  1. A complete and re-mastered Blu-Ray collection of PeeWee's Playhouse! If you're around my age, then you remember getting up and watching PeeWee every Saturday morning. This is something that is definitely going under our tree this year. And to make the gift complete, there is a talking PeeWee doll circa 1987, still in the box, just waiting for you. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pee-Wees-Playhouse-Complete-Series-Blu-Ray-Ff-8-Disc-/161452898433?pt=US_DVD_HD_DVD_Blu_ray&hash=item259757b881 http://www.ebay.com/itm/PEE-WEE-HERMAN-PEE-WEES-PLAYHOUSE-MATCHBOX-PULL-STRING-DOLL-NIB-WORKS-1987-/361062883248?pt=TV_Movie_Character_Toys_US&hash=item5411065fb0
  2. I always go for the laundry detergent too. Plus, a lot of the items that they have with bonus points are things I would normally buy anyway. It's a good way to stock up and get a little extra back. It's a huge plus that I can walk to the store from my house too.
  3. For a kid that loves building stuff or has an interest in engineering, Snap Circuits are awesome. They can be tricky to find in toy stores and if you do manage to find them, they are always the small set. This set is huge! http://www.ebay.com/itm/ELENCO-SC-750-Snap-Circuits-Extreme-NEW-/231152364743?pt=Educational_Toys_US&hash=item35d1c12cc7
  4. Aw, I think they are adorable! Looks like something I would buy.
  5. This seems like a pretty cool gift for a teen's bedroom. It's a puzzle lamp that you can hang up from the ceiling. There was a place in the mall selling these exact things for $45-100! You could help them make their own and get the exact colors that they wanted. http://www.ebay.com/itm/30-Pieces-IQ-LIGHT-Jigsaw-Modern-Ceiling-Puzzle-Lamp-Light-Shade-S-Size-new-/111364131564?pt=US_Lamp_Shades&var=&hash=item19edd1caec
  6. So, the other thread on what's for Thanksgiving dinner got me thinking…. I am not sure how to approach this year because we've recently learned that ds13 has extensive food allergies. They span pretty much the entire food spectrum and are very hard to avoid….corn, wheat, soy, barley, oats, rice, and almonds. This obviously makes eating at our house very interesting. We usually eat at my parents' house. My mom does most of the cooking with me bringing a few side dishes. She doesn't feel comfortable cooking for ds anymore and I'm ok with that. I will make and bring his food so I can make sure all allergens are avoided. But, this is his first year not being able to eat what everyone else has and I hate for him to feel left out at a holiday. Anyone else deal with this and how do you handle it?
  7. My mom does the cooking. It's mostly the traditional stuff, plus for whatever reason-she feels the need to make Jell-o. Yuck. However, I am not sure how to approach this year because we've recently learned that ds13 has extensive food allergies. They span pretty much the entire food spectrum and are very hard to avoid….corn, wheat, soy, barley, oats, rice, and several nuts. This makes eating at our house very interesting.
  8. Does anyone else love early jazz as much as I do? I tend to gravitate towards Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong strongly throughout the year, but especially during the holidays. The music is such a stress reliever for me. I'd love to find a music station that played this type of holiday music specifically. Does such a thing exist?
  9. Just wanted to add, I'm a respiratory therapist. All of the hospitals that I have worked at and the long term care facility that I work at now take good care of the employees that have to work on holidays. We get food provided by our employers and are allowed to decorate the areas that we work in. It means a lot to the residents and patients that don't have anywhere else to go that we are there and that we are happy to be able to take care of them. For some of them, we are the only family that they have. It's our responsibility to make sure they don't feel like a burden because we would rather be somewhere else doing something else. This is the job we signed up for. Maybe try to keep in mind that some people don't have family or friends to celebrate holidays with. Maybe they go out shopping or out to eat or to a movie because they want to be around others at a time that they know people are happy and celebrating. As a teenager, I worked at Chuck E Cheese for a couple of years. I volunteered to work Thanksgiving because my mom was a nurse and we didn't always have Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving Day. Yes, it was pretty slow as far as business went, but there were always some families there because they either didn't celebrate Thanksgiving or because they weren't able to travel to where family was. There is always another side to the story. I just wish people weren't so quick to judge other people's situations.
