We live in a very rural area in Nebraska, and several of the providers did not have coverage here. I chose to go with NET10 because I like the carry over minutes and they have solid service here. My Daughter is 12 and I just ordered an MP3 touch player in metallic pink. I think for her it is the idea of having the "touch" screen. It cost $45, then we have a little $$ left to get her some other nice things. Just a thought

I did a "cooking box" for my Daughter. Got a kids cookbook, went to craft store and got an apron to put her name on, then bought measuring spoons, whisk, etc. It was fun to put together and she loved it!! She's 12 now and she still talks about that being one of her favorites )

Yup...I vote DS also, my DD has had hers for 2 years (she was 7 when she got it) she has a case and a large variety of games, and takes it EVERYWHERE!!! BTW: my DD and ALL her friends ADORE the Nintendogs, so if you see a deal grab one of those too.
