Tabatha_98 Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 I'm in the market for a PS3 and I was so excited for this until I read the fine print: - must be approved for card - Ps3 must be purchased at a Sony site at full price ( not including taxes and S&H) - Card credit will be posted to your PlayStation Card Statement within 8-12 weeks after PS3 Purchase.
poopoohead Posted December 16, 2008 Author Posted December 16, 2008 The fine print is fairly generic. point 1 is obvious point 2 hopefully you can get a line of credit for more than 400 dollars, 150 of that will be credited back to the card during the second billing cycle. Then simply pay off the card and close it. I've done this twice with similiar offers and it's always worked out. Of course you need to stop your urge of racking up everything in sight at the Sony store once you get approved. It was the lowest offer I had found anywhere. :)
PennyCarter Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Its a personal preference, but I'm not a huge fan of opening / closing credit cards. But I got a 80gb PS3 for my boyfriend for about $280 by going through live.com and getting 30% back on a buy it now purchase on ebay. I also got Metal Gear with it. I had to wait 60 days for my cash back, but it is now back in my paypal account so I'm really glad I did it.
hoover67 Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 I have done this offer through Amazon. It just so happened that we needed to get a Visa card. I ended up getting the PS3 for $249 with the Risistance 2 Collectors Edition and the full set of AV cables. Poopoohead is right!!! It is difficult to resist the urge to purchase more ps3 items!!!! Amazon also had the controller for $40.?? which I thought was really good.
sven_kirk Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I got my card but I am trying to go cheap as possible. I found the place I am going to get it from. They participate in live.com, but the ps3 does not come up in the search. The only thing it says is that it is that I will earn 2.5 - 8% cashback on qualifying purchases. Who can I ask and actually get an answer back other than an 'I don't know'? Is the whole store eligible? Or just specific items?
lincolndog Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I did this deal with sony. Applied for the card, purchased the console, paid the bill, cut up the card. Great deal!
poopoohead Posted December 17, 2008 Author Posted December 17, 2008 sven kirk - my understanding is that with live.com, it's just for specific items.
sven_kirk Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Thanks poopoohead. The retailer had the ps3 up there for sale then they disappeared completely, but later came back without the ps3 for sale.
ddube630 Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I just purchased my PS3 through the Sony website. Easy as pie and will cut up the credit card once it is paid off after the second billing cycle. Great deal.
carol-wa Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Thanks--I just did it. I've been wanting to get a blue-ray player for hubby and got this instead. Should I have ordered some type of cables to go with it?
poopoohead Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 carol-wa the PS3 is supposed to be the best Blu-ray player on the market, plus it has a web browser built in, so you can also surf the web on that HDTV!
Kaisei Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 If you seriously use this deal, you should do anything but cancel the credit card right after you buy/pay it off. Seriously, if you found it hard to apply for a $400 credit line because of your credit score, good luck even applying for anything else that uses your credit score after you open/close the credit card account within a one year period.
carol-wa Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Yep, thanks for pointing that out. The interest rate was pretty good and with no annual fee it's worth keeping for awhile.
DaveL Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 This is an ok deal but there are better ones. I bought my PS3 from WalMart with the Sony Card and I got $100 gift card from Walmart AND the $100 from the Sony Card.
sallnori Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 This is an ok deal but there are better ones. I bought my PS3 from WalMart with the Sony Card and I got $100 gift card from Walmart AND the $100 from the Sony Card. When was this sale?? recently?
sven_kirk Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 When was this sale?? recently? I remember seeing that sale, or something similar, a week before thanksgiving (online only). And I think there was another one also, a month or so before then. No real explanation why. If more retailers did stuff like this, PS3 sales would be booming. It's working for XBOX apparently.
DaveL Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 The sale I got mine was back in the beginning of the year, but they did just do it again around Thanksgiving I believe as Kirk stated. Found out about it here on Gottadeal....just check here often and you can find some awesome deals.
Guest randi89 Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 wow.. thank you : ) way cheaper than others
poopoohead Posted December 20, 2008 Author Posted December 20, 2008 you're welcome. hopefully there will be some similiar deals as we get closer to Christmas or new years day. but I guess we'll have to wait and see. this deal I believe expires on the 31st.
poopoohead Posted December 23, 2008 Author Posted December 23, 2008 anyone find a cheaper deal on a PS3? this deal expires Dec 31st!!
sven_kirk Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Hey poopoohead, you can use search.live.com/cashback to get a few buck back. There are Sony Authorized Online Dealers that will give cashback. I got mine through P.C. Richard and Son with %2.5 back. But, I heard that TigerDirect gives %5. I would have went with TigerDirect, but I found out too late and my order had already shipped.
