  1. Generosity. It is lost in this society today. Just because you can turn those tickets into cash doesn't mean it is the best thing you could do with them. Of all the places and ways I would hope to earn money, selling vouchers for doorbuster items at Best Buy just never makes it onto my list.
  2. Probably tomorrow afternoon and no later than sunset.
  3. If I were going to Best Buy for any BF deals, I would definitely have a BB credit card. Everything is same as cash for 90 days, I believe, no matter how small the purchase. Even the $9.99 speakers I bought last year online came in with "same as cash for 90 days." That gives you time to sit on the cash and potentially earn a little more interest before paying it off in the new year. Obviously it is too late for you to follow that route now. If I had that much cash, I would certainly never talk about it and take out only what you need at the register when it comes time to pay. There are just too many people all over the place to advertise yourself that way (unless you look like the type that nobody would dream of messing with). Verify with your bank whether there are any limits on purchases made that way and see what they recommend as a way around that. If it is a good bank, they should willingly give you a way to do what you want.
  4. Basically, with me, I figure it breaks down like this... If you think it is ok to make a dollar any legal way you can, then this is ethical. If you have a different standard and think that people should not be greedy and the tickets should go to those who actually intend to buy a particular item, then it is not ethical. I suppose it takes all kinds to make the world go 'round. Personally, I don't look to make a buck in every situation. I'm just not that kind of person. I get the feeling some people would take the last ticket for an item if they knew the person behind them really wanted it and then turn around and try to make at least a dollar off of them. I wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror if I operated that way, but anybody doing that obviously doesn't need or want my stamp of approval for the way they want to live their life. So go and do what makes you happy. As far as claiming the income for your taxes, whether most people do it or not does not reflect what the law says. Reality is that you are supposed to claim the income you receive from selling things. Not doing so is probably illegal, whether most people tend to get away with it or not. If you're going to tell me that selling BF items on eBay or selling the vouchers is "just business", then I expect you to actually follow business law. Otherwise, tell me it is "just a hobby."
  5. We've had a Dyson Animal for about 3 years (at least) and it is awesome. When we first got it, we ran our previous vacuum through rooms and then followed with the Dyson and it was filling up while our old one didn't fill a bag through the entire house. It was clearly not up to the task. As others have stated, it is also very easy to take apart and then get back together without breaking anything. It is not heavy and very mobile around the home. My mother-in-law bought the "Shark", the vacuum supposedly "just as good as a Dyson." It was quite heavy in comparison, very difficult to take apart, and hard to move around. She returned it in favor of a Dyson after my wife did a demo for her.
  6. Like I have said elsewhere on the forums, if you are going to make the argument that it is "just business" and you can sell it, then you had better be claiming the income. No legitimate "business" sells things without reporting the income.
  7. The lack of respect displayed by somebody that jumps a line/queue just blows my mind. Anybody who does it when the line is obvious has failed to gain the minimum amount of respect they should have for all other human beings.
  8. That's what I did last year. I had no experience doing any Black Friday stuff, but I got in line by myself and was lucky to be in with a good bunch and we talked a lot over the next 9 hours or so before we went in.
  9. Last year when I was at BB, we had some tough looking folks who weren't going to tolerate any of it. Some jokers tried it, but weren't up to the challenge and went to the end of the line. I suppose if they had been a little more crazy or bigger they may have gone for it, so this may not always work out.
  10. The closer you are to the front of the line, the more ticket items you will have a shot at. Virtually everything has a limit, so you won't be able to break that limit, but you could probably get a ticket for every single ticketed item available if you are within the first 10 people or so.
  11. If somebody were going to do this kind of thing, there is no great defense for it. If you want customers to know about the deals, you have to give at least a few days of notice. If you aren't pulling the items off the shelf, nothing would prevent somebody wiping it out on Wednesday afternoon/evening if they really wanted to, right?
  12. Since we have a CC card, we could probably get that as no-interest until the rebates come in anyway.
  13. I went to a BB last year and then stopped by a CC. BB was well organized and it was truly possible to get in and out in 15 minutes if you knew what you wanted. I went to CC and it was a disaster as the queue line wrapped all around the store and the, obviously angry, people in line did not want to let people cut through to see other items inside the store. I would not want to go to CC, but I would if the deals were just too incredible. I'd just have to make sure I didn't let any of the nonsense get under my skin.
  14. I have not noticed any desktop deals that are even comparable to last year's deals. After all the hype about this being the year for great deals, it seems nobody is really bothering. Unless there are some amazing deals yet to be announced... I guess we won't truly know until the week of Thanksgiving, which is going to make it harder for me to plan than I was hoping.
  15. I had been waiting on BB and CC ads to come and was not wowed by anything other than the $299 laptop deal w/ CC. Did anyone notice any really good PC deals out there? If there isn't any amazing deals on one, I am likely just going to buy a unit from my soon-to-be-former employer as they liquidate excess computers (laying off 50% of the workforce).
  16. I thought the 500 GB drive for $99.99 from Office Max sounded like a good deal. Not enough to get out early in the morning, but maybe to buy online. It usually retails for over twice that, I think.
  17. If a savvy person drives by and sees people with laptops out, they may very well try to see what they can get. Especially if they see a line that is already too long for them to get the deal they wanted to get. The type of person that is likely to engage in this behavior is usually ready to go at a moment's notice.
  18. As long as you are only putting login usernames, passwords, and other transactions into SSL-encrypted sites, you should be fine. Anything not encrypted could be sniffed out by anybody within range of the wifi that wants to get at it.
  19. I would love to get one, but since money is tight it will have to be a truly incredible price value.
  20. If I am going to get in line for any 'doorbuster' type deals, I will probably queue up on Thanksgiving afternoon. I went out around 7 PM last year and barely got what I had waited all night for.
