They sure do. Not everyone is a "power user" and requires a lot of CPU horsepower. Personally if I were in the market for a new laptop intended for basic internet browsing, word processing, burning CD's and watching DVD's - this would fit that perfectly. Of course if you can afford it I always recommend a laptop with a Pentium-M or AMD Turion processor.

Good news: Dell.com and HPShopping.com should meet your criteria although you may need to wait for some better coupons to be released. Bad news: Unless you can drop the Windows XP Professional and Office requirements, your only two choices are Dell and HP BTO from their web sites. CircuitCity.com has a nice deal on the HP Pavilion ZE2113US for $649.99 after $250 rebates.

I would say your MiniDV budget is adequate, you just need to wait for another Dell coupon. Camcorder Deals

Soliex, You really have two options: 1) I would recommend this Chase Cash Plus Rewards credit card if you can get a co-signer (parent, brother/sister, significant other, neighbor, anyone). 2) Otherwise save up $500 cash and apply for a secured credit card at your local bank. You have a very good chance of being approved. After 1 year apply for a regular unsecured credit card and you'll probably be approved. to the forums :)

Fry's B&M sells USB cables for like $2.99 or cheaper. That's all you need. Or you can go to a computer/office store and pay retail $19.99+ for a USB cable.

The only annoyance with Tivo Basic is 3 day tv guide and no season pass. But you're also saving $12.95 which I think is worth the "hassle". Additional Tivo Plus units are $6.95/mo not $12.95 :)
-
mrn8, AFAIK neither of those units offers Free Basic Tivo, only the $12.95/mo or $299 lifetime options. There is no option to "downgrade" from Tivo Plus to Free Basic Tivo. If Free Basic Tivo is important to you then I would recommend the Toshiba SD-H400 for $158.99. I would also read this TivoCommunity.com thread.

I just searched and wasn't able to find any ButterflyPhoto.com coupon codes. I'm not sure if you realized it but this thread was created December 2004 and is now 8 months old.

Yes that's a good deal considering it's 80 hours and free shipping :)

You mean 15.4" widescreen :) Yeah it's amazing how much more screen real estate you get with just a few more inches. Most mainstream non-widescreen laptops have 1024x768 resolutions in 14" and 15" sizes. That's to conserve valuable battery power. You can also turn off WiFi and FireWire to save even more battery juice. That is remarkably quick but TN is rather close to GA. The important thing is that you're happy with your new laptop and you didn't pay retail. That deserves a Do you have a wireless network? I love the wireless 802.11b/g built in instead of having a PCMCIA card sticking out. You should look into a good laptop case or sleeve to protect your new laptop.

I'm glad you called them. My 19" CRT monitor blew up one day, called them and they overnight expressed a replacement monitor. Total cost to me? $0
