looking at the 700m, have been for a while, waiting for a good deal

cheapest you are going to be able to get this is at about $900

i think i might go with the 2.0ghz + 1yr warranty

the other crap i can get off ebay or newegg for cheaper

+512ram

8cell battery

what ya'll think? go with this one or wait a little longer?

That's a tough call, these are great prices.

If Dell releases another $750 off $1499 with no restrictions (certain e-value codes) then that is worth waiting for. However none of us works for Dell marketing and our crystal ball is still in the shop.

so Ross do you think its a good time to buy now or wait? I dont see the current deals as really all that great. The $750 off is nice, but its gotta be at least $1800 so its still gonna be more than $1000 total.

i might go ahead and do it

i need it for business related stuff REALLY BAD in the next 2 months

i guess the difference is if i want to save around $100-$150 in the event of another $750 off deal

The next few weeks should be very good if you have a Dell Direct Store near you. If you would like to see if you do, follow this link: Dell Direct Store Locations. Right now, we're making ab big push for back-to-school and if you bring in a coupon code from a site like, ummmm, GottaDeal.com you can use it and stack it with the coupon codes we have at the kiosk.

For instance, right now, there's a coupon code at the kiosk for $100 off orders over $1500. So, with the coupon code from GD and the kiosk deal, you can get a $2000+ laptop for dirt cheap.

is there a dell kiosk catch though? doesnt make sense that i get an extra $100 off for going to the kiosk, if your right, ill go there tomorrow

Well, the DDS in my name on here stands for Dell Direct Store. I manage one.

The catch is you have actually have to talk to a human being. :dunno: Give it a shot. If they won't sell it to you with the $100 off coupon, pm me here and I'll take care of you. :)

well they're all salesmen. we were looking at one in a mall in los angeles, just to look at the size, weight and monitor, and the guy asked if he had any questions.

"no we're just checking the system out."

"are you interested in ordering?"

"yeah but we're probably going to wait until they next 750 off coupon comes out."

"oh then i'll just leave you guys alone."

i need to do that more.

well if you manage a store do you get nice employee discounts? The same kind that may be transferrable to non employees? "wink wink" Im just joking but I'm wondering if you do and how much.

The main reason why we get coupon codes that aren't available anywhere else is that way, we don't spend 45 minutes talking to someone about a system, then have them say, "okay, thanks" and then have them go order from home. That happens enough as it is, even with the extra savings you can get at the kiosk.

Every week, the kiosks will have the same or better prices than you'll find on the website. And since there are managers like myself, who do the leg work of getting coupon codes for the customers, there are folks who give a @#$% about the customers and their budgets. BTW, we don't work on commission either.

Actually we don't. They do have a program where they will take payments out of your check if you choose to do it that way, but no, we don't get a discount.

I have found the Dell kiosks useful for only 1 reason. To see the merchandise in person and play around with it before ordering online for a lower price. I cannot tell you how many times I saw people paying $1200+ for a low end laptop, it boggles my mind. Out of respect for the hard working DDS employees I never intervened although I was tempted to plenty of times.

Sometimes if I'm bored in the mall I'll ask the DDS sales people questions about tech specs, weight, how they compare against competing products, reviews, etc. Some of them really know their stuff, others seem like they were just trained last week at Dell University.

When I first saw an Inspiron 700m laptop I was blown away at it's sized but not that crazy about it's small keyboard. So I came home and ordered the i6000 for a great price ($750 LOADED), well that was too big. So I sold that for a $150 profit to someone I know. Then I ordered a 700m with 8 cell extended life battery and I love it. My only gripe is the small keyboard but I did want a small laptop, right? :rotflol:

Ross, you are absolutely correct about the small keyboard on the 700m. I use it as sparingly as possible at work and essentially just type the two passwords that I have to when opening the kiosk and then leave it alone.

Personally, I do not like the ultra-portable laptops. They drive me nuts. The screen is great, but damn, if I had to type something even as long as this post on that thing my fingers would be in knots. :)

I love my 6000 and right now, it's my work computer until I get my "official" Dell laptop, which should be sometime in the next couple of weeks. Then I get the pleasure of transferring all of my files. :ugh:

In regards to the DDS employees, you're right. There are quite a few right now that are brand new to computers and to sales in general. DDS is growing very quickly. When we opened 4 months ago, we were the 94th kiosk opened. By the end of the year we're supposed to be around 200. Meaning, that until people get face time with customers, they're still going to be a bit green. None of us have ever sold Dell before so we're all still learning. Plus, with the new models coming out right now, it's tough to keep things straight. ;)

If I were to do it again I'd get an i6000 (SXGA of course) again. I was very happy with it for the 3 weeks I owned it, before I sold it for $150 profit :)

For the price, no HP or Toshiba can touch the i6000.

I went UXGA for my screen. I like watching movies too much and when I actually decide that I have time to get back into web design and logo design, I'll want the extra graphics. Well, that and the 128mb vid card, which is always nice. ;)

Wow you went all out baller!

I got the i6000d (64MB video) and SXGA.

BTW I forgot to add :threadjac

Yeah, I like my toys and when you can stack coupons, why not? :)

Yeah, I was going to mention something about being a bit off topic, but I figured I'd leave that you the admins. :D

Hey as long as it's Hot Deals related (some how) then it's all good.

Besides Brad is sound asleep right now, so this is our chance to take over!

Ross, what do you think about the Inspiron 9300 @ $1399. I was thinking a basic upgrade to the 2 yr support (have to be on the safe side, even though it most likely will not be needed).

$1399 + $110 = $1,509 (- $600) = $909

It would be a low budget system, however the ram will be increased to 512MB. I need the large screen display, and the little assurance that I will be taken care of if I need support down the road. I have a strong feeling the 6-cell battery is going to die very fast on the larger bright screen. Suggestions/comments?

I have a month to make up the decision, buy or wait? I have a feeling the only other future deal will be one that offers a free printer, plus there might be a few extra things I can upgrade to once the price drops a tad.
