So mad at Kmart

Recommended Posts

I scanned a few items with no price. Liked the price, and was going to purchase them. Some were for my kids, some for me to use with my kids. Hooked on Phonics system org 69.99 was scanning 10.00(I scanned it 3 times to triple check) Hooked on Spanish scanned 5.00. Got to th register, and it scanned for the original 69.99 and 19.99!!! Why were the scanners in the toy dept. different. She says the price is whatever the register says. Manager said Oh thanks for letting me know. WT#????

You have to really watch Kmart on clearance (at least around here), but I have never not have them give it to me for the correct price, I was told by an employee that they can tell if it is old or new merchandise by the number that the barcode starts with and if it is old they will give it to you for the clearance price regardless of what it rings up. I would have escorted the manager back there and made them watch me scan it...........

this it the reason I can not stand to shop there and the fact that they are dirty too...they had a whole rack of clothing on sale a few yrs ago so I got dd some outfits off there...ring up wrong and I tell her they are on sale and the price is such and such...she argues and we had to be someplace and so I told her to keep them and when she took them back to put on rack she will see that She was wrong

We have one Kmart and I LOVE it, it is clean and nobody else is ever there LOL. We do have VERY unhelpful people that work there but that is just a demographic thing. One Target I go to is almost STERILE it is so clean but the other is as bad if not WORSE than WALMART, FILTHY MESS.

So yep it definatly depends on where you live.

I would have taken her back there and made her watch me scan them. I would have then told her to call cooperate and see what they policy was. Most stores have to honor the shelf price even if it is wrong and I'd think that would be the same as the price checker.

Sad thing is they probally took them home themselves for the clearance prices after you left...

Sorry you had a bad experience. I wouldn't let it lie I'd call or email and find out the policy and make them honor it :)

DYK BTW I was at target once when a checker actually stood there and picked the red clearance tag off of something and told me "nope this is not supposed to be on clearance" no biggie because it was a shirt that my kids didn't really need anyway but it was still annoying LOL

That happened to me once as well. I scanned something back in the baby department, and it scanned higher at the register. It turned out there were 2 bar codes on the item...the original one on the package (that's the one I scanned) and then another sticker bar code on the top (that's the one that the cashier scanned.)

I brought it to her attention and she ended up scanning the other bar code and giving it to me for the lower price.

Our K-Mart is dirty as well. I only go there to find my good clearance deals.

There is only one Kmart left around here. It is dirty and dark (they have every other row of

lights on the ceiling off). I cannot imagine this one will be around much longer either. I very

very rarely shop there unless it is something I really need.

I wonder why Sears keeps them open? I cannot imagine they are making too much $$$

sorry this is a little long

we have one kmart around here last year at around Christmas time they had something on sale that I wanted, I think it was a blow up Christmas yard item. Anyway we went there and the place was dirty and the cashier, there was only one on and line was long, was slow and took forever. We went to leave, and mind u the only way to get out is by going through the cash, well the security guard actually blocked the door and was not letting anyone go without a receipt. the group in front of us had one person run to the car and bring it to the front well don't u know that was the person with the receipt. we go to go around the group and the guard actully blocked the door ... we informed him tat we are not with him, which was obvious if u saw the other people. he said he knew that he just saw us go through the cash. my husband said so whats the problem. he said he needed to check our receipt. Now something u need to understand is unless a store has a reason to check your receipt they can not legally ask u for it. Also by barring us from leaving it was unlawful imprisonment... my husband just knowing these things informed the guard of this, the guard was probably 18 maybe 21 on the outside. well my DS3, at the time, was having a fit and I just did not feel like dealing with it. I handed him the receipt and we went on our way. At the time I was like whatever I just want out but on the ride home I thought about it and I did not like how it went down. I went back at a later time and talked to the manager and he said it is kmart's policy to not allow anyone to leave without checking there receipt. Ever since then we have not been back... I don't need to feel like a criminal if I am not doing anything wrong.

This is not Kmarts policy. Costco, however, checks every receipt.

Kmart is matching many of sears policies now (I was able to exchange shoes without a receipt when I mentioned kidvantage) If something doesn't ring up correctly they give you $5 off or the item free whichever is less. It may not be posted but if you ask about it you may get it.

I had the issue at Sears where a shirt rung up wrong, they were going to refund the difference ($1.25) but I pointed to the price correction sign and got my $5 back

I called the customer service # on the web site, the agent took my complaint, then called the store manager while I was on the line. I retold my story to him again, he again told me it was impossible. I asked him to take the product back to the scanner and scan it himself, instead if calling me a lier (well in so many words.) He did, then said well in a way I was right, both products had 2 bar codes. He said well THIS time I could cme back to the store and get it for the price I scanned it for.

I had such a headach and it was about a 20 min drive I told him (although it was a 50.00 savings!) I did not want to cheat the store, I just very disappointed and I had to tell my children they could not have it while at the register. I told them they could a few min before in the toy dept. The customer service lady I called chimed back in and asked if it was resolved, I said it will be if the problem is taken care of. At this point I do not want to drive back and get it, I want the problem fixed so another child does not have to get something promised taken away.

  • 1 month later...

I ran in Kmart a few days ago because it's close to work, and I wanted to see what kind of shoes they had. I was looking for some inexpensive tennis shoes. I found a pair of plain white ones, with a price tag of $19.99. Their sale was BOGO 50% off, but I only needed the one pair, and didn't really have time to look around at other shoes.

When the cashier rang them up, they rang up for $24.99. WTH? The tag hanging on the shoe (the same one she scanned) clearly says $19.99. She tried changing the price, but it kept giving her an error. She just stood there and looked lost. Finally, I just told her to forget it, I didn't have the time to stand there, I needed to get back to work. So she did.

Same thing happened with a 6pk of Coke Zero. Tag on the shelf clearly marked $2.99, but it rang up $3.69 or $3.99. I had her take that off too.

Now I remember why I don't go there.

i can relate. I used to be a kmart shopper at Black Friday, but now its a waste to go their. Since Kmart and Sears are together, I have found problems with Sears too-especially online they rarely have it in stock and they could care less if your unhappy. We have Meijers and I like them a lot. I find our Walmart never has enough help.

Other than my husband that I met at K-mart when we worked there in high school I can't say that I have anything too good to say about that place. They never have stuff marked right, the stores are dirty, the employees lack any customer service skills and even the online store is the pits. If they even have a decent sale I will take their ad and do competitor pricing at another chain first.:yup:
