  1. Purplus.com has PSE 4 for $41 and it comes with a cheap digicam. Just the CD, though - no manual. Might be able to sell the camera and recoup much of the cost.
  2. Reference is to this page on the fox8cleveland.com site.
  3. Go to fatwallet.com forums and in the Deal Discussion area, read the (very long) thread called "Emattress.com Memory foam mattress similar to Tempur-Pedic for a lot less". Not that I'm recommending emattress.com, but there's a lot of good links in that thread. We got a 4 Lb. 3" topper about two years ago from memoryfoam.com. (good info on that site for research) First thing I noticed is that the thing is heavy! So if the vendor isn't offering free shipping, don't forget to factor it in. The ones at overstock were cheaper, but after doing a lot of research it seemed to be one of those "you get what you pay for" deals. An extra few dollars seemed to be a good investment, especially for something you sleep on. I can sleep on anything but my wife was having trouble. Our mattress is a quality pillowtop (looking back, the pillowtop was not a good choice) and is only five years old, so I didn't want to replace it. After doing a lot of reading we decided to get a 4 Lb, 3" topper made from Sensus foam. I wasn't having any trouble sleeping as it was, so I can't say I notice anything different. My wife does say it has helped her. If there's a problem, it's that when using a topper your sheets won't fit any more. Doesn't bother me, but my wife finds it an annoyance.
  4. Kudos to the new mods - all of them are great members.
  5. In my case, it's obvious they are spammers. They all put a website in the profile that is clearly some commercial site, never post any messages, and register a username that 95% of the time is gibberish. Maybe 5% of the time I have to check out the link in their profile to see if it's spam - the rest of the time you can tell right from the URL (e.g. "fleb.online-poker.de")
  6. I don't know if they are as persistent as they are automated. I admin a small forum and I get at least 2 new registrations every day that are obviously done by programs. It's a giant PITA. They don't even create posts - they just register so their spam website will show up in their profile.
  7. OK, thanks - I guzzle it by the pot so pods don't seem to be the answer for me. :)
  8. Has anyone compared costs of making coffee when using the pods as compared to using a 3-pound can of ground coffee?
  9. I read the statement on Harvard's site and it certainly does not say students go for free or that they won't need to take loans. It says there is no expected contribution from parents. Link.
  10. Well, none of the ones near me are closing. Personally I prefer OM over OD - where I live, the OM is considerably larger and has better selection. I'm sure if the OD was larger I'd feel differently.
  11. Orlando is such a popular destination, you shouldn't have much trouble finding a good fare. Don't forget to check fares from different airports you can use - you might find a much better deal if you drive a bit to a different airport. For example, driving 2 hours from Pittsburgh to Cleveland can sometimes save a bundle on a flight. Did you go to orlandoinfo.com and request their free trip planning kit? Might be worth it.
  12. Found one that works sometimes... coupon code 226665 for free shipping on any purchase.
  13. I was just saying what I would do since I'd find the list easily enough online when the closings are announced. Sorry to get you all fired up. If you want to call them, have at it.
  14. I made a post that contained only a link, and if I go to "Quick Links" -> "My Recent Posts", the thread I posted to doesn't show in the list. Is that just a quirk of vBulletin?
  15. In that case, you don't need an LCD with superfast response time. You might look at the Samsung 930B, Circuit City has it for $330 after rebate. If your video card has a DVI connector, you'll want to get a DVI cable as it's not included with the monitor. Don't buy the cable at Circuit City for $60, find a local computer shop and save a ton. Dell has the 1905FP with 3-year warranty on sale for $320. A monitor lasts a long time so buy one with a DVI connector, even if you aren't going to use it right away. Most people feel the picture is better when using the DVI connection versus the analog VGA one. When looking at specs, consider: Contrast ratio (difference in brightness from the darkest to brightest pixel) - 500:1 or higher is good Response time: you're not a gamer, so just about anything less than 25ms would be OK. Brightness: most LCD monitors are plenty bright, so any brand-name monitor would be adequate in this area. Other things you might want to look at is how adjustable the stand is - some only tilt back and forth, others also have a height adjustment, perhaps a swivel feature too. If you are doing serious color work, you'll want an 8-bit panel; otherwise a 6-bit panel will be OK. Some LCDs have backlight bleedthrough - the light behind the screen can be seen slightly in a dark room. If you will be working in a darkened room, that can be annoying, because in some parts of the screen you might see a grayish tint when it should be black. In a bright store you might not be able to notice it. If you work in normal room light, it shouldn't be a problem.
  16. What types of things do you do with your computer? It will help determine what kind of specs you'll need with the LCD monitor.
  17. I don't think I would call the store to ask if it's closing. Those people are probably depressed enough as it is.
  18. Check the smaller local banks. The big banks got rid of Christmas Club accounts because they make no money on them and they decided they're not all that interested in the small accounts any more. In the past the theory was that if you got set up at a bank with a small account, over time the bank would benefit as your accounts and banking needs grew. Now they realize people change banks at the drop of a hat so they don't chase the smaller accounts like they used to.

    fee for a gift card

If it's an actual credit card thing (magnetic stripe, individual account number on the card) I can see charging a couple of bucks for that. If it's just a piece of paper with an amount printed on it, I don't think that merits an extra fee. I think a $10 fee for a $100 mall gift card is incredibly high. Expect to see most places implement a monthly fee on their gift cards that begins 6-12 months after the card is bought. Many do already. The Visa gift card I got this year from work has a $2 monthly maintenance fee beginning 6 months after it's issued. The reason is that companies, with the huge growth in gift card buying, don't have a good way to track the money on their books. Accounting rules do not let them take credit for the sale until the card is used. So they have millions of dollars they have taken in but can't take credit for the sales. Over time, that is a huge number, and they don't want to have to be perpetually liable for every unused gift card.
  20. I only have hands-on experience with Linksys networking gear but every piece I've used has worked - wired router, wireless router, USB ethernet adapter, USB wifi adapter. If your house is close to others, please make sure you enable the security features to keep other people from grabbing onto your wireless network.
  21. Whenever I need to send flowers out of town, I look up a florist in that town and call them directly. Might cost me $1 for the call, but I ask for a commitment when they'll be delivered, and ask for the person's name, and that seems to ensure everything goes well.
  22. We're having Christmas Eve and Christmas morning services. lafevem brings up a good point about looking for a church... Not going to church at all because of a past bad experience is like refusing to ever buy food anywhere because one store once sold you outdated milk. There's a church out there that's right for everyone, and it's worth finding. It's made a very big difference in my life.
