sales they'll be having! LOL)...
-
Cool!! Is this ad laying out at the stores already? Or do you have the "inside scoop"?
-
I've never PM'ed before either, but I want to try it with some movies this year. But my question is: does WM have a rule about how close the competing store has to be before they'll PM? I usually BF shop the Wal-Mart in my small town (less hectic), but the only other store in town that does BF is CVS! We have a Sears appliance center and a Kmart about 10-15 miles away, but the closest for BB, CC and several others is about 35-40 miles away! Will I be able to get the PM deals from those stores? TIA!! :)

aptone, Do you have a copy of the ad for this, or is this 2nd-hand info? Not trying to sound rude, but with all the false alarms we've been having with Wal-Mart ads, I'd rather ask than be disappointed later... I sure hope it IS true though-- I might have to drag myself out of bed early for some of these!:)
