This was my Christmas last year....very depressing.....

I've stopped shopping at Kohl's for the same reason. Their ads are way too busy. I haven't really shopped for anything since before Black Friday. That whole "change" did it for me.

We always give items for the birds outside her door. Feeders, seeds, etc. They are like her pets.

I got the pancake and sandwich cutters. Either I am really bad at using them or they don't work very well. Yoda always looks like he lost a light saber battle. My poor son keeps hoping one day it will work.

That is why we NEVER took our kids! I would finish for them on Black Friday! But now they want to come with me!!!!! UGH!

Does anyone really think the earlier time made a difference in what was offered? My son wanted to go but I usually shop for him but didn't really see anything worth while. He wants to go next year but I am really re-thinking letting him go. He will be 15. I am not sure I want to deal with teenage tired attitude. Maybe I will go at 4 next year but make sure I shop online first in case I go home earlier than planned.

I wish it would go back to the way it used to be.....Stores opening at 5 or 6. shop, go eat breakfast and then go home. Why even call it Black Friday anymore?

WOW! I didn't think anyone else would have recliners on their lists! Thanks so much everyone! We had our Thanksgiving last weekend so I am dragging my husband to Big Lots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand......This midnight opening thing is making me crazy! But it is one of the few things my husband and I do by ourselves!

So glad I am not alone! We do have traditions that we do every year, including going to buy cheese. Weird, I know but still a tradition. But no matter what, it still won't be the same. Plus, I used to love being able to start using the "magic" as a ploy for behavior! That is gone, too! LOL

I send Thank You notes for EVERYTHING. Even the pictures they color for me. If they took the time to think of me, it deserves a Thank You.

Well, with one in high school and now one in 5th grade, for the first time, our house will not have the "magic" of Christmas......(I don't want to use THE word).....just in case some eyes are around. Very depressing since my husband and I LOVED that part of the holidays!

I am also a teacher and appreciate ANYTHING! It was hard when my kids were in middle school. I usually bought antibacterial and socks from B and B Works. Every year , I pick up the socks at after Christmas sales. I also picked up Christmas ornaments on sale at the Hallmark shop. (at times, 90% off) For the male teachers, we got them the peanut sampler from Mr. Peanut or Dairy Queen gift card.

Thanks everyone for these great posts! Came to see if I could get advice for my 10yr old. Think I will go with the Kindle Fire???? He wants both an Ipod and a Kindle....... I have an Ipod that he uses so I can't see getting him one. I am not up to date on these. I never knew they had games.

October is when I normally find the best deals. Nothing really yet. I am holding out because I am in a different gift bracket this year.......
