WE are considering buying a Mecury VIllager. We have a ford explorer that is just wearing out it is a 94 no complaints it has been reliable. I have had it for 11 years . WE are just wondering how good and reliable these vans are it is a 1995 with only 22,000 miles.

Thanks so Much!!!!!

i would be nervous with a car that is 11 years old and has only 22g thats

2g miles a year. that car sat for a very long time dry rot on tires and hoses and belts,

no heat building up in the egine to burn condensation.

You may want to look around a little more.

hope that helps

I don't know much about cars sitting around like the previous poster posted. I do know that I Loved my mercury villager. I had a 2000 that I got a really good deal on. Unfortunately, it met it's demise when someone pulled out in front of me back in Oct. If I could have found another one for a good price I would have had no hesitations about buying it.

We own a 1995 Nissan Quest which is a sister vehicle to the mercury Villager. This van is still going at 200,000 miles. My husband uses it for a work vehicle. If you do some research on it I believe the same engine was used on both vehicles. I hope this helps..

Rather then completely dismissing this vehicle, I'd recommend taking this '95 Villager to your mechanic for an evaluation. Have him/her check it out.

Also, run a CarFAX on it (from either www.carfax.com or at a discount through www.aaa.com).

It's quite possible that this was owned by a retiree or someone who lived super-close to work...

I just wanted to add that of the vans of that "era", the Quest/Villager was definitely the nicest looking.

The competition of '95 were all dogs: the Chevy Lumina van/Pontiac Trans Port/Olds Silhouette http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Sick/icon120.gif, Toyota Previa http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Sick/N1yukHL.gif, Mazda MPV http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/NO/shakehead01.gif, and the old body style Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge vans were very blah too. http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/NO/down.gif

If you can find a Honda Odyssey van, that was well regarded (though it'll probably be a little more money): http://www.edmunds.com/used/1995/honda/odyssey/minivanvan/compact/index.html

I believe 95 was a first model year for the Villager...same as Ford Windstar.

We owned a 96 Windstar for 9 years...was an OK van.

BUT, most recommend to never own a first model year of any vehicle...definitely have it checked out by an ASE mechanic.

Villager/Quest -- 1993 - 2002 -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Villager

"The joint venture for this vehicle was a marriage of convenience between Ford and Nissan. The Ford Aerostar minivan was aging and lagging in sales, and its replacement, the Windstar, was not yet ready for market. Ford had money to build an assembly plant, but lacked vehicle design engineering resources due to other vehicles. Nissan was lacking cash but could contribute vehicle engineering and an engine built at its Smyrna, Tennessee facility. The initial project was code named "VX54" within Ford."

Man, had to wait for this page to load and gotta get to work.

BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT. We have a '96. Replaced the engine at 182K by the dealership. And thats it. The Mercury brand is quality. The looks are sharp, and the mechanics and road handling are the best. I've got in a quest as well, but always always knew we made the best purchase.

I wouldn't be concerned about the low miles at all.

Tires, hoses and belts are maintenence items.

Condensation might be an issue but only with shortening the life of an exhaust system not engine life. Carbon build up might be a concern with the engine if it's seen nothing but city driving. But again, a few rips on the highway will go a long way to clearing that out.

As recommended, run the carfax. Confirm the miles are legit.

Just my 2 cents...

I recently purchased a "new" van after the transmission in my 96 Dodge Grand Caravan went out. I did ALOT of research on all the vans out now, I did mostly 99 and newer, but the Villager didnt seem to have very many reoccurring complaints. I didnt get one because the back seats are a bit close together, I have a growing teenage son and he needs lots of room. Have your mechanic take a look at it before purchasing. IF you run a carfax take it with a grain of salt. It has been all over the news here that Carfax isnt as reliable as they want people to think it is. Milege issues, title issues etc... Evidently they take most of their information from police reports instead of insurance companies. They have salvage titled alot of cars that had minimal damage and the insurance company only fixed instead of totalling them out. Google "complaints with 1995(or whatever year) Mercury Villager" and you will get all kinds of forums like this one where people are discussing their problems or whatever about a certain car. HTH. I ended up purchasing a 2001 Pontiac Montana that had been local to me with the first owner and only had 52944 miles on it. Got a great deal and a great van.
