elcopeland
Has anyone noticed the xbox 360 arcade console on sale this week at Target? Does anyone know the difference in this console and the core console. I am looking to buy one on BF - but if this is a deal, I will buy this one. Do you think anyone will have the core console cheaper on BF - or at least as a bundle? Thanks for your replies.
Brad
Consoles are rarely on sale below retail prices. Usually the best you can hope for is a free game or some kind of accessory free with purchase. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the arcade version comes with a 256MB memory unit as well as a bunch of free Xbox live arcade games. When you factor in tax, you might be better off just ordering it online from somewhere like Buy.com - use a $10 off coupon if you are a new customer and get it with free shipping and no tax. Premo
I believe it is the core console. Not really a good deal IMO. The one at FYE looks promising. I am just gonna hold out and hope for a bundle with the better console. The core is basic. Low memory, can only play 360 games. You end up having to add t oget it up to par. mamapenguin
You need a HDD. MU is good for taking your gamer tag to a friends house, but that's about it. The regular/premium 360 is a better bargain. Remember the wifi adapter unless you plan to use ethernet or not play on line. Another $99. I'll never understand why Microsoft didn't include that. Sony & Nintendo have it built in.
shopping mom
What is the difference between the Xbox 360 elite and the Xbox 360. If it is in the price range the Elite is always the better choice.

elcopeland
Well, let's shift from the original question about the XBOX Arcade ... We are thinking about the PS3 now b/c it has dropped $100 in price - and my son already has a great library of PS2 games, Blu Ray disks, and PSP games. Do all of these things work together? Can anyone give an opinion about the PS3 -vs- XBOX Elite? Thanks a bunch!
courtney88
I just ordered from buy.com the 360 elite 434.99 with 2 games included for Xmas. They have the holiday bundle. (used a $10. off coupon) no sales tax no shipping. I hope this helps. :)
Dlions720
I have both the xbox 360 elite and the 60gb PS3. I love them both but the Xbox 360 has many more good games than the PS3. But this is still the first year that the PS3 has been out and the Xbox 360 has been out 2 years. You can play online with the PS3 for free and it costs around $50 for a year of Xbox live. If I had to choose I would go with the PS3 because of blueray and ps2 playback. The games for the PS3 are coming and many come out this month. I hope this helps. racerfan
I am getting my DS the Xbox. I was going with PS3 because we have all the games from PS2 but when I spoke to someone at EB Games, they said go with the Xbox. The new models of PS3 ar not backwards compatible so it wil not play the PS2 games. I would have liked it for the Blu-ray, but I have to remember it is for my DS not the whole family :)
btvsfreak
I have a question hopefully someone can answer for me. We are planning on getting my little brother an Xbox 360 possibly the Elite for Christmas. Now, at this moment he has just the old original Xbox, (he did have the PS2 but then awful, horrible people broke into our house this summer and stole his PS2, over $500 in games and DVDs, and all of our iPods, and our portable DVD player) and a handful of Xbox games. I want to make sure that the Elite and even just the 20gb Xbox are backwards compatible, so does anyone know if they are indeed backwards compatible with the original Xbox games? Also, at Wal-Mart, the other day I saw these component video cables clearanced for $5, and made specifically for the 360 and i was wondering if these are necessary for the 360 to operate properly and at its best. I mean if we're spending almost $500 I want to make sure it's gonna be the best it can be. We are also planning on getting him a 20" HDTV as right now he has just an old 26" SDTV. The cables were the red, green, yellow and so on cables and then there was something that goes plugged into the back of the console itself. So does anyone know what I'm talking about, lol, and know if these are necessary or just something clueless people like myself buy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. mamapenguin
As long as you have the HDD any size, you can playmost XBOX games. There should be a list somewhere on xbox.com.
elcopeland
When I checked, the XBOX is not backwards compatible. I think this is crazy - just another way to make you spend more. I have no idea about the cables. I have bought several gaming systems and don't remember being this confused about how to plug and play. I think we are going with the 80 GB PS3 because it is backwards compatble - I just wish the price was lower - or at least a bundle of some sort. Anyone know where a holiday bundle on the 80 GB PS3 might be coming from?
afflictedmuse
The X-Box 360 is backwards compatible you just have to dowload patches online to play games, which does require the HDD. The patches are free though, so it doesn't cost you anything, just the minor inconvenience of downloading them.

btvsfreak
Thank you so much for your replies everyone, they are much appreciated. So, forgive me for asking a probably stupid question but what is this HDD exactly. I know it means hard disc drive but i just assumed it was something that was already a part of the 360 console. Apparently I am wrong about this, so can someone please explain this to me. Thank you!
afflictedmuse
The Arcade and Core systems do NOT include the HDD and it would have to be purchased seperate from the system for around $100. The Elite and Premium systems already include the HDD with it. The Elite has a 120 GB drive and the Premium I believe is 20GB.
btvsfreak
Thanks so much afflictedmuse! We were planning on getting him the Elite system so I guess that works out. Now though, he's saying maybe he just wants a plain old PS2 again, so who knows, but at least now I'm more informed. Thanks eveyone for your answers. afflictedmuse
PSP plays UMD movies not Blu Ray. It's all so confusing buying new consoles. That's why I own the Wii and DH owns the rest of that stuff. I only had to learn so much about the 360 because that was my first year buying him something electronic and the clerk at Game Stop was so nice. elcopeland
Well after seeing the new prices on the systems for BF I think we are going with the XBOX. the 60 GB PS3 is the only one that plays backwards. My son keeps rewriting his list and XBOX is at the top. I also learned that the only compatibility with PSP is for photos and music - not the UMD Movies. So I think he will just have the luxury of having 2 consoles. I have already purchased a few PS2 games - he'll play in his PS2. Now where can I find an elite system? Thanks Everyone!
