I have always counted, and given my kids, clothes as gifts. The clothes they get at Christmas are always more about fashion over function, anyway. Both of mine have to wear uniforms to school, so they love getting the *cool* stuff.

No, our kids are young (7 & almost 10) and it is our responsibility to provide them with clothing anyway, so I would never try to pass it off as a "gift". However, when they become teenagers and start wanting all the expensive name brands, then we probably will.

I don't give a lot of clothes - as I agree with the Aunt... but fun stuff (like cool socks) sometimes makes it into the gift pile.

Dont we provide them with everything. My 10 year old loves clothes and is at the stage where toys mean nothing as she soesnt play with them, If its bought and isnt needed at the moment then its wrapped and counted.

I give my kids clothes, and I do count them as gifts..I have found out more that my kids love to get the clothes with characters on them rather than just an outfit from old navy or gap but they don't mind right now I think that their main thinking on this is to just open then gifts they are only 4,2..

Yes I count them as gifts. In my opinion if it's not needed at the moment then it's a gift. Plus I usually buy them more stylish/expensive clothes for christmas then I do for the start of school.

I would count them as gifts, and definitely let them unwrap them. The older they get the more they actually want more clothes for Christmas even if they don't need them. Also, my DGD3 wants clothes already and as far back as I can remember she has ooohhhed and aaahhhed over clothes and how cute they are. Many times if I know a family doesn't have a lot of money for extras and I am getting gifts, whether Christmas or a birthday we've been invited to, I will say "I don't know about you but my kids have way too many toys, is there any kind of clothes they need?" People look at me as practical but a lot of parents appreciate it.

and a PP said something about us being responsible to provide clothes, true.. but Christmas isn't supposed to be all about fun... it's the true spirit and meaning and giving gifts to others, whether clothes toys or movies or whatever.... once we feel "obligated" to only get toys, wish lists, etc. it really puts a lot of unneeded stress on the givers. We should give because we WANT to and we should give things we WANT to give... otherwise it just isn't as much fun to fill up the floor under the tree.. IMO

If I pay $50 for a hooded sweatshirt..it is a gift. I will often throw the sock/undies/etc in a box with other articles of clothing. I have a hard time with basketball starting in January, so of course they need new shoes and shorts, warm ups, you name it. My home often looked like a sports clothing store with 2 highschool kids & 2 lil boys and their ball gear. I wrap those but don't really count them.

Heck yes, my kids clothes cost a small fortune so they are gifts. When they were younger I didnt get them clothes for christmas but they are teens and only want certain brands so yes they are presents. My dd loves to get clothes as gifts, she just doesnt want to open clothes when she talks me into opening one early (why cant I say no).

Since my kids are young I dont count clothes as a gift. I do have things that I have to get them just because its Christmas. I think when the kids are older then I will count the clothes as the gifts, they will actually appreciate getting them because they will be picking it all out. :holiday02

I usually get the 3 younger kids new pjs for Christmas and they open them on Christmas eve so they can wear them to bed that night. Its become a tradition carried on from when I was a kid. Other than that, I don't usually give clothes as gifts as I tend to shop for clothes year round on good sales. Like a pp said, a $50. hoodie is a gift. But everyday clothes from most stores I don't really do as gifts. Not yet anyway with my kids 10, 8, and 5. But in a few years I will probably be giving more clothes as gifts as they get older.

No kids, but I count clothes as gifts for my nephews and goddaughters.

I set a dollar limit for each child, but I try to spend most of it on things I know they will like.

I count them as gifts. My DD has always loved to open clothes. Something she didn't see before or something she wanted but may have been out of my price range. Now my DGD loves clothes too. In fact, I have an outfit for each of them included in this year's Christmas gifts.

My DS 16 and DD19 have asked for clothes this year. DS wants UnderArmour so it will be a gift and he wants a North Carolina NCAA basketball shirt and shorts so those will be a gift too.(If I can find them) DD wants clothes to and the outfits she showed me were on the average $40 a piece so they too are gifts. DD4 loves to get clothes to but I do try to make them special.

I don't give the kids clothes so much. They have 2 closets full each. But I did buy my 12 yr old Ohio State sleeper pants and matching slippers (put away).

My daughter has way too many clothes. She mainly gets toys from us. My mom though buys her socks and underwear.