  10. We got one. Whoever used to live in our house before we did must have been on the mailing list. We don't need it because we don't toy shop anymore. Maybe I could mail it to someone that wants it?
  11. 1. Best Buy and/or Target. 2. If there is something that I want to buy, I will go when it's on sale. So, it could be any of the days! 3. Thanksgiving morning? Maybe…8am.
  12. I have no personal preference either way. Those who have to work will have to work, whether it's a service job, retail job, or healthcare job. That is what we signed up for. I would like to see people spend time with their families no matter what day it happens on. Just because it isn't necessarily Thanksgiving Day doesn't lessen the time and meal shared together. People will figure something out…we always do. There is too much negativity in the world already. Let's just calm down and carry on, in whatever manner it is that you choose to shop.
  13. For me, it's simple…I came for the deals back in 2005, but I stayed because of all of the awesome people I've met here. That's what makes Gottadeal special!
  14. The biggest thing that I'm getting tired of is all of the complaining about the Thanksgiving sales. I understand that people don't want to have to work on Thanksgiving, and I don't either, but my job requires me to so I do it. We are still able to have a nice family day together, it just may not be on Thanksgiving day itself. That doesn't really matter to me as long as we all get together at some point over the holiday weekend. When I decided to do the type of work that I do, I understood that it would require me to work holidays. It's just part of my responsibilities. That being said, I also understand that some people don't want to shop on Thanksgiving. That's ok too. But the shaming of people who DO decide to go out shopping on Thanksgiving really needs to stop. I'm so over all of the negativity. For a lot of us, this is a fun time of year and a tradition that people share with family or friends. I just hope it stays that way!
  15. We have allergies in our house so we have always had a fake tree. It's a nice tree, easy to put up/take down, never sheds needles, definitely cheaper than buying a tree every year. I do miss the scent of the real trees though.
  16. BF shopping in cold weather tips…. 1. LAYERS! It's freezing outside but will be hotter than heck inside. Having a jacket or fleece with zipper pockets is awesome. Gives you a safe place to stash your hat/gloves quickly. 2. If you're going to be waiting outside a store for a decent amount of time, bring a warm drink. Keeps your insides warm and acts as a hand warmer. 3. You can get those little hand warmer packets at Walgreens. Stick some in your shoes. That way, you don't have to double up on socks which is very uncomfortable when you start getting hot later.
  17. We used to live by a 24 hour Walmart. They would just let everyone come in and start putting things into their carts as soon as the pallets were out. Then it was just a waiting game until the registers allowed you to check out. I really preferred that approach over waiting until the exact minute and ripping open the pallets after huge crowds gather around them. It just seemed so much more relaxed. I don't know if that could work everywhere but there has to be a better way.
  18. I haven't actually camped out. We've done 6 hours at most, I think. It's just too cold here!
  19. I go old school with handwritten lists too. Just to make sure I know what items are at what store. But, as someone else said, I'm a wild and undisciplined shopper so I'm a bit all over the place. Thank goodness I only do this kind of unbridled spending once a year!
  20. I have two shirts that I've won in past contests, but I was thinking that since this is WI, I might need to get one of the hoodies!
  21. Maybe full price (or close to it) for higher end brand name items. Like last year, we got a specific brand name of purse for dd. I was ok paying almost retail for it because it's a brand that has a high potential for fakes. Buying it directly from the store was safer, although maybe a bit pricier. I'm in the same boat right now looking for a specific brand name of winter jacket for her and ds. If I ebay, I might end up getting ripped off.
  22. Using the "I"……. I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
