  1. hmmmm....anybody else getting a 404 trying to get to the ad? I can get the others on the same domain.

  3. I've done it for several years...and been happy about it. I've been able to offset my purchases. I've rarely not been 1st in line; I was 2nd last year because my bud was with me. Last year we were on the property for just about 24 hours. As far as how I feel that people behind me didn't get what they need I have two things to offer. If they wanted it that bad, they would have been there before me. And, I can't think of anything Best Buy sells that a persons NEEDS other than maybe bottled water. It's all about WANTS and how much you're willing to pay for your WANT. I do think I'll post my tickets online this year (if I go) so I can have my deals wrapped up by midnight. I'd like to get some sleep this time.
  4. Just called the RS is was going to stop at and they said no to the PM. I asked if it was local management that had made the decision and was advised that it was "from the company as a whole" Oh well, I guess I could use the case it comes with or I could fight it out with customer service after the fact.
  5. Me too. I didn't get an answer in another thread so I emailed corporate (via public relations) and got the following back... Thanks for your inquiry. Your local RadioShack store can answer your pricing questions. I can say that it is my understanding no additional promotions are available for Black Friday sales, i.e. the advertised price is the final price unless the in-store price is lower than the advertised price. In that case, the lowest price is the one that is charged. Since I had asked about the "Corporate Price Matching Policy" this really didn't answer my question. I may try to email back for clarification but expect I won't get a reply until after the holiday.
  6. I think some are waiting for the details on the cheaper laptop to come out next week to compare. I, for one, am looking closely at the $400 Sony as well.
  7. Just a quick bit of advice, and I'm sure it won't be an issue, but I would make sure your receipt reflects the correct model number of the TV. I would hate to have it need warranty work in a few months and you get hassled because your trying to get the "wrong" TV fixed.
  8. Marketing Sheets (Including Specs) for the Sony Laptops at BB. NR110ES (pdf) $399 NR120ES (pdf) $499 plus other stuff in ad. I think this is the Canon Multi-Function in the bundle. Correct me if I'm wrong. I think when the sub-$250 laptop comes out that it was draw some attention from these. I wonder if I'll have to overnight it for one of the Sony laptops?
  9. I would imagine all companies have someone posted to cover forum chatter. One argument may be that consumers would curb spending in the weeks before BF hoping to get a better deal. WM choked last year so they are looking in their arsenal for a better solution this year. While I understand, and even respect it from an economical standpoint, WM needs to see how being so anti-consumer will cost revenue in the long run. Now, I'm not saying this is going to put them out of business, but I know they're not going to see my money there this year. Just from the last couple of years I've been out on BF, it seems there are few people (past the 1st 20 or so in line) that even know about site like this. WM & CNN just gave GD some good advertising, hopefully there will be a blurb on the national news soon.
  10. I am fairly certain that I am fine because she pulled up my PSA or RZ history on the phone (mentioned how much I spent last year), scheduled the appointment, scheduled the pre-appointment, confirmed contact info and traded emails. She also mentioned that she was the only PSA at that store right now and was glad I called so early. Maybe I just got lucky. Thanks for you concern though.
  11. About 5 hours south of you....I won't tell if you won't. :)
  12. Just got the 1st spot at my nearest PSA store for BF.
  13. My experience was not that great, but mostly my fault. You see, I told other people about it and they wanted in. I orginally made the appointment for just myself (1st slot of the day) but then added a friend on with my order. Then a relative wanted a new TV, by the time everything was said and done it was 2 or 3 cars full of stuff. This added quite a bit of time to our appointment. So, my advice, if you are shopping with someone else, make sure they schedule their own PSA or schedule the slot right after yours so y'all have plenty of time. Oh, as far as the breakfast, I won't expect much this year. Last year we were offered some store bought sugar cookies and warm Sunny Delight to wash 'em down. I politely passed on both. So, for a free service, it's great because they (at least mine did) work their tails off to pull all the product and fight the crowd for you. Lastly, if you arrive early enough, try to park (back-in) near the mobile install bay as that is the most likely location for the staging/check-out area. But, make sure you are parking in a legal spot, you wouldn't want to have to carry your loot home.
  14. Ah, makes sense. Do you know if there is a way to reduce the amount of memory allocated for video card or would that make it unstable? I do nothing more than internet and some office apps, no gaming whatsoever.
  15. To see a quick view of the specs, go to My Computer, on the left of the screen click System Info...that should list the processor, OS and memory specs. To physically check, turn computer completely off, removed the battery (although I never do) removed the 2 small phillips screws holding the memory cover next to the battery and removed the cover. You shuold then be able to read the label on the memory. Oh, unlug the computer from the wall too, just in case.
  16. I physically checked mine and had 1 stick of 512. The system info reflected a reduced memory count (like yours) and HD drive. I compared it with my 3yo Comapq and the Compaq was dead-on. There may be some other type of system limitation but I'm not that computer savvy. Anybody else know?
  17. re: the battery I dug around on Toshibas website and e Bay looking for an extended battery. Couldn't find one. i suspect there isn't much call for one in the Satellite series, but if anyone knows of one, I'd appreciate the part number.
  18. Ok, I'll ask the same question here that I asked over in the lappy thread....Does anyone know the memory configuration for the BB eMachines? I cracked open the Toshiba and found1 512K but it's a little bit more time consuming on the desktop. Not to mention, I've yet to repack the laptop.
  19. There was a hookah in line in Mansfield, TX as well.....I guess I just don't get it. I watched them clean it after they used it and it was too much touble for me. Anyway, I like Marlboros better.
  20. Yeah, that's kinda my fault. he asked me about it at 5:30 that morning in the install bay (He wasn't there all night like I was) and I was pretty out of it by then. I know now that I will make sure I sleep next year. Anyway, When I came to on Saturday and realized what had happened, I offered to take it back for him as it was still in my truck. he told me he wanted the LCD instead of the Plasma for durability but I still don't think he knows it doesn't have a built-in tuner. Heck, maybe I can at least save him $100 with this info. PS, Anybody want to sell their Panasonic Plasma for cost?
  21. Not bad for the $. I took it out yesterday, checked the memory for a pending upgrade and spent about 2 hours updating and clearing crapware off. That was probably moot as I am going to upgrade to Linspire after Santa gives it to me on Christmas.
  22. W4207....Ya, know, the website shows $999 as regular price. If that's the case, why was it a ticketed item? My brother got it but I am tryign to talk him into one with a tuner.
  23. You beat me...WOW, I can't believe they were charging that much to do that. Wait a minute, on second thought, I can believe it.
  24. Hmmmm....AFAIK, IF the manufacturer still provides "Recovery Discs" they would be provided free of charge in the box. Some manufacturers, not sure which but Sony comes to mind, place their recovery software on a seperate partition of the harddrive. That's fine...unless your HD crashes. Could it have been that they were trying to offer you a third party recovery or anti-virus program like Norton or something? To me, that would be the most likely case. But, to answer your question, I have never heard of any reputable retailer or manufacturer charging for an original set of recovery discs.
  25. Okay, for those that had bad experiences this year or in past years, take the time now to let your voice be heard. Call Corporate (not just Customer Service, ask for Executive Resolutions), send an email, write a letter. Thoughts from my experience this year. 1. At ticket time, Give tickets for ONE item, starting with the lowest stock item, to ONE employee and have them go through the line staring in 5 minute intervals. The employees this year had 3 to 5 tickets each which led to confusion and I wasn't especially on top of things at the time. I missed a had to have item, but I still got it, even though I was 1st in line. My buddy, number 2, almost lost a had to have item as well but scored the last one in stock. 2. Set up the cart-barricade beforehand. If theft is a concern in some areas, secure with chains or something. 3. Chain a few large trash cans to the barricade so people can keep the mess to a minimum. 4. Rent a couple of cops....I mean c'mon, I know the deals are really good but the volume will make up for the unit profit. Spend the couple of thousand to protect your customers and reputation. Heck, even pay one of them to stamp people hands with a store stamp and mark their number in line to prevent late additions. 5. Allow groups of 25 or 50 into the store in 5 minute intervals. 6. Place ALL TICKETED ITEMS in a one secured area and have cutomers pick them up after they have paid. Staple the cutomers receipt to the numbered tickets. Have the ordered puller mark the receipt (I know, I hate that too) and confiscate and secure or shred the tickets. 7. Post a list of which items will be ticketed and inventory totals on the front door of the store so that there will be no question as to quantity. I can't remember how many times I was asked what I was buying while someone was trying to count back to their place in line. They could also post some CC and RZ apps so people can have them filled out and ready if they need one of those. I'm sure there are more or better ideas, and BB may care less. But I know I'll feel alot better about it if I at least let them know how I feel.
