billandheather4 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I had planned on getting my son the Leapster2 since it is the newer one and smaller. Plus it looks sterdier. But now I see the Leapster for $25 wher the Leapster 2 is $69.99. He is four almost 5 and very rough on stuff. NAy input or advice? Do all the games go with either unit? Thanks! Heather
lorie Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 leapster 2 I believe you can conlnect to your computer and their additional games and features online. The orginal leapster is just the playing device.
jarerice Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 My DD has the older Leapster and she loves it. For 25.00 you can't beat it.
jswitzer77 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 We have had our Leapster since they first hit the shelves. It has gone through my two boys (and two nephews and friends when they visit)...so a LOT of play and not always gentle! It is still working fine! No problems at all with the screeen. So if durability is your only concern, save your money and get the $25 original version.
doublehsmom Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I agree with jswitzer77 I do daycare and my daycare kids play with it my ds 5 plays with it all the time my dd 3 plays with it all the time too and thats why im getting her one for christmas also..they aren't gentle with it at all and I have never had a problem with it at all..
kgm520 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I am looking for the original Leapster too... where are you seeing it for just $25? I did a search of the ads on GD and didn't see it.

singledad Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I was also looking at a Leapster or Leapster 2, are they better than the VSmile by VTech items? I thought the graphics on the VSmile products are too choppy (too pixelated), are they any better on the Leapsters? Right now I am figuring on the Leapster 2 because of the recharging addon that is available, but it's only $30 for the original Leapster at WM on BF... hmmm. decisions.
MidwestMama Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I know nothing of the Leapster 2 but we do have both a Leapster and a LMax. The Max hooks up to the tv and we have NEVER hooked it up to the tv. EVER. My boys are now 6 and 4 that use these they each got them when they were 3. (They have their own) There was a great deal on the LMAx so we got that last time but seriously no difference between the two. I am not saying anything bad about the Leapster2, just that I have the regular and it is awesome.
naturegirl Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 go for the cheaper one. I bought 2 leapster L-Max for both my kids, we have NEVER hooked it to tv, besides to hook it to TV you need the L-max games which are never on sale. My daughters Lmax has just stopped working. No abuse, very well taken care of. It just stopped working while she was playing. She thought the battery died so I put it for charging but the thing never came on. Go with the cheaper one. All the games are compatible. Its the portability that you want not hooking up to tv thing. So I will say go for the cheaper one. You will see me in Walmart running for one of the leapsters for my DD :) (she is miserable without it, have to get one as soon as possible).
kgm520 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Yes, I definitely saw the one for $30 at WalMart... I'm wanting to get 2 of them, one for each of my boys (4 and 5.5 years old), so $25 each would be even better!!

My boys share their games and we didn't buy any LMax games...
manomelissa Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 We love our Leapster, we have the original and have played games from LMax and Leapster 2 in it with no problem.
shopping mom Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 DD5 is getting the Lmax, we got it from Target on clearance and bought games (not all Lmax for $8.00 a piece at KB Toys thanks to posters on GottaDeal.) I plan to pick up two more games on BF to save for her birthday in March. I would say buy the less expensive one.
wx4svr Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 My kid is 2 months old... don't think I even know yet. LOL
meinnj Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 My kids have the l-max and v-smile pocket. The l-max is good(although regular leapster is just as good since we have never plugged it into the tv), but they spend much more time playing the v-smile pocket.
