Wondering if the 199.99 desktop computer with the printer is a good deal. My soon to be 8 year old son is going to ask santa for a puter for xmas. Do u think this would be a good deal for that. It would be mainly for internet games, and kid stuff. I'm unsure of what this computer and printer would normally cost, so I havent decided just how good of a deal I am going to get. Let me know what you all think ! Thanks and happy shopping !!!

This may be a good computer to purchase if you plan to spend another $50-100 upgrading the memory on it. Windows Vista is a very memory heavy OS and 1g is probably the bare minimum recommended for running it. I understand that this is for a young child but you'll find that this machine will be teaching him more about patience than anything else if you keep it as-is.

I think this is a great computer for the kids, and for any general use you wish to use it for. I recently bought a laptop with 1GB Ram, a Celeron processor and Win Vista, and it works fine. I also put in there Office 2007 and an Antivirus and it works fine too. I agree that if you'd like to speed things up you'll have to upgrade the memory, but the kids won't really care if their new toy takes a while to warm up ;)

The one you need to upgrade is the little long skinny sticks called ram. SATA is the type of hard drive you have, and you only need to worry about it if it starts to fill. Being the computer user you are, I would recommend one of the following: Deciding you definitely will be getting this exact machine-finding its model number-looking up on the manufacturers website what type of ram it takes-look at ads and see if it is on sale-buy it when you buy computer and we will walk you through install, or think about this pc-pick up whatever you pick up-ask question again in the technology section of forums after you get it home and we will help you through the above steps and likely find a good deal on it, or lastly, buy pc-take it to geek squad etc, and have them put in the extra ram- pay price premium but have someone else worry about doing it right.

You cant lose your warranty by installing ram. If for some reason it makes the machine stop working, you just push two little buttons, out it comes and your computer (and anyone else) can never tell it was even in there.

Computers usually have some seals that if they're broken, the warranty won't be valid anymore.

Not anymore unless you are using an iMac and even then Apple will let you install RAM into an iMac. Most PC's dont have seals on them anymore becuase they know that the end user will do upgrades on the system.

i was searching for more info on this T3638 and i found another forum poster looking to see if he can upgrade the processor. turns out that this person asked the live emachines tech support for more info on the pc. it was reported that the motherboard in the computer is an ECS 945GCT-M3 which supports for an intel core 2 duo processor. this person wanted to put in an E2140 core 2 processor. this means it is possible to make this cheap computer into a beast.

2 slots for ram - im guessing 2gb max ram

2 x 240-pin DDR2 DIMM socket support up to 2 GB - from motherboard manufacturer site

QFTMFT...(see urban dictionary if you dont know what that is)

This is exactly right. HP, Compaq, Alienware, ACER, and Gateway I know for sure no longer put these "seals" on the vast majority of thier desktop and laptop comuters in the case opening area. The do sometimes place them on other areas, but not to open the case or add ram, etc.

this is a great deal i will be heading out to bb at 1 am do you guys thaink that is to late to be able to get a computer for 199$,,, i live in jacksonvile ,FL guys pls give me a good time to be there at i really want this computer !!

At 1am you'll probably be around number 250 in line. I've spent the last 4 years at Best Buy and each year I've gone earlier and yet I'm still further back in the line. This past year I was there at 5:30pm and was around 60th in line. My group got the last laptop and desktop doorbusters so we were lucky. This year we're going to drive past BB around 4:30/5:00 and if there are more than 50 people in line (which will probably be the case) then we're not going to bother. I simply refuse to miss Thanksgiving with my family so I'm not willing to arrive at noon.

I know it varies from location to location but IMO I think you need to be there around 2pm for the laptop and 3:30pm at the latest for the pc. Some here would probably advise you go even earlier. Hopefully this isn't bursting your bubble.

I live in Mexico and we're going to a BB in Laredo, Tx. We've been going there for the past two years and every year we had to get earlier than the past one. This year we're going to be there 2am on Thanksgiving day because last year we arrive at 9am and got like place 25 in line, so this year we're getting earlier to get the best deals. Down here, if you get 1am on Friday, you'll be over 250 in line.

I just found the same post you did, and I also have the same question as that guy did. Will the new CPU be detected by bios, and how will the preinstalled 32 bit Vista home premium react to it. I've actually never done a processor upgrade before, but this is looking interesting.

Now remember that there are a lot of different Intel motherboard models out there, so unlike AMD, you cant be sure without checking that your processor will work in your motherboard even w/ a bios update. Most intel motherboards out right now are Px35 or 975x motherboards for things like the core 2's. The 45nm cpu's (Q6850?) will fit in a x38 motherboard, while the next set of 45 nm cpu's from intel in 2008 (Q9770 for example) will need an x48 version motherboard.

well on the ecs site the latest bios update mini change log says support for E4500 cpu so im guessing that it should be detected by the bios. i haven't even heard of such a thing where you could swap out a processor. i always thought you could only swap for one in the same family. it does look interesting and theres always a first time for everything. if vista decides to not boot after the swap are there any type of vista cds in the box? like restore cds?
